Kim Jun-han thought of Park Dong-sik at home while looking at the sashimi in front of him. Park Dong-sik had been singing about wanting soju with sashimi for a while, and even made the absurd request to have some soju instead of vitamins after giving birth.

When he chuckled, Director Im sitting across from him stared thoughtfully. Director Im had been with the company since Kim Jun-han’s grandfather’s time, so he felt more like an uncle than an employee since he’d known him since childhood.

“Your face looks better since I last saw you.”

    “Does it?”

“There’s been talk among the executives about how you’ve been smiling more lately.”

“Was my smiling such a rare event?”

“You’re not really asking because you don’t know, are you?”

Though he wondered if it had been that obvious, he had no intention of denying it. Director Im also asked about Chairman Kim’s well-being. The executives were still talking a lot about Chairman Kim’s illness. Having spent so much time with him, they couldn’t help but be concerned about his absence.

“Do you believe the rumors too, Director?”

“Ha ha, I’ve known you for years. Why would I believe them? He just needs time, so don’t worry too much. But more than that, I’m curious about something else.”

    “Please ask.”

“What happened to your wife? No, should I say ex-wife? Rumors say he’s pregnant, is that true? You can tell me.”

The rumor about Lee Hee-soo’s pregnancy had already spread far and wide, and Director Im seemed more curious about whether the children were really Kim Jun-han’s. With talk circulating that it might be another alpha’s children, speculation was running rampant at the moment.

Just a few days ago, he had pressured Kim Tae-han’s lawyer’s side and received their resignation. The same went for other major law firms. It wouldn’t be easy for Kim Tae-han to find a lawyer willing to take his case domestically from now on.

However, Kim Tae-han had his own stubborn streak and wasn’t the type to give up easily once he’d made up his mind. It was only a matter of time before rumors spread, and people’s attention would focus on Lee Hee-soo and the children.

Kim Jun-han seriously regretted not shooting Kim Tae-han that day at the villa.

“They’re my children, no matter what anyone says.”

Just then, there was a knock and Secretary Choi entered with a greeting. Since he wouldn’t appear unexpectedly unless it was urgent, Kim Jun-han put down his chopsticks.

    “What is it?”

Secretary Choi came closer and whispered in his ear.

“Lee Hee-soo went into labor and was rushed to the hospital.”

    “Now?”

“Yes. We just received the call.”

Though the doctor had mentioned several times that the twins were likely to be premature, he hadn’t expected them to come right after passing 30 weeks. Without hesitation, Kim Jun-han apologized to Director Im.

“Director. I’m sorry. Something urgent came up and I need to go. Let’s finish our meal another time.”

“Don’t worry about this old man, hurry and go.”

Kim Jun-han bowed to him, grabbed his jacket, and quickly headed toward the parking lot. When he asked Secretary Choi, who had followed him, for the car keys, the secretary made a troubled face.

    “Let me drive.”

    “Give them to me.”

Secretary Choi reluctantly handed over the keys, and Kim Jun-han immediately got into the car. As soon as he started the engine, the car sped out of the parking lot at a frightening speed. Secretary Choi had to watch nervously as the tires screeched against the ground at every turn.

Emerging from underground to street level, Kim Jun-han immediately turned right and stopped at a traffic light. Even waiting for the signal felt unbearably long, causing him to repeatedly sigh. Though he usually despised both sighing repeatedly and shaking his leg, he was so anxious that he didn’t even realize he was doing both.

Feeling suffocated, he loosened his tie and threw it onto the passenger seat just as the light changed. He hurriedly took off, passing other cars while his mind raced with all sorts of thoughts.

Maybe he should have stopped Park Dong-sik from doing anything about revenge. Could the stress from that have taken its toll?

He also recalled what he’d once learned about the risks of premature birth. These thoughts eventually tangled like yarn, ultimately becoming impossible to process. Before he knew it, he’d arrived at the hospital, and as soon as he parked, he rushed inside.

Running straight to the obstetrics department, he found Kim Yoon-ah standing at the entrance.

    “CEO, you’re here.”

    “How is everything?”

“They’re in the room. Thankfully, Hee-soo and the babies are fine.”

Kim Jun-han tilted his head back with a sigh of relief. When he reached the hospital room with Kim Yoon-ah, he found the doctor standing there, who greeted him. Throughout hearing the full story, Kim Jun-han’s attention was entirely focused on Lee Hee-soo inside the room.

After finishing his conversation with the doctor and entering the room, he saw Lee Hee-soo’s pale face. He weakly smiled and waved saying “You’re here?” looking so fragile he thought he might break at any given moment.

“CEO, are you sick? Why are you sweating?”

“How are you feeling? Are you okay?”

“Did you run here? You must have been shocked. That’s why I said not to tell you.”

Kim Jun-han responded with a somewhat angry expression.

“How could they not tell me? I’m your husband.”

    “We’re divorced, so you’re my ex-husband…”

After hesitating at those words, Kim Jun-han revealed the truth.

“We’re still married. Since neither of us showed up after the one-month cooling-off period, the divorce was invalidated.”

Park Dong-sik wore a dumbfounded expression.

“I was supposed to appear in court too? You never told me.”

“How could I tell someone who ran away?”

    “Ah…”

Park Dong-sik was at a loss for words and tried to change the subject. He had actually felt a little hurt that there was no talk of reconciliation, but now realized, “We were just married all along.” Both amused and pleased, he looked at Kim Jun-han, who was staring at Park Dong-sik’s belly with a troubled expression on his face.

According to the doctor, if it was just the amniotic fluid leaking, they could try to hold out longer, but with contractions also progressing, surgery was needed today. The babies would be fine with intensive care in incubators. They were told not to worry too much.

Park Dong-sik read Kim Jun-han’s mind and quietly placed his hand on his belly.

“If you have anything to say to the twins, say it.”

    Kim Jun-han didn’t hesitate for a moment.

“Don’t give your Mother a hard time. You’ll be in trouble.”

    Park Dong-sik rolled his eyes.

“What kind of father says that?!”

“You’re the most important to me. The children come second.”

Kim Jun-han said these potentially cold-sounding words without blinking, and Park Dong-sik felt his anxiety rather than taking offense, so he held his hand tightly while smiling casually.

Soon after, a nurse came in and said they needed to move to the operating room. As they removed the attached monitors and moved him to a wheelchair, his heart pounded with tension and anticipation.

Just before parting at the operating room entrance, Park Dong-sik didn’t forget to remind Kim Jun-han,”Think of names for the babies by the time the surgery’s over. Otherwise, I’m naming them Seok-bong.”

He made this puzzling statement and kept smiling until the doors closed behind him. Kim Jun-han, who had been forcing himself to smile, immediately turned serious and stared intensely at the operating room doors.

After pacing for a while, he sat down and noticed Kim Yoon-ah sitting opposite him, looking just as anxious. The “Surgery Prep” sign changed to “In Surgery,” but contrary to the doctor’s assurance that it would be quick, there was no sound from inside.

Then footsteps came running from behind, and when Kim Jun-han turned around, his eyes turned fierce. Kim Tae-han, looking thinner than before, stopped right in front of them, breathing heavily. Judging by the beads of sweat on his forehead, he must have run quite a distance.

He looked at the sign next to the operating room and then at Kim Jun-han, asking first about Lee Hee-soo.

    “How’s Hee-soo?”

Kim Jun-han just glared silently, and Kim Tae-han smiled casually.

“I still have the right to be here. Don’t complain about me coming.”

At those words, Kim Jun-han jumped up and approached Kim Tae-han threateningly. As Kim Yoon-ah wondered if she should intervene, a faint baby’s cry was heard from inside the operating room.

All three turned their attention to the operating room, and another cry followed. Soon, the door opened, and one of the nurses rushed out. Before anyone could ask anything, she hurriedly ran somewhere and returned moments later with a small medical box.

It contained several blood packs, and Kim Jun-han, sensing something was wrong, instinctively tried to follow the nurse but stopped. He had clearly seen through the briefly opened door. Though partially hidden by a partition, he saw pools of blood on the floor.

Kim Tae-han also came closer and looked at the operating room with a serious expression on his face.

“What’s going on…Is it normal to lose that much blood?”

Kim Jun-han silently stared at the closed door before returning to his spot. His mind went blank, unable to think anymore.

Well past the doctor’s estimated time, another nurse rushed in with blood packs. He wanted to grab the nurse and check on Lee Hee-soo’s condition.

How much time had passed? The firmly closed door opened and the doctor came out first, with both Kim Jun-han and Kim Tae-han standing up simultaneously. As he lowered his mask, the doctor’s expression was dark. Kim Jun-han fought back a choking feeling as he asked, “What happened?”

“The twins are healthier than we were concerned about. They’ve been moved to intensive care, and visits—”

“Look, I’m asking about what happened to Hee-soo right now.”

The doctor showed signs of difficulty at his fierce tone. He had been treating them since early pregnancy and rarely showed surprise at anything. It was the first time his composure had disappeared, which made Kim Jun-han’s heart sink.

“He went into shock from severe bleeding. We performed arterial embolization and managed to stop the bleeding, so we’ve passed the critical point…but we’ll need to monitor him for several days.”
