The sound of “dong dong dong dong” echoed in the air, and it was as if Gou Fugui could hear his “Hammer Master” talent skill gaining experience points with every strike, showing “+1+1+1+1.”

Anyway, he felt that the more he struck the fish, the stronger and faster the strikes became. If there was accompaniment, he might even be able to drum out a cheerful song.

But soon, a big hand reached out to stop his hitting movements, even trying to grab the scruff of his neck.

Otter Fugui raised his eyebrows high. Although little otters don’t have eyebrows, it didn’t affect the rich expression of disdain and sarcasm on his small face—

    “Waaah, aaah, damn it!”

Pui! Last time you caught me, that was because I wasn’t prepared, but now, let’s see if you can touch a single slick strand of my fur!

Little otter Fugui hugged his frying pan and slipped away from under Xie Tianlang’s hand like a slippery fish, lifting his chin and looking at him with small black eyes like black grapes, proud and aloof.

    “Waaah!”

    What are you doing?!

Xie Tianlang, having grabbed nothing, had a regretful expression on his face. But it seemed like he was born with the “Top-level Skill of Reading People,” able to accurately judge the emotions and actions of the observed, even when the subject was not human.

“Yuan Yuan~ Don’t be so distant. It’s your dad!”

Then, Xie Tianlang received a mocking look from the little otter, who seemed to have had enough.

It turned out that the little otter had made the internationally recognized gesture of greeting with its paws—curling up a few of its fingers and leaving only the middle one raised.

    Xie Tianlang: “…”

Xie Tianlang burst out laughing: “Yuan Yuan! Such a cute little otter shouldn’t make such an uncivilized gesture!”

How interesting! After cursing, shopping underwater, and smashing fish with a frying pan, this little creature even dared to give him the finger.

With a cheerful mood, Xie Tianlang grabbed a knife, laughing as he raised his hand and plunged it into the head of the unconscious swordfish.

    One strike, instant death.

And just like that, a sea king met its end by the wicked schemes of humans and a backstab from the otter.

    “…Damn…”

The blow startled Fugui, who instinctively pulled his middle finger back. He reaffirmed that the creature before him was indeed a werewolf.

And a werewolf with a bizarre thought process at that.

In general, it was best not to clash head-on with this guy, or else you’d probably be stuck with him to the bitter end. Tch.

“Alright. Finally caught a fish bigger than a tuna.” Xie Tianlang said nonchalantly as he casually tied a wet towel around his bloodied left palm.

Then, his right hand reached for the massive, three-meter-long swordfish.

Fugui thought he was going to drag the swordfish away, so he floated on the water’s surface, watching his movements.

But to his surprise, this guy wasn’t going to do that. He suddenly lunged forward and scooped the whole otter up into his arms!

    “AAA?!”

“Alright, alright, stop squirming. You don’t want a free human-shaped seat? It even comes with built-in temperature control, so stop being picky.”

Xie Tianlang pressed down on the struggling Fugui, still holding onto the scruff of his neck, and asked a question that almost made the otter flip out:

“Yuan Yuan, have you turned into a spirit or something?”

Fugui’s eyes widened in an instant. The question about his real identity was so sudden and unbelievable that, although he quickly started playing dumb and shouting “Ahh ahh ahh,” the stiffness and shock in that moment couldn’t escape Xie Tianlang’s perception and sharp gaze.

    Xie Tianlang laughed.

“So, can you turn into a human? Like, into a beautiful woman with long hair, phoenix eyes, and a high nose bridge?”

Fu Gui: “…” Is that comparison too pointed?!

In the blink of an eye, Fugui’s broke into a sweat, and his mind raced. Finally, he sarcastically retorted:

“Turn into a human? Are you out of your mind?! Don’t compare me to those foolish humans! My smooth, glossy fur is the best! Why would I want to turn into a human with useless long hair?!”

“Ahh, let me go! Don’t wait for me to bring the otter army to drown you!!”

Between exposing the truth and pretending to be a spirit, Fu Gui, the beauty, struggled and chose the latter.

Xie Tianlang looked at the little otter who had finally stopped playing dumb, now ranting at him wildly. His sharp, wolf-like eyes studied the otter carefully for a long time before he finally nodded.

“Alright. Looks like you’re a lucky otter who can understand human speech.”

Fugui lifted his small head proudly. “So what if I understand human speech? The ocean is about to drown the land, and you humans still think you’re important?”

“Any otter with linguistic talent can understand your human speech!”

Xie Tianlang chuckled, placing Fugui on his shoulder. This time, it seemed like he was genuinely dragging the swordfish along.

“So, when I was unconscious by the sea, was it you who dragged me ashore?”

Fugui, who hadn’t relaxed at all, sneered inwardly. He knew this guy was still trying to dig a hole for him.

“I’m not a dolphin. I didn’t push you ashore. When I woke up, I was just floating by the sea. I wanted to drink some soda, but then I ran into you, this lingering ghost.”

    Sighhh! Such bad luck!

Xie Tianlang seemed unusually patient and cheerful when facing the little otter. As he dragged the fish, he said, “It’s fate. Yuan Yuan, stop struggling. You’re destined to be my otter.”

Fugui dramatically gagged a few times, then turned his little body around and fished out his shopping net, which had been pierced by the swordfish.

The situation inside the net was pitiful. Not only was there a huge tear in it, but his soda, milk, canned meat, and snacks had all been soaked in seawater.

Furious, the irritable otter screamed a few times, slamming his little paws on the flat stone pot floating next to him.

    “So unlucky!!”

Fugui’s little black grape like eyes glared at Xie Tianlang.

Xie Tianlang cleared his throat twice. He had indeed caused his little otter a misfortune this time. However, in the end, he had successfully dealt with the big fish, and Fugui had played a crucial role in it.

“Alright, don’t be mad. How about I help you fill the net again? I promise I’ll get more soda, baby milk powder, and canned meat.”

Fugui glared at him with his little eyes, darkly adding, “And chips, spicy strips, and chocolate. Not a single one can be missing.”

Xie Tianlang raised his hand and tapped his forehead, unable to hold back a smile.

“Where do you even learn about these things? You should eat less junk food, don’t you know seafood is much better for you?”

“I’ve eaten seafood my whole life! The supermarket is flooded with water, can’t I try something different?!”

Xie Tianlang finally laughed out loud, speechless. He dove into the water to retrieve snacks for his Yuan Yuan.

Fugui watched the man’s tall, lean body, which moved gracefully in and out of the water like a strong fish, diving and resurfacing repeatedly. For a moment, Fugui didn’t know what to say.

Maybe this guy, like him, is a soft spot for cute things? He just can’t resist adorable little creatures?

But in the end, Fu Gui still stopped Xie Tianlang from diving a third time.

“Alright, alright, no need to dive again. You’re slow and inefficient.”

“Just carry that big fish and let’s go. If we don’t leave now, we’ll have a bloodbath at the supermarket.”

Xie Tianlang had just placed two cans of baby powder in the net when hearing Fugui’s words, he glanced at his own bloodied left hand.

“Is Yuan Yuan concerned about me?”

Fugui rolled his eyes at him.

Xie Tianlang quickly reached out and ruffled Fugui’s little head. “This tiny injury isn’t even enough to get stuck in my teeth.”

Fugui looked at the towel, now stained red, and twitched his lips.

Your idea of a “small injury” and mine are definitely not the same.

Xie Tianlang finally finished refilling Fugui’s shopping net, then found a rope to tie the swordfish and began swimming toward the shore with it.

“Yuan Yuan, want to come back with me? Daddy will feed you grilled swordfish. It’ll smell so good!”

Fugui immediately rejected the offer, looking at the man with a look of disbelief. “You want an otter to go ashore with you? Did you hurt your head?”

“Stupid humans! Even your supermarkets belong to our ocean now. How far is it before the land becomes the sea?”

    Xie Tianlang: “…”

Damn. That actually makes sense, and he couldn’t refute it.

“Ahem, then I can catch fish for you to eat…”

Fugui disdainfully waved his little paw. “Get some self-awareness. In the end, who’s going to take care of who is still unclear.”

“Since we’ve been through two life-or-death situations together, if you end up drifting in the sea and can’t survive, this destined otter might consider keeping a human pet.”

    Xie Tianlang: “…Ahem!”

“Alright, stop wasting time. Time is life! I’m leaving first.”

“Don’t even think about taming me. You don’t have an ocean, and you’re not the sea king!”

Then, the omnipotent wolf-man watched as the proud little otter wiggled his little butt and swam quickly away, dragging the food-filled net behind him.

It took a while before Xie Tianlang let out a helpless laugh. “What a carefree wild otter.”

But maybe it’s for the best. An otter should be living freely and happily in the sea.

……That’s if if it really is just an otter.

After Fugui left, Xie Tianlang didn’t waste any time. Even though he always maintained his tough wolf persona in front of “his” Yuan Yuan, his injuries still needed some disinfection.

Catching a swordfish had indeed been quite a challenge, and it was about time to rest.

Not to mention, this swordfish was certainly bigger and more impressive than the tuna that Fugui had caught.

Xie Tianlang left in a good mood.

And as his figure disappeared from view, Fugui, who had already swum off, sneaked back in.

“That damn Xie Tianlang… always haunting me, making me run an extra lap.”

After confirming that no one was around, Fugui quickly shifted from his otter form back into a human.

He grabbed his small backpack from the storage locker with the quickest speed, quickly putting on some clothes before letting out a deep breath.

He had found a new fishing net at a local fishing gear shop outside the mall. He replaced the old net, which had a big hole in it, with the new one, and then draped two light, sun-protective clothes over the net. Finally, he carried the net and started heading back.

Along the way, Fugui saw many others who were out searching for food.

Most of these people traveled in small groups of two or three. When they saw the large bundle Fugui was carrying, they cast curious glances his way.

But right now, no one dared to try to snatch it.

Even so, Fugui quickened his pace. The city was being flooded by rising seawater, and peace was slowly disintegrating as the water surged, so it was best not to tempt human nature.

Thanks to his otter bloodline abilities, Fugui swam quickly. Even though he took a detour, he arrived at the sports arena’s safety zone almost right behind Xie Tianlang.

Originally, the large bundle Fugui was being stared at, but…

    How should we put this?

When Xie Tianlang appeared half-dragging, half-carrying the three-meter-long, 300-pound swordfish, no one could take their eyes off of it.

    “Damn!!”

“Mom, come out! A miracle happened!!”

The author has something to say:

Xie Tianlang: Yuan Yuan, follow me, I’ll raise you!

Fugui: Wake up, it’s not clear yet who’s gonna be raising who.
