by jj.ssasipscoffeeChapter 28: Are You Giving Up on Him?
Su Qing looked at Han Junzhou, the attending doctor and Yue Qi’s close friend. “Director Han, could you do me a favor?” Taking a deep breath, he decided to be upfront. “You might’ve already guessed who the Alpha I mentioned earlier is. That’s right—it’s Yue Qi. And I really appreciate you insisting he leave the consultation room earlier.”
“There’s no need to thank me. It’s my responsibility,” Han Junzhou replied. “Is the favor you’re asking about keeping this a secret? Don’t worry; I won’t disclose your private information.”
“No,” Su Qing shook his head. “I want you to explain my condition to him on my behalf.” He smiled weakly, his tone tinged with helplessness. “You’re both doctors. You’d be able to explain it more professionally, and he’d understand it better coming from you.”
Han Junzhou was surprised by Su Qing’s openness. “You’re planning to tell him? But you… and he…” Han hesitated, debating whether to voice his thoughts. Ultimately, he felt obligated to be honest. “You need to know this—finding someone who can stir your emotions is incredibly rare. Yue Qi might be the only Alpha you’ll ever meet who is compatible with you.”
“I know,” Su Qing replied softly, “but I’m not his only option. He doesn’t have to choose me. There are better, more passionate Omegas out there with higher compatibility. He has the right to choose.”
“Then, are you giving up on him?” Han Junzhou was even more taken aback. Yue Qi was an outstanding Alpha—so exceptional that even Han himself had once been captivated by him. He couldn’t comprehend why Su Qing would willingly let go of someone so rare, someone like Yue Qi—a person you might never find again if you missed your chance.
“No, I’m not giving up on him.” Su Qing’s eyes sparkled with determination, as if he’d made a decision in those few minutes. “I’m going to pursue him.” He smiled brightly. “Director Han, you’re right—if I miss this chance, I might never meet another Alpha like him. And besides, he’s such an amazing person. I don’t want to lose him. I… I really like him.” A hint of shyness crept into his tone as he touched his nose self-consciously.
“Director Han, I suppose I’m still a little selfish. Even after learning the truth about my condition, I still want to choose him. I still want a normal life. I still want to be with Yue Qi.” Su Qing’s voice grew firmer as he spoke, revealing his heartfelt desires. “You had Yue Qi leave the room earlier, didn’t you? It was to give me a chance to…”
“I want to know the full picture first before deciding whether or not to tell him. Similarly, I also hope Yue Qi can have the chance to understand everything before deciding if he wants to be with me.”
Su Qing took a deep breath, as if to gather his courage. “I’ve already decided to choose him, and I hope he’ll choose me too. Aside from my reserved nature, I think I have plenty of good qualities. If he’s not blind, he shouldn’t let me go.”
Han Junzhou chuckled at Su Qing’s playful tone. He found this Omega increasingly likable but still couldn’t hide his curiosity.
“Then why,” Han Junzhou asked, “don’t you tell him yourself?”
“Because I’m afraid he’ll mix unnecessary sympathy into his feelings for me. If I tell him directly, what choice would he have in front of me? He’s such a kind person—he’d prioritize my emotions over his own. If we started a relationship based on pity, it would eventually collapse once that sympathy ran out. And by then, we wouldn’t even be able to stay friends. If that’s the case, I’d rather not start anything and keep him as a friend instead.” Su Qing smiled faintly. “I’d really like to keep him as a friend. Besides, you’re his close friend. You’d know how to talk to him.”
“What exactly do you want me to say to him?” Han Junzhou was puzzled by this Omega’s train of thought. One moment, Su Qing wanted to give Yue Qi the freedom to choose; the next, he was asking Han to persuade Yue Qi. Was this some kind of strategy?
“Say whatever you think is right,” Su Qing replied with a small smile. “As a doctor, as his friend, follow your heart and give him the advice you believe is best. Don’t worry about me.”
“I already told you I’m selfish, and I fiercely protect those I care about. Honestly, if one of my friends were thinking of dating someone like me—someone with my condition—I’d tell them to break up immediately.” Su Qing said this with utter seriousness.
“Cough!” This time, Han Junzhou was truly startled by Su Qing’s bluntness.
Was he seriously suggesting that Yue Qi’s friend should encourage them to split up?
“Are you really, sincerely, hoping to be with him?” Han Junzhou asked with a wry smile. “Because it sounds like you’re trying to push him away.”
“No, I want to pursue him if he’s willing to give me a chance,” Su Qing said, lowering his head with a helpless smile. “I just don’t want him to make a rash decision and agree to something impulsively. I hope someone can help him think carefully about his choices for the future.”
“I know a relationship isn’t guaranteed to last forever, but when I look back on it someday, I want it to be genuine love—not a relationship clouded by pity or impulsive generosity.”
I don’t want it to be like my past, where I mistook family-like affection or friendship for love. I hurt others and compromised myself.
At that moment, Han Junzhou finally understood what Su Qing truly wanted: a pure, honest love—one free of pretenses and filled only with sincerity.
Everything about him, even his imperfections, needed to be brought to his attention.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll explain your situation with the mark to Yue Qi clearly and let him think carefully about his next steps. But,” Han Junzhou added, “I’m personally neutral in this. I’m not going to persuade him to leave you or anything like that. Breaking up a relationship invites bad karma.” Han grumbled softly.
Su Qing gave Han Junzhou a grateful smile.
“Director Han, I have another question. Is my irregular sleep pattern—being awake at night and sleepy during the day—related to this genetic condition?” Su Qing asked. “I always feel drowsy during the day but completely awake at night.”
“There are some studies overseas reporting that patients with restrained marks do exhibit reversed sleep patterns,” Han Junzhou explained.
“Is there no way to fix this sleep issue? I want to adjust to a normal schedule,” Su Qing said. “I want to match Yue Qi’s routine.”
If he wanted to pursue someone seriously, their daily schedules at least had to align.
After inquiring further about Su Qing’s daily routine, Han Junzhou offered his advice.
“You’re working far too many night hours. From 4 PM to 4 AM, a full 12-hour shift, plus the time spent preparing and cleaning up before and after work—you’re spending more than half your day working. That workload is excessive. After subtracting sleep, you don’t have time for personal leisure. How are you supposed to date anyone like this?” Han Junzhou thought, this schedule is just as grueling as Yue Qi’s.
Su Qing laughed shyly, a bit embarrassed. “That’s why I came to ask you for help. I really can’t sleep at night, so I end up keeping the shop open until 4 AM.”
“I suggest gradually shortening your work hours and closing earlier in the evening. Aim to go to bed earlier. You might need medication to help you relax and adjust initially. I’ll prescribe you something for that. As for feeling sleepy whenever it’s daylight, that’s something you’ll have to tackle with willpower. Try to plan activities you enjoy during the day. You’ll find it easier to stay awake if you’re doing something fun. But most importantly, make sure you get at least eight hours of sleep daily. Without adequate rest, you won’t be able to maintain this long-term.”
“It’s like asking a student to stay up late studying—they’ll complain it’s exhausting. But ask them to stay up singing karaoke or playing games? They’ll be excited until morning.”
“Understood. I’ll give it a try,” Su Qing replied.
With the prescription Han Junzhou gave him in hand, Su Qing prepared to leave the consultation room. However, he hesitated at the door, looking a bit uneasy.
“What is it? Just say it. You’ve already said so much earlier—what’s there to be embarrassed about now?” Han Junzhou teased, treating Su Qing like a friend.
It was precisely because he had spoken so much earlier that he now felt awkward.
“Well, about what I said earlier, the whole ‘I really like him’ part—please don’t tell him that. It’s kind of embarrassing.” Su Qing scratched his head, feeling flustered. “And maybe a little emotionally manipulative too.”
“I won’t reveal your hand,” [1]Han Junzhou said with a reassuring smile.

Footnotes:
- “I won’t reveal your hand,” : The phrase "I won’t reveal your hand" is an expression derived from card games, where "revealing one's hand" means showing the cards you are holding, thereby exposing your plans or intentions. In this context, when Han Junzhou says "I won’t reveal your hand," it means he won’t disclose or expose Su Qing’s feelings or intentions (in this case, about his affection for someone). Essentially, he is promising to keep Su Qing’s secret and not share it with anyone, particularly Yue Qi. ↑
