Chapter 17: Got Beaten Up

Huo Yuchuan didn’t buy medicine for He Congshan; he just sent a brief greeting and made fun of him a bit.

“Stop laughing,” He Congshan cursed viciously, “You virgin!”

Huo Yuchuan hung up the phone and doubled the bill he sent to him.

    He Congshan immediately blocked him.

When they first opened “Muse,” Huo Yuchuan had put in nearly half the money. As the business grew, so did the profits. He Congshan wanted to give Huo Yuchuan half ownership, but he declined, opting for cash instead. Thus, he became He Congshan’s biggest creditor.

Lin Miao only remembered as he was about to finish work that he hadn’t seen their Teacher Yu tonight.

He probably didn’t come every day, since he had to teach classes in the evenings sometimes.

The next day, during the break, Jiang Leming dragged He Yu into the classroom in a hurry and told Lin Miao and Zhou Zhuo, “Teacher Yu fainted in the next class!”

    The two were shocked. “What?!”

“Correction,” Jiang Leming said, “He almost fainted.”

Zhou Zhuo asked, “Low blood sugar?”

“No,” Jiang Leming replied, “I heard that when he came to class today, his face was red and he seemed like he could barely stand.”

Red face? Lin Miao guessed, “Is it a fever?”

“Yeah,” He Yu said, “The class monitor from next door helped him to the infirmary.”

“I heard he was burning up,” Jiang Leming said, “It scared the whole next class.”

He came to teach with a fever, so dedicated… Lin Miao suddenly thought of Huo Yuchuan, who often worked overtime. Could he one day faint in the office too? If everyone else had left, no one would know if he fainted.

He took out his phone and sent a message to Huo Yuchuan, “Don’t always work overtime, take care of yourself.”

    Huo Yuchuan: ?

Lin Miao: “If you fainted, would anyone notice?”

    Huo Yuchuan: “Wouldn’t you notice?”

Lin Miao: “I’m not at your company.”

    Huo Yuchuan: “Then call me.”

Lin Miao thought that even if he called and there was no answer, he couldn’t be sure if Huo Yuchuan had fainted or was just too busy to answer.

What should he do? He had a sudden idea, “Let my dad go check on you more often.”

    Huo Yuchuan: “……”

    Huo Yuchuan: “No need.”

Lin Miao: “Health is the foundation of the revolution [fist].”

Huo Yuchuan: “Is my health bad?”

Lin Miao thought of his firm muscles and silently turned off his phone.

After finishing his evening class, when Lin Miao got into the car at the school gate, he saw only Little Zheng there.

“Is Huo Yuchuan working overtime again?”

Usually, Huo Yuchuan would come along if he had time, and if they were hungry, he would take him out for a late-night snack. That’s how his eight extra pounds gradually accumulated.

    But Little Zheng said, “No.”

Lin Miao was puzzled. If he wasn’t working overtime, why didn’t he come? He felt a bit sour and swollen in his heart, “Then did he go to see Miss Zhao?”

He secretly went on a date, right?

    Little Zheng still said, “No.”

Lin Miao was curious, “Then why didn’t he come?”

Little Zheng said, “He got beaten up.”

“What?!” Lin Miao anxiously lunged forward to grab Little Zheng’s seat, “Who beat him up?!”

    Little Zheng: “His brother.”

Lin Miao: “Why did his brother beat him up?!”

    Little Zheng: “I don’t know.”

Lin Miao: “When did it happen?”

    Little Zheng: “This afternoon.”

Why didn’t he tell me?! Lin Miao took out his phone and called Huo Yuchuan.

As soon as the call connected, Lin Miao urgently asked, “You got beaten up?!”

    Huo Yuchuan: “Mm.”

    “Where were you hit?”

Huo Yuchuan paused for a moment and said, “The face.”

Lin Miao was shocked, “Did it swell up like Boss He’s, like a pig’s head?!”

    Huo Yuchuan: “……No.”

Lin Miao: “So how is it?”

Huo Yuchuan: “Come back and see for yourself.”

Lin Miao became even more anxious, clutching his school bag and urging Little Zheng for the first time to drive faster.

    “Huo Yuchuan!”

In the living room, Huo Yuchuan was leaning on the sofa reading documents. Before he even saw Lin Miao, he heard him shout and then run over with his school bag clanking, grabbing his face to inspect it.

Huo Yuchuan had a small cut on his lip, which was a bit red, but otherwise, he seemed fine.

“Is there any injury on your body?” Lin Miao grabbed his clothes to check, but Huo Yuchuan stopped him.

“I’m fine,” he said, “There’s nothing on my body.”

    Lin Miao was skeptical, “Really?”

    Huo Yuchuan: “Really.”

Lin Miao looked at the wound on his lip and said quietly, “Does it hurt?”

    Huo Yuchuan “Mm”ed.

Lin Miao took out a band-aid from his school bag, carefully tore it open, and stuck it on the side of his lip.

Because he was so close, Lin Miao was almost sitting on his lap, tightly pressed against him.

But Lin Miao himself didn’t seem to notice, indignantly asking, “Why did your brother hit you?”

Huo Yuchuan calmly said, “He scolded me.”

“Ah?!” Lin Miao was about to stand up when Huo Yuchuan hugged him, preventing him from falling and said calmly, “Don’t fall.”

Lin Miao was still indignant, “He scolded you and then hit you?!”

    Huo Yuchuan nodded.

“How could he do that?!” Lin Miao frowned and said angrily, “How rude!”

Huo Yuchuan looked at him and said, “Don’t you want to know what he scolded me for?”

“Scolding is never okay,” Lin Miao said firmly, “His mouth stinks.”

Huo Yuchuan suddenly buried his face in Lin Miao’s shoulder and laughed.

Lin Miao didn’t understand what he was laughing at, “You’re laughing after getting hit.”

Huo Yuchuan didn’t say anything, just kept his face buried in his shoulder.

Lin Miao was quiet for a moment, then patted his back and said seriously, “If you want to cry, just cry. A good friend won’t laugh at you.”

    Huo Yuchuan: “……”

Huo Yuchuan let him go and told him to go upstairs and take a shower.

Lin Miao confirmed again, “You don’t need to borrow my shoulder to cry?”

Huo Yuchuan: “Or I’ll deduct your money.”

Lin Miao clanked up the stairs.

He first called his dad and scolded, “How are you even a security guard if the boss got hit?”

His dad was puzzled, “Where was he hit?”

“The mouth,” Lin Miao said, “The corner of his lip is cut.”

“Oh, he was hit,” Lin Jianxing said, “But that young man was howling and crying, with a bruised face, almost carried out.”

    Lin Miao: “……”

“But he did scold Huo Yuchuan first,” Lin Miao insisted, “Huo Yuchuan would never hit someone without reason.”

Downstairs, Huo Yuchuan looked at the dozens of voice messages from his brother, didn’t listen to any of them, and just replied with one sentence, “Your mouth stinks.”

    Then he blocked him.
