Chapter 41: Who Said I Wanted to Kiss You?

Lin Miao wasn’t sure if animals needed to get married, but another question popped into his mind. “But they’re all male…”

Huoyuchuan asked, “Can’t males get married?”

“Not exactly,” Lin Miao thought for a moment and said, “Alright, if they like each other, then let them get married.”

Huoyuchuan’s gaze was fixed on his face, as if answering Lin Miao but also speaking to himself, “They will like each other.”

He asked himself again in his heart, Will they?

Lin Miao didn’t hear what he was thinking. It had been over a year, but now he suddenly understood why Huoyuchuan wanted to change the ending to the lion and the squirrel getting married.

“Who said I’d marry you…” Lin Miao grumbled, poking Huoyuchuan’s prominent nose. “You’re so shameless.”

Huoyuchuan, who was fast asleep, shifted, bringing his fingertips even closer to Lin Miao’s.

Huoyuchuan’s body temperature was still high, and his breath was hot. Lin Miao looked at him, remembering that night when he had cried and shouted at Huoyuchuan, saying how disgusting they were.

He pursed his lips and whispered, “I didn’t mean you…”

He had just been too angry and too disgusted to stop himself from lashing out at Huoyuchuan. Actually, he didn’t seem to mind Huoyuchuan’s closeness, and he didn’t feel disgusted when Huoyuchuan kissed him.

Maybe it was because they were familiar with each other, just like how Jiang Leming and the others would sometimes put their arms around him, and he didn’t find it annoying.

    What about kissing?

    If it were Jiang Leming…

Lin Miao couldn’t even imagine it. He would probably jump up immediately and kick Jiang Leming a hundred meters away.

So why was it okay with Huoyuchuan?

Suddenly, he remembered what someone had said in that online post: “Kiss until you can’t stop, and then you’ll know.”

Lin Miao stared at Huoyuchuan’s lips, his ears buzzing as if he were being hypnotized, slowly lowering his head and inching closer…

He could almost feel the scorching heat emanating from Huoyuchuan, seeping through the air and into every pore of his body…

Suddenly, a hand covered his mouth.

Huoyuchuan opened his eyes and looked directly into his.

    Lin Miao blinked slowly.

He heard Huoyuchuan say, “Although I really want to kiss you, a cold is contagious.”

Lin Miao’s eyes widened, and he made some muffled noises, trying to pull Huoyuchuan’s hand off his mouth.

But as soon as he grabbed Huoyuchuan’s hand, Huoyuchuan leaned in and kissed the tips of his fingers.

They were so close that their breaths mingled on the back of his hand, their lips separated only by a palm.

Lin Miao’s face instantly felt like it was on fire, red and burning.

He quickly pulled back, blushing furiously and saying, “Who said I wanted to kiss you?! How could you pretend to be asleep when you were awake?!”

“No,” Huoyuchuan withdrew his hand and said calmly, “I was woken up by your poking.”

Lin Miao was angry. “If you were awake, why didn’t you open your eyes?!”

Huoyuchuan replied, “My eyes were tired, and I didn’t want to open them.”

Lin Miao exclaimed, “Did your fever affect your eyes?!”

    Huoyuchuan nodded.

    Lin Miao: “……”

Lin Miao grumbled as he went downstairs, “Burn yourself into cataracts!”

That night, Lin Miao slept in the guest room. In the middle of the night, he secretly checked on Huoyuchuan several times, finding his forehead still hot and changing the cooling patches twice.

Lin Miao’s sleep was fitful, and he dreamed that Huoyuchuan had become an idiot, dancing in He Congshan’s shop with an IV drip attached, and after dancing, he pulled out the IV and drank it.

Lin Miao woke up in a fright.

The window was bright, and it was already morning.

Lin Miao quickly got out of bed and ran to check on Huoyuchuan.

Thankfully, Huoyuchuan was lying quietly in bed, eyes closed, not dancing anywhere.

Lin Miao let out a sigh of relief—as long as he didn’t become an idiot.

When he went downstairs, Aunt Chen had already prepared breakfast, and the kitchen smelled delicious.

Lin Miao was suddenly very hungry and ate heartily, leaving some porridge for Huoyuchuan.

So, when the patient, Huoyuchuan, woke up, he was forced to drink a large bowl of porridge, which felt more exhausting than working two extra days.

He leaned against the headboard, forcing himself to focus on some urgent messages.

Before long, a phone call came in.

Huoyuchuan glanced at the screen and saw it was his mother.

He didn’t answer immediately, letting the phone ring several times before picking it up.

Lv Hanxiu, noticing his nasal tone, asked, “What’s wrong with your voice?”

“Nothing,” Huoyuchuan replied indifferently, “Just a cold.”

Lv Hanxiu asked, “Have you taken medicine?”

    Huoyuchuan said, “Yes.”

Lv Hanxiu didn’t say anything further but asked, “Your father’s birthday is next month. Have you thought about what to give him?”

    Huoyuchuan: “No.”

“You should care more,” Lv Hanxiu said, “If you make your father happy, he’ll value you more.”

She began to recount her hardships again, “Mom went through so much to bring you back to the Huo family. Back then…”

“Did I want to go back?” Huoyuchuan calmly interrupted, “Why I went back to that family, don’t you know best?”

Lv Hanxiu was taken aback, as if recalling something, “I……”

She wanted to argue but couldn’t find a reason, and finally said indignantly, “If you hadn’t returned to the Huo family, where would your good life come from? Wasn’t it all for you?”

“Was it for me?” Huoyuchuan said, “Then why didn’t you ask my opinion?”

“You were still young back then. What did you know? I had to consider everything for you,” Lv Hanxiu remained as assertive as ever, repeating the words she had said for years, “I’m your mother. Would I ever harm you?”

Huoyuchuan didn’t respond and hung up the phone.

His head felt dizzy again, and the fever that had slightly subsided seemed to be rising again, making him feel drowsy and disoriented.

Before long, Lin Miao ran upstairs.

He didn’t say anything, just walked over, tore off the cooling patch on Huoyuchuan’s forehead, and checked his temperature with the back of his hand.

Then he ran downstairs, got the medicine, and brought a cup of water upstairs, holding it out to him without saying a word.

Huoyuchuan looked at him and said, “Your mouth glued shut?”

Lin Miao “huffed” and grumbled, “I’m not talking to you.”

“Why not?” Huoyuchuan swallowed the pill, “I finished the porridge. Why are you still angry?”

Because you haven’t broken the fever yet. What if you really become an idiot and go dancing at Boss He’s place?

But he didn’t want to mention the dream, so he said, “Can’t I be angry? We still haven’t settled the score for bribing Jiang Leming.”

Huoyuchuan asked, “What should I do then?”

Lin Miao wasn’t sure, but he grumbled, “Jiang Leming said he’d call me ‘daddy’ for a month.”

“I could call you something else,” Huoyuchuan said hoarsely, “For a lifetime, if you want.”

Something else? Lin Miao was curious. “What would you call me?”

Huoyuchuan looked at him and softly said, “Baby.”

    Lin Miao: “……”
