Chapter Index

Chi Qingning subconsciously glanced at his manager.

The agent refreshed his email inbox and, sure enough, found a new email.

As he downloaded the email, he listened carefully to the conversation between the two brothers. He belatedly remembered that the producer, Wang, had mentioned earlier that “a new character was added under the Chi Qingzhou’s recommendation.”

    The agent immediately became nervous.

Chi Qingzhou had conflicts with his artist, so was this new character a villain?!

The agent hurriedly flipped through the script and quickly realized that the new character was not a villain, but the role was a bit peculiar.

Unlike Daoist You Ling, who is the heart of the story, this new character, the little Daoist You Fang, seemed more like a passerby in a supernatural horror movie.

He had not received formal teachings, but because he was adopted at a young age in a family with a background in cultivation, he knew some basic Daoist practices.

He could use the little bit of knowledge he had, but couldn’t explain it well.

Later, he was dragged into the eerie Lingxi village, where he had to rely on his half-baked Daoist skills to survive.

Unlike the somewhat reckless main characters, the little Daoist You Fang preferred not to take risks and was determined not to violate any horror movie taboos.

However, when Daoist You Ling wasn’t present, he was the main force in dealing with the strange occurrences in the village.

After experiencing a series of terrifying events, the once curious little Daoist grew up, understanding that simplicity was a blessing.

He returned to an ordinary life and no longer sought to use his Daoist skills for anything.

But after meeting Daoist You Ling, he knew well that peace would not last long.

Overall, it wasn’t a spectacular character, but the role had plenty of screen time, and the ending vaguely suggested a potential connection to a sequel, which piqued the agent’s interest.

He couldn’t help but give Chi Qingning a look: “It’s okay, your brother is such a good person, he didn’t put you in a tough spot!”

    Chi Qingning: “…”

He opened his mouth, his face turning red, wanting to say something but not knowing how.

This character… was a little too on the nose!

It was practically a reflection of his own life!!

Chi Qingning was reluctant to take the role, but the manager, giving him a significant look, made him hold back his rejection.

On the other end of the phone, Chi Qingzhou chuckled and said, “I think this character suits you very well. You’ll definitely do a great job, won’t you?”

Chi Qingning’s desire to refuse the role was like a tiny flame, instantly extinguished by Chi Qingzhou’s words.

He cautiously replied, “Second Brother, I’ll definitely do my best.”

Chi Qingzhou smiled and said, “Then I’m looking forward to seeing your wonderful performance.”

Chi Qingning responded with a few “mm-hmm”s.

He didn’t dare to ask how the script had changed or when Chi Qingzhou planned to start shooting. He had already made up his mind to be the most diligent one in the crew.

He had thought about this before, but this time it was different.

This time, his diligence wasn’t for fame, but to survive under Chi Qingzhou’s shadow.

Chi Qingning hung up the phone and looked at the script with a complex expression.

The computer screen displayed a scene where the little Daoist You Fang, after being terrified, met You Ling, who didn’t comfort him but instead smiled and said, “Good deeds will be rewarded. Be a good person.”

    Chi Qingning: “…”

He remembered how Second Brother had tried to persuade them to go to the temple to pray in the hospital.

He closed his eyes, suppressing the urge to sigh, and carefully read through the script.

His assistant entered the lounge, holding fruit and drinks. Upon seeing Chi Qingning’s slightly downcast mood, his expression darkened.

On the same day that Chi Qingning received his new script, Guan Xihua also received the script for Chi Qingzhou’s character.

Daoist You Ling was undoubtedly the heart of “Wanxiang.” Although he didn’t appear in the first half of the movie, his influence was felt throughout.

He was like the father character in some anime, always being searched for, and the entire group went to Lingxi village to find him.

The male protagonist, played by Song Yuzhi, couldn’t stop talking about Daoist You Ling, constantly saying, “If Daoist You Ling were here, he would do this and that.”

Chi Qingzhou flipped through the script and discovered that the male protagonist and Daoist You Ling had never actually met.

Their only connection was that the male protagonist had once found a note written by You Ling and learned some minor Daoist skills from it.

Later, strange events occurred in Lingxi village, but the male protagonist didn’t think about escaping or fearing for his life. The only thought in his mind was—

“Would Daoist You Ling think I’m not worthy to be his disciple?”

    Chi Qingzhou: “…”

Why did he feel like this male protagonist’s actions seemed a little familiar?

Guan Xihua couldn’t help but click his tongue and shook his head, saying, “This Daoist You Ling is actually the real male lead of ‘Wanxiang,’ right?”

Looking at the character setup, this role not only had a handsome appearance and an otherworldly aura but also retained his original passion and kindness after enduring hardship.

He was basically a character who embodied beauty, strength, tragedy, and true goodness all in one.

Guan Xihua said, “Such a perfect character is indeed not suited to be the protagonist. But if played well, he could become everyone’s white moonlight.”

Chi Qingzhou paused for a moment while holding the script and gave Guan Xihua a disapproving look.

Guan Xihua, puzzled, looked back at him.

A light laugh echoed in Chi Qingzhou’s shadow.

Chi Qingzhou was about to speak, but the words were cut off. He casually agreed a few times and then intended to suggest that Guan Xihua go do something else.

Xing Shuangzhan lazily spoke in his shadow.

“Qingzhou, don’t rush. Do what you need to do first. I’m awake now, and I won’t be sleeping again.”

Chi Qingzhou tilted his head and thought for a moment, suppressing his slight urgency. While flipping through the script, he asked Guan Xihua, “Has the crew of ‘Wanxiang‘ mentioned when they’ll start filming, or when we’ll need to join the set?”

Guan Xihua pulled out his notebook and glanced at it. “It’s still a bit early to join the set, but Director Fang said that in order to capture the feeling he wants, all the actors will need to undergo a two-month training period before filming begins.”

The training will include, but is not limited to, studying Daoist and Buddhist classics, strengthening posture, and so on.

“The list of who needs to train hasn’t been released yet.” He closed his notebook and reminded Chi Qingzhou, “For now, you can focus on your acting classes. Once the list comes out, I’ll let you know.”

    Chi Qingzhou agreed.

Guan Xihua then went over the schedule for the acting classes. Once all the details were sorted out, it was almost time to get off work.

Chi Qingzhou packed his things, stood up, and casually said, “By the way, Brother Guan, the other two senior brothers came to see me a couple of days ago.”

    The two senior brothers?

Oh, he meant the other two artists under him.

Guan Xihua, a bit puzzled, asked, “What did they come to see you for?”

Chi Qingzhou replied, “They want to learn Muay Thai from Du Huan.”

    Guan Xihua: “???”

Guan Xihua: “What? They want to learn what?”

    Chi Qingzhou: “Muay Thai.”

    Guan Xihua: “…”

He pressed his chest, feeling quite distressed, and took a long time to recover.

Chi Qingzhou, seeing how uncomfortable he looked, reached for his phone, intending to call 120 (emergency services).

Guan Xihua froze for a moment, then quickly realized what was happening. He hurriedly tried to grab Chi Qingzhou’s phone.

While reaching for it, he pitifully cried, “Oh my god, please don’t call an ambulance, or I’ll be so embarrassed!”

Chi Qingzhou dodged his hand, clearly disapproving of his behavior.

He looked like he was asking him, “How can you have so many problems?”

Guan Xihua could only give up on investigating why the two artists were following Chi Qingzhou’s bad example.

However, driven by his final stubbornness as a manager, he decided to speak to the other two artists before the end of the day.

Can Chi Qingzhou’s career path really be followed like that?

Guan Xihua still couldn’t understand how Chi Qingzhou gained so many fans!

Look at other companies—those artists who tried to copy Chi Qingzhou’s heroic and mysterious route are either nowhere to be found or getting ridiculed by passersby and other fanbases!

Each of them failed to gain the desired attention and instead attracted controversy.

Worried that the two artists would really go down the wrong path, Guan Xihua had no intention of continuing the conversation with Chi Qingzhou. After a few more words, he hurriedly left the office.

Chi Qingzhou watched him close the door, smiling and turning around to lean into the sudden embrace from behind.

Curious, he pressed his hand against the muscles of the person holding him.

“Su Ge, you actually have body temperature.”

    And it’s surprisingly warm.

“It’s like you’re alive, with a heartbeat too, so amazing.”

Xing Shuangzhan smirked slightly and said, “What do you mean ‘like I’m alive’? I am alive now.”

Chi Qingzhou tilted his head in his arms, resting it lightly against his body, his eyes full of delight and curiosity.

“You don’t look the same as when I brought you back.”

It hadn’t been long, but Chi Qingzhou still vividly remembered how Xing Shuangzhan had looked lying in the coffin: long hair, wearing a complicated robe, giving off the air of ancient nobility.

Now, however, Xing Shuangzhan was dressed in a tailored suit, his short hair slicked back, revealing a full forehead—he looked like a successful person at first glance.

    It was strange.

Xing Shuangzhan casually remarked, “If I wore that outfit and went out, I’d probably be mistaken for one of your peers.”

Chi Qingzhou responded with an “oh” and pressed on Xing Shuangzhan’s abs.

    Eight-pack, and they’re warm.

    “Quite solid.”

He said this as he casually patted Xing Shuangzhan’s stomach.

The next moment, he felt the muscles beneath his palm tense up suddenly, and the hand around his waist tightened in an instant.

Uh-oh, he had forgotten that Xing Shuangzhan had already merged with his body, and his ghostly aura wouldn’t spill over anymore!

Chi Qingzhou fell silent for a second, slowly raising his hand, casually distancing himself from Xing Shuangzhan.

A chuckle escaped Xing Shuangzhan’s throat, and he quickly grabbed Chi Qingzhou’s hand, pressing it back down.

He lowered his head, leaned close to Chi Qingzhou’s ear, and gently bit it.

    “Now you’re scared? Too late.”

Chi Qingzhou’s gaze wandered, but he didn’t answer.

Xing Shuangzhan effortlessly lifted him up, placing him on the desk in the break room, staring down at him with an exceptionally pleased expression.

“I’ve indulged you for over a year, and now it’s time for this.”

Chi Qingzhou’s ears instinctively heated up.

He subconsciously leaned back, trying to avoid Xing Shuangzhan’s overly intense breath.

    But Xing Shuangzhan moved faster.

Seizing the opportunity, he bent down, one hand tightening around Chi Qingzhou’s waist, the other supporting the edge of the desk, guiding Chi Qingzhou to arch his waist and abdomen into a beautiful curve.

    Then, he pressed in.

A soft laugh sounded by his ear, and Chi Qingzhou’s breath hitched.

A passionate kiss landed on his lips, making him unable to do anything but widen his eyes.
