Chapter Index

At 6:30 in the morning, the alarm on Chi Qingning’s phone rang.

Half-awake, he reached out from under the blanket, groping around for a while until he finally found the ringing phone.

He barely managed to turn off the alarm, yawned, and couldn’t help but rub his temples.

    His head ached…

Chi Qingning felt dizzy and heavy-headed, as though he had been hungover all night and still hadn’t recovered.

    Did I drink last night…?

He was a bit confused and thought for a moment, but his memory of last night wasn’t very clear, and after a while, he couldn’t piece anything together.

    The alarm rang again.

Chi Qingning, a bit irritated, turned off the alarm. His gaze scanned the note on his phone and remembered that he had an appointment to rush to today. The idea of going back to sleep faded away.

He pressed his temples a few times, got up, and went to freshen up.

After getting ready, Chi Qingning walked out of his bedroom, just as he bumped into his eldest brother, Chi Xiaoyuan, who had just gotten up.

Chi Qingning quickly greeted, “Big brother.”

Chi Xiao Yuan glanced at him and answered indifferently.

Chi Qingning quietly observed him, noticing that his face was pale, and he didn’t look too good. He probably didn’t sleep well last night either.

After hesitating for a moment, Chi Qingning softly asked, “Big brother, did you drink too much last night?”

“Too?” Chi Xiaoyuan paused in his steps, studying Chi Qingning’s face, and his expression softened slightly. “Maybe.”

Chi Qingning responded with an “Oh.” “Then, big brother, don’t forget to drink some hangover soup later.”

    Chi Xiaoyuan nodded in acknowledgment.

Chi Qingning felt a little relieved.

It seemed that everyone did indeed drink too much last night.

Probably because Chi Qingzhou was so terrifying, everyone wanted to drink to boost their courage.

The two brothers walked downstairs together, where Chi Jianming was already seated at the dining table.

His face didn’t look good either. His eyes were bloodshot, and his lips had a slight purple hue, making him appear as though he had heart problems at first glance.

Aunt Yu, wearing a blue and white checkered apron, was standing beside Chi Jianming, talking to him about the household matters.

“Sir, would you like some hangover soup? Or perhaps some hot milk?”

“Last night, Xiao Ping and I were cleaning the storage room and noticed that a few bottles of champagne and red wine were missing. Oh, champagne is missing four bottles, and red wine seems to be missing seven, but we only found three empty bottles…?”

She looked around and glanced at the Chi family members questioningly.

Chi Jianming frowned. “Did we drink that much?”

When Aunt Yu nodded, he couldn’t help but press his temples.

Although he had no recollection of drinking last night, the housekeeper had said that alcohol was missing from the storage room, so it must have been them who drank it.

Could it have been that little brat, Chi Qingzhou, forcing them?

He completely forgot about the time when he had taken a few bottles of fine wine from home to mend relations with his colleagues. Now, feeling both annoyed and headachy, Chi Jianming waved his hand dismissively, signaling that Aunt Yu didn’t need to concern herself with it.

Aunt Yu sighed in relief, her face instantly brightening with a sincere smile.

“Then I’ll go make hangover soup for the gentlemen.”

Chi Jianming replied, “Hmm, thank you, Aunt Yu.”

Aunt Yu quickly reassured him it wasn’t a trouble, and with a brisk step, she headed back to the kitchen.

Chi Qingning and Chi Xiaoyuan, having gotten the answer to what happened last night, didn’t dwell further on the matter. They sat down at the table, waiting for the hangover soup.

Before long, Fu Wenan also came out of the guest room. He greeted the Chi family and sat down at the table, waiting for the hangover soup.

Chi Qingning chatted with him gently for a few sentences, took a few bites of breakfast, and hurried off to catch his appointment.

Fu Wenan left the villa with him, hesitated for a long while, but still didn’t offer to send him.

    This was unusual.

Fu Wenan was quite the embodiment of the stereotypical wealthy heir.

This stereotype referred to the fact that the Fu family and the Chi family had an engagement. Whether Madam Fu preferred Chi Qingning or Chi Qingzhou as the fiancé, Fu Wenan still had a fiancée. Despite this, short-term lovers still came and went from his side.

He had never hidden his promiscuous ways, and whether in the high-society circle or outside of it, more or less, people knew what kind of person he was.

However, his mindset was different from the stereotype.

He had many lovers, not because he looked down on Chi Qingning, and certainly not because he didn’t love him. He was simply influenced by his parents, who believed in open marriages.

In other words, Fu Wenan knew very well that Chi Qingning had fished for several men, but he never minded. Not because he has a cuckold kink, nor because he didn’t love Chi Qingning, but simply because he didn’t think it would affect their relationship.

Just as he had many lovers coming and going around him, and he only loved Chi Qingning, Chi Qingning had many men coming and going around him, and Fu Wenan never paid any attention to them.

These men are merely temporary distractions in Chi Qinging’s life; he is the true love of Chi Qingning.

If one day Chi Qingning had to make a choice, he would inevitably choose him.

Fu Wenan had this confidence and courage.

However, the fact that he dared to let Chi Qingning go and hang out with other men did not mean that he would not show his presence in front of Chi Qingning.

Just as he would not allow any lover to surpass Chi Qingning, he would not allow anyone to surpass him in Chi Qingning’s heart.

To achieve this, he often contacted the Chi family to maintain their relationship, and would occasionally show affection to Chi Qingning.

For instance, picking Chi Qingning up and dropping him off at work was something he always did, unless something major stopped him; otherwise, he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to show his thoughtfulness.

    Today was different.

Although there was nothing important at the company, Fu Wenan actually took the initiative to give up such a good opportunity to show his consideration.

Chi Qingning didn’t think much of it.

He thought Fu Wenan had something to do and gave him a sweet kiss on the cheek before leaving the villa.

    Fu Wenan’s heart melted.

For a moment, he was really a little shaken, thinking of sending Chi Qingning to work first before going back to find the master at home.

But soon, he suppressed the impulse, carefully adjusted Chi Qingning’s clothes, and reminded him to have regular meals.

When he saw Chi Qingning smile and agree, he sent him off to the nanny car before driving back to the Fu family mansion alone.

Fu Wenan casually parked in the underground garage and walked toward the Wanghe Mountain behind the old mansion.

He actually didn’t remember what had happened the previous night. His first reaction upon waking up this morning was that he had a hangover, but seeing the Chi family’s reactions, he felt something was off.

He couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong, but his subconscious kept telling him that Chi Qingzhou’s absence this morning was strange.

If he didn’t want any aftereffects, he should see a professional as soon as possible.

    The sooner, the better.

Only then would he feel assured that Chi Qingzhou would be safe too.

Fu Wenan exhaled slowly, looking up at the Taoist temple on the mountainside of Wanghe Mountain, his face gradually showing a faint trace of dark energy.

The Chi family couldn’t remember last night’s events, but the fear that was ingrained in their bones made them hurriedly leave the villa early in the morning.

Chi Qingzhou stood by the third-floor window, watching as they hurriedly got into their cars and left as if fleeing, then stretched lazily.

“They seem to really like the gifts I gave them.”

He curved his lips, a faint light flashing in his hazy peach blossom eyes.

“They couldn’t wait to test them out this early.”

Xing Shuangzhan emerged from the shadows, one hand around his waist, the other playing with a strand of hair on his forehead, laughing carelessly.

The system couldn’t help but mutter: “How did the host figure out they liked it? Didn’t they run away because they were scared?”

Chi Qingzhou glanced at his shadow.

The system immediately stopped its thoughts and, in a fawning tone, changed the subject: “Host, you were busy yesterday, so I didn’t dare to disturb you. About the task that appeared yesterday, the one involving slapping Fu Wenan’s face, do you want to accept it?”

Chi Qingzhou laughed softly and said ambiguously: “Of course, why not take it since it’s already available?”

Moreover, the task had a special mark, perhaps it could help find part of the ghost energy that was stolen from Brother Su.

The system shuddered instinctively and then asked cautiously: “Shall I accept it now?”

    Chi Qingzhou replied: “Go ahead.”

The system didn’t dare delay, hurriedly accepting the task in the background and also informed Chi Qingzhou about the task rewards.

It was no different from before, still designating a person to get into trouble. But both the system and Chi Qingzhou knew it was uncertain whether the reward would be granted.

After all, the misfortune that had been transferred from the Chi and Fu families to Chi Qingzhou had already been returned to their rightful owners.

Chi Qingzhou, with interest, said: “I’m curious, if the reward can’t be given, what will happen to you?”

Did the previous system, 66594, disappear because of such a bug?

The system trembled violently, looking at Chi Qingzhou with fear in its eyes, almost crying out.

Chi Qingzhou tilted his head and supported his chin, thinking for a moment, then his gaze shifted: “Since the task involving Fu Wenan is about slapping his face, does that mean that Madam Fu will intervene and change the engagement between the Chi and Fu family ?”

Ah, he just wanted to be friends with Fu Wenan, but he didn’t want this kind of fiancé.

Chi Qingzhou changed his posture while supporting his chin: “According to the usual operations of the wealthy families, since the Chi family has supported my older brother for so long, and he has enjoyed so many resources, it’s time for him to contribute to the family… well, that’s what they usually say in rich families, right?”

    The system: “…?”

    Xing Shuangzhan indulgently agreed: “Yes.”

Chi Qingzhou clapped his hands and smiled brightly: “Brother is already 30 years old, not a young man anymore, it’s time to find a companion. It’s a win-win, so let’s just decide like this!”

    The system: “…??”

    Xing Shuangzhan nodded: “Sounds good.”

Chi Qingzhou: “Based on the rules of previous tasks, Fu Wenan will probably be involved in Scenery Along the Way’s next episode.” He thought for a moment and shook his head, “The next episode’ has been canceled, so it shouldn’t be live, then it’s… ‘Wanxiang‘?”

He turned his gaze to the system.

The system stammered: “I… I don’t know about that.”

Chi Qingzhou chuckled softly, his tone light: “You really don’t know anything.”

The system shivered and dared not say a word.

Chi Qingzhou didn’t intend to criticize it, but after a brief thought, he eagerly asked: “Have you ever met 66594? I mean the living version.”

    The system: “…”

It held its breath for a long time, finally squeezing out two words: “No.”

Chi Qingzhou leaned against Xing Shuangzhan’s chest, his smile sly: “Well, that’s a pity. But it’s fine, even though you haven’t met the living 66594, you have a chance to meet the last host of 66594 before it died.”

The system trembled all over: “???”

It looked at Chi Qingzhou in terror, filled with rejection.

Chi Qingzhou’s eyes were filled with sincerity and warmth: “Aren’t you looking forward to it?”
