He close his eyes like that for a few minutes.

No matter how long he held his breath, he couldn’t sense anyone coming out of the mansion.

I can’t even hear anything, should I just open my eyes?

But what if the demon is in front of me when I opens them?

Should I just make a spear first and stab it upwards while opening my eyes?

Until now, Huiyun had only dealt with monsters that came out of a gate out, so he didn’t have any experience fighting demon. In other words, he only ever dealt with something that lacked rationality and only driven by their desire to destroy and kill.

Although he had encountered demons during his previous life as Yasha, past lives were past lives, and present lives were present lives.

Even if those memories exist, freezing up at danger was not something that could be overcome with willpower and memories alone.

Huiyun could feel his heart beating rapidly with fear, so he quietly, very carefully took a deep breath. Once his stiff body relaxed a bit, he started to recall how he had dealt with demons in his past life.

Once that’s done he thought it was the time to finally move.

    Ring!

An alert tone suddenly rang in Huiyun’s ears.

[The administrator has returned. ‘Communication’ mode has been restarted!]

With a cheerful alert, the blue system turned back into golden light.

    [The discipline ended faster than I expected! I’m back! But… what… are you… doing…?]

As soon as they arrived, the administrator, finding Huiyun lying among the fainted people pretending to be dead, asked bewilderedly.

Huiyun narrowed his eyes, whether it was because of his developed perception or the appropriate usage of ellipsis, the administrator bewilderment seemed to transcend dimensions and conveyed perfectly to him.

This is all your fault. If you were going to guide, you should have guided people to a proper gate, are you trying to kill me by throwing me to a high-grade gate?

Even though he lived as the strongest in his previous life, his body now has never experienced a proper battle, not even once, having never fought directly, even his previous ‘battle’ were just throwing spears from a high-rise building.

How could this system throw him into a high-grade gate without even giving him a tutorial?

He thought with a resentful gaze.

[This happened when I wasn’t around. Mr. Huiyun followed the automatic instructions on your own will, so why are you putting the blame on me?]

    …That’s true.

It was hard to refute the truth.

Nevertheless, Huiyun still thinks that it’s unfair.

Upon observing the system’s reaction and seeing no demons in sight when he opened his eyes, he decided that there was no need to pretend to be dead.

    Thud…

The black soil caked on him fell to the ground.

He didn’t know why, but he felt that the golden system window was looking at him pitifully.

“I wasn’t prepared for this at all, but when the mansion door opened, I pretended to be dead. It couldn’t hurt to be cautious, right?”

    […I didn’t say anything.]

The system didn’t seem to catch on at all.

“…So, how do I clear this gate? If you’re going to shove people into a higher-level gate without consent, shouldn’t you provide a proper guide?”

As he spoke, the system was taken aback.

He was quite satisfied to see the system flustered as it refused to comply, stating there was no such thing as guidance in a gate.

    Then why toy with people?

Huiyun stared fixedly at the system window.

Since it seemed determined to somehow assist his awakening, it was an unchanging rule that he would have the upper hand until his awakening.

“Nothing at all? With such incompetence, I have no desire to awaken at all…”

He deliberately extended his words, looking at the system with a troubled expression.

He leaned one cheek on his hand, creating an atmosphere of frustration, he could sense the system window trembling slightly, then it suddenly sparkled with an enthusiastic light, as if it had regained the mindset of an enthusiastic office worker.

[I’ll guide you! Just this once! Leave it to me!]

Huiyun smiled as if he didn’t just manipulated the system. Then, another notification window appeared, complaining about something, but he ignored it without reading it carefully.

The resigned system decided to fulfill its role as a guide, disappearing into the notification window at the speed of light.

[The mansion door opened as a means of urging the newly entered hunter of the raid team, who had entered the gate, to enter within a certain period without showing any action.]

[Where Mr. Huiyun was currently located was the “waiting area”, a place where he could prepare for battle after entering the gate, and the mansion inside was the real gate. If you don’t enter the mansion within a certain time after the door opens, dozens of guardian demons will attack you, so hurry up and move!]

    “How much time is left?”

    [5]

    “5 minutes?”

    [4…]

    What the fuck!

Shocked by the numbers decreasing in seconds, Huiyun dashed towards the mansion.

Once again, he stepped on something as he leaped with all his might, but he decided not to think too much about it.

Sprinting recklessly, he managed to enter the mansion just as the timer reached 1 second, succeeding in entering the mansion before the time was up.

    Swoosh.

A chilling air enveloped Huiyun. It was something familiar to him.

    Demonic Qi.

Shivering from the eerie energy, Huiyun lightly waved his hand to conjure a spear-like weapon.

As he nervously set foot inside the mansion entrance, the system provided additional information about the gate.

[The remnants gate of the Persian Duke is divided into three floors. You must exterminate the enemies on the first floor to proceed to the second floor, and then to the third floor. Be cautious as the enemies become stronger with each floor!]

“Are there no instructions on how to kill them or their weaknesses?”

[Unfortunately, that’s up to the raid team! I’m just providing explanations!]

    “…”

    The audacious notification irritated him.

He was a fool for expecting more.

Realizing that they probably wouldn’t provide further information, Huiyun pulled himself together and scanned his surroundings.

Feeling the dense demonic qi in the air, he sensed that the demon was at least a commander-class and at most a duke-class, which made him tense up.

    Can he do this?

Memories from his past life sporadically surfaced but weren’t complete.

Unable to fully harness the strength from his past life, Huiyun chewed on his lip in uncertainty, then forcibly changed his mindset.

Can he do this? What nonsense. He have to make it work somehow. This isn’t the time for self-doubt.

If he fail, he would die.

People are said to exhibit superhuman strength just before they die, so he believed he could somehow make it through.

At that moment, a dreaded creaking sound shook the mansion.

    Creak, creak.

A grating noise echoed through out the mansion.

Following his sensitive hearing to locate the source of the sound, Huiyun lifted his head and saw the worn-out chandelier above him swaying precariously, as if it could fall at any moment.

In that moment, he felt threatened and tried to took a step back.

    Creakkkk!

    Clang!

With a final snap, the fastening holding the chandelier in place broke, and the chandelier, larger than two adult men combined, fell.

    Fuck!

Huiyun, with widened eyes, instinctively threw himself to the side.

Along with the sound of the chandelier crashing, there was a loud thud from behind. Feeling the vibration of the floor from the impact, Huiyun looked at the shattered chandelier with relief.

If he had been just a bit later or if his body had been frozen from fear, it wouldn’t have been just the chandelier that would have broken.

Cold sweat dripped down his spine. The realization that he almost died made him truly feel the reality of entering the gate.

Slowly getting up, Huiyun tightly gripped the spear with trembling hands.

There’s no point dwelling on his past lives.

This was ‘Mok Huiyun’ first experience to raid a gate. Huiyun decided to focus solely on facing the enemies.

    Ting-ting-tik!

    “…!”

Dozens of lamps and candles went out simultaneously, casting darkness over the mansion. Immediately after, an eerie hissing sound echoed around him, causing him to chew on his lips and focus on the approaching presence.

    [Mr. Huiyun, behind you!]

    Swoosh!

Reacting simultaneously with the system, Huiyun caught the enemy who had stealthily approached in the darkness of the mansion.

He swung the spear towards where he felt the presence.

With a thud, he felt the sensation of his spear piercing something vividly.

Although it sent shivers down his spine, he didn’t have time for such petty emotions.

Withdrawing the spear, the dim light emitted by the spear revealed the faces of the enemies.

    Ke-e-e-eek!

Its skin was as white as a sheet, and its eye sockets were empty leaving behind a black cavity within its rotten flesh. From the gaping mouths of the emaciated body a guttural sound akin to the wailing of ghosts emerged

Huiyun was shocked to see dozens of snakes flying out of its gaping mouth. He swung his spear to swat away the snakes and distance himself from the enemy.

    Grrr.

    Ke-e-e-eek!

A sound of rumbling was heard all around him.

Only then did Huiyun realized that this thing was not alone.

If the lights continue to go out like this, he will be at a disadvantage.

So Huiyun put more power into the spear he was holding, maximizing its size and brightness, and threw it toward the ceiling.

    Boooom!

The spear, which he thrown with all of him power, stuck in the ceiling and became a light that replaced the chandelier and illuminated the whole first floor.

    Ke-e-e-eek!

As the light reached the zombie-like creatures, they recoiled in agony, clutching their faces.

Having found a clue, Huiyun simultaneously conjured three more spears and throw them into the ceiling.

With four spears embedded in the ceiling, they emitted a light brighter than the sun. Even Huiyun couldn’t open his eyes in the intense light.

The light caused the zombie-like creatures to retreat.

Seizing the opportunity, Huiyun summoned a sword instead of a spear and systematically dispatched the incapacitated zombies one by one.

As the blade sliced through the zombies’ necks, seven of them met their end.

    Thud, thud, thud.

The zombies’ heads fell like raindrops, signaling their demise.

    [Wow…]

The admiring system let out a sigh of awe.

    “Huweeeek!”

Huiyun, seeing the disgusting sight of the dispatched zombies, couldn’t hold back any longer and vomited

    [Wow… You totally des–]

As the system began to express its direct admiration, Huiyun had to empty his stomach once more.
