by LuoJin Mantang, who had stepped outside the compartment for some fresh air, spotted the neatly dressed ticket inspector closing the doors. The inspector now stood in front of the first compartment in Car No. 3, preparing to check tickets compartment by compartment—perhaps also keeping an eye out for a missing husky?
Jin Mantang whistled and gave Song Sanchuan, who was inside the compartment, a meaningful glance. The three people inside quickly emptied Gou Fugui’s suitcase, opened the two large cloth bags, and swiftly packed up the black-backed dog, the Labrador, and the husky. Since there was still some extra space in the suitcase, they stuffed in two poodles as well.
Then, these three suitcases and bags filled with dogs were effortlessly lifted by Werewolf Xie, who passed them out the window to Qin Feng, who had been waiting with his hands stretched out at the next compartment’s window.
As the captain of the Doomsday Exploration and Rescue Team’s Second Squad, Qin Feng would have been a formidable presence even without Xie the Werewolf, who defied normal human limits. At the very least, lifting a husky with one hand posed no challenge for him—even adding two poodles wouldn’t be a problem.
Qin Feng swiftly transferred the dogs into their Compartment No. 6, just as the ticket inspector politely knocked on the door of Compartment No. 5—where Gou Fugui and his group were.
“Hello? Ticket inspection.”
Before opening the door, Gou Fugui took one last look around the entire compartment—
The two little squirrels were nestled in Song Sanchuan’s pocket. The orange tabby and calico cat were each hiding between the folded blankets on the upper bunk, forming slightly raised little lumps. The black cat and the tuxedo, being too eye-catching due to their fur patterns, had been stashed away—one inside Gou Fugui’s black backpack, the other tucked directly into Captain Xie’s black raincoat.
Meanwhile, the dumb bird stood by the window, preening its almost-bald feathers, pretending to be an unrelated passerby bird.
Everything was perfect.
Gou Fugui opened the door.
“Hey, brother, you’re here for ticket inspection? Here are our three tickets.”
The ticket inspector stepped in and immediately scanned the entire compartment. There were some water stains on the floor, but that was normal—after all, everyone had boarded in the rain. The bedsheets on both bunks were clean, and while one of the beds had some clothes piled on it, there were no suspicious animal footprints.
He glanced up at the upper bunk—of course, there wasn’t a massive husky sprawled out up there. Though the two folded blankets looked a tiny bit puffy, any reasonable person would know that it was impossible to hide a husky in there.
If someone had actually stuffed a husky into a blanket, that thing would be bulging like a giant steamed bun.
The ticket inspector quickly finished surveying the seemingly ordinary compartment. He then carefully examined the three passengers’ IDs and tickets before concluding that there was no issue.
With a nod to Gou Fugui, he said, “Sorry for the disturbance,” then turned to step out of the compartment.
Just as Gou Fugui was about to close the compartment door, the ticket inspector suddenly turned back, swiftly lowered his head, and peered under the lower bunks on both sides!
For some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about this room. A last-minute surprise check under the beds was his final act of defiance—after all, if someone were to hide a husky, under the bed would be the most logical place.
But his sudden move turned up nothing. The space beneath the bunks was completely empty.
Now feeling a little awkward, the ticket inspector straightened up, only to find himself staring directly into the calm and composed gazes of Gou Fugui, Song Sanchuan, and Xie Tianlang.
Instantly, a wave of guilt washed over him.
“Ahem… Sorry about that. Earlier, someone said they saw a husky climbing onto the train, and I just wanted to double-check. But I guess I must have misheard.”
Gou Fugui looked at the blushing and embarrassed ticket inspector and thought about the husky climbing the train next door. His conscience wouldn’t allow him to be too harsh on this sincere young man.
So, he sincerely shook the inspector’s hand and said, “I understand, I really do! It’s all for the safety of the passengers! You’re a very responsible and dedicated train attendant—don’t worry, we understand!”
The inspector felt touched. As he stepped out of compartment No. 5, he earnestly added, “Serving the people! I’m responsible for the safety and affairs of this carriage, so if you need anything, you can always come to the attendant’s room at the front!”
Gou Fugui nodded seriously, “Of course, no problem.”
“Hey, inspector! You haven’t checked my ticket yet!”
The voice belonged to Jin Mantang, who was sitting by the window. He waved his ticket at the inspector with a cheerful smile. “I’m also in Compartment No. 5. My name is Jin Mantang. Doesn’t my name sound super lucky and prosperous?”
Being a responsible ticket inspector, there was no way he would miss checking a passenger’s ticket—especially one who actively asked for it!
So, naturally, he turned back to check Jin Mantang’s train ticket and ID. Somehow, their conversation went on for several minutes, and before he knew it, he was almost about to reveal the names of the stocks he had invested in!
“…Ahem, Mr. Jin, let’s talk about investments later. I still have to finish checking the tickets. I also need to report to the train conductor.”
Of course, he also had to carefully inspect the remaining compartments to ensure that there was no husky onboard. If he didn’t check every single one, he felt like there was a husky jumping around inside his heart, desperately demanding attention.
At that moment, Jin Mantang caught the hand signal Gou Fugui had secretly given him. With a bright smile, he said, “Of course, of course! We can’t delay your work. Go ahead, inspector! If you ever have any investment questions, just come find me later!”
The inspector left happily, thinking that the passengers on this train were all so warm and polite!
With that, he knocked on the door of Compartment No. 6, only to be greeted by four neatly seated passengers, all smiling at him.
“…”
For some reason, the inspector suddenly felt a little uneasy, as if something was off again.
But after thoroughly checking Compartment No. 6, just like the rest of the soft sleeper carriages, he still didn’t find any trace of a husky. Even after inspecting all ten compartments, he saw no sign of the mysterious dog from the screams he had heard earlier.
Finally, he walked to the window and glanced at the empty railway outside. Maybe… he really had misheard?
Just like that long-haired guy had said—a husky, that dumb and cowardly dog, could never climb through a train window!
Even if it somehow did, there was absolutely no way it could have managed to climb on board!
The ticket inspector left happily and with peace of mind.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in compartments No. 5 and No. 6 remained lively and cheerful.
The pet-loving lady who had earlier screamed in amazement quickly darted from compartment No. 6 to No. 5, her eyes sparkling with excitement—she was here to pet the dog!
But when she stepped inside and discovered that this magical compartment wasn’t just home to one big and one small dog, but also four cats, two squirrels, and even a bird, she felt like she had entered a fluffy paradise!
“Oh my god, honey! We hit the jackpot! I usually have to pay fifty bucks just to go to a cat café!” Now, all these cats, dogs, and little critters were free to cuddle!
Her young, well-mannered husband stood beside her, looking a little helpless as he gave Gou Fugui and the others an awkward smile. Gou Fugui and his companions couldn’t help but smile back.
After that, everything went smoothly along the way. Although the heavy rain and strong wind pounded against the car windows through the night, making loud banging noises, and the car had to stop for an hour in the morning due to the rain, they still successfully arrived at the transit station in Ningshi.
When transferring to the next train, there was no need for another security check, so Gou Fugui and his companions simply carried their suitcases and backpacks straight onto the train from Ningshi to Qingchuan City.
The ticket inspector from Car No. 3, who was traveling with the tourist line, also had to transfer trains. Along the way, he glanced at Gou Fugui and his group and suddenly paused. He distinctly remembered that when checking tickets the day before, this long-haired young man didn’t have that large suitcase and those two big cloth bags.
His mind was filled with questions. But before he could make sense of it all, the train from Ningshi to Qingchuan had to make an emergency stop one-third of the way into the journey.
Just as the train was about to pass through a mountain tunnel, the heavy rain caused severe flooding, completely submerging the tunnel and even leading to a partial collapse in the middle.
The conductor urgently called for assistance, only to discover that the distress signal had been cut off in the mountains. Stranded in a remote area with no villages or towns nearby and the looming threat of landslides, staying inside the train was the most dangerous option.
Fortunately, the next station, Hailan Station in Qingchuan Province, was just 80 kilometers ahead.
Thus, all passengers on the train bound for Qingchuan City had to disembark and make the journey on foot.
Then, the ever-dedicated ticket inspector from Car No. 3 witnessed something that nearly shattered his faith in humanity.
The seemingly kind, considerate, and well-mannered passengers from compartments No. 5 and No. 6 stepped out of the train—only to start opening their suitcases and backpacks, revealing their stowaway “mythical creatures.”
Right before his eyes, a husky with a tail spinning like a windmill bounced toward him, tilting its head in what looked like a mix of mockery and sheer joy.
The ticket inspector clutched his chest in agony.
What happened to trust between people?! Ahhh!!
