    Chapter 1

    Yasha chose suicide.

Whether the reason was grandiose or foolish, the unchanging result is that Yasha committed suicide.

Despite sometimes treating their master like an ant, burning his hair, and behaving without dignity, Yasha left behind six disciples who revered and cherished their master more than anyone else, willing even to be reborn and seek him out again.

He chose to die alone by going into a remote mountain valley without a single word.

There was no trace left of Yasha’s body.

Then, what did the remaining disciples do?

    ***

    “Ugh… My head hurts.”

He stood up, clutching his throbbing head.

He was wearing hospital clothes, he could smell the medicine in his surrounding.

Huiyun looked around the room with a frown, and slightly shook his dazed head.

    He had a dream.

A dream of a peaceful time when he created a garden for young disciples, whose names and faces, he couldn’t remember and helped them practice magic.

The voice calling “Master” became an auditory hallucination, and the voice calling “Yasha” became a delusion.

It was a dream that was he sometimes missed and sometimes bring sadness to him, but ultimately, it was a story to be forgotten.

It happened thousands of years ago.

    “It’s been a long time.”

Huiyun got lost in memories as he gazed out the window.

Cars raced swiftly down the road, proving the hectic reality of modern society.

Suddenly, he turned his gaze and noticed the faint reflection of a black-haired man on the window at the end of his sight.

    Pale and fragile.

To the point where one might wonder how he was living with such a body.

In fact, it was a miracle that he was alive, given that he was halfway to death.

And Huiyun was truly someone who had experienced a miracle.

    Beep!

The mechanical sound that made his older brother Mok Huigang cry three years ago, was still vividly engraved in his mind. When the sound announcing the end of his life filled the world, Huiyun’s world turned upside down.

That day, due to congenital mana hypersensitivity, 17-year-old Mok Huiyun, who had been suffering from it since childhood, became Yasha for the first time.

Huiyun, who was literally on the brink of death, recalled some of his memories from his past life.

And the moment he realized he was the reincarnation of Yasha, his body miraculously recovered.

It wasn’t just a matter of being brought back to life; he became so healthy that it was almost unbelievable, even more stable than other mana hypersensitive patients.

Doctors rushed in astonishment, and Huigang, his older brother, thanked the Gods with glistening eyes, but the vacant-faced Huiyun saw something else.

No, to be precise, he saw something popped out in front of him.

[The power of an honorable savior has manifested in you across the ages. Would you like to awaken?]

That was the price Huiyun paid for coming back to life.

He wasn’t oblivious to the identity of the thing hovering in the air.

Unlike 30 years ago, for the people living in the 21st century, there was nothing as familiar as the system.

It was an era where everyone’s dreams shifted from civil servants to jobs at large corporations, and from corporate jobs to becoming hunters.

And the system was the only means to fulfill such common dreams.

It was the guide and helper that awakened ordinary people into hunters and helped them survive as hunters.

Therefore, Huiyun, who recognized the system window, was bewildered, and within less than a minute, he writhed on the bed in terrible pain, complaining of a dreadful headache.

The memories from his past life that had just emerged and refused to be accepted flooded Huiyun’s mind like puzzle pieces, forcibly finding their place.

Amidst the agony, Huiyun recovered faint memories and realized.

    That he shouldn’t awaken.

Should he awaken when he had experienced that?

As Yasha he lived in the primordial era, he was more powerful than any other creature. He looked at the world with benevolence and had no choice but to commit suicide because his power was too much for him. He chose death for the sake of all life on Earth, bearing all responsibility.

    That was Huiyun’s past life.

Although it was his past life, the emotions Yasha felt at that time were deeply rooted in Huiyun’s mind, leading him to resolve not to awaken.

If Yasha’s power was awakened and revealed to the world, chaos would arise again.

He didn’t want to repeat the same mistake again. With great power comes great responsibility, and Huiyun no longer wanted to bear that responsibility.

With this newfound determination Huiyun pretended not to see the system notifications that others longed for.

He spent most of his time in the hospital and school, suffering from mana hypersensitivity, which had improved but had not been cured.

After spending three years like this, now at the age of 20, Huiyun, who had emerged from the locked memories, looked down at his palm, realizing that quite a long time had passed since then.

Although he had never consciously sought the power of awakening, fate said otherwise.

What this means is that the power of his past life has been transferred to him now, regardless of whether or not he was awakened.

No matter how much he denied it or pretended not to know, he knew he was ‘the savior, Yasha’.

Thanks to that, Huiyun could irregularly use Yasha’s power whenever he wanted, Yasha’s power could even react by itself regardless of his will.

    Just like now.

    “…Here we go again.”

The scenery beyond the window looked incredibly vast and detailed, as if viewed through a microscope.

It was a distance that ordinary people would find difficult to even see, even though it is more than 1km away.

And whenever his abilities were suddenly activated like this, there was always someone or somethin in need of help.

    “Ahhh!”

“Run! If you don’t want to die, run!”

“Damn it, what are the hunters doing!”

Those who found themselves in a life and death situation.

They were people caught up in the most common accident related to gates, the ‘gate out’ phenomenon, where monsters poured out of the gate.

Those who became victims of the accident ran across the ground, furious and sobbing.

    Huiyun sank into silence.

Now that the gate out had just begun, it would take at least another 10 minutes for the hunters to arrive.

    “Yujun! My Yujun!”

    “Mom!”

    “Ahhh!”

The cries of children rang clearly in his ears, as if they were shouting right next to him.

    Save us!

The desperate cries hit Huiyun’s mind like a thunderbolt.

    Please, please, won’t someone…!

Even if it was just a wish, the desperate plea was so intense that it pierced Huiyun’s eardrums harshly.

    “Mommy, Mommy!”

A child of about five screamed until his throat was hoarse.

When the child’s mother was finally caught by the monster’s hand, Huiyun finally leaped out of the window of room 402.

“Why are there so many gate outs happening like this… Shouldn’t they be adding more standby hunters at this rate?”

With dissatisfaction, Huiyun fell and leaped high against the building’s outer wall.

The recoil propelled his light body like a bullet.

After swiftly stepping on and moving through several high-rise buildings in the same manner a few times, Huiyun looked down from the rooftop of the 32nd floor.

    – Ki-e-ek!

Monsters crawling out from the gate came into view.

Judging by the fact that there were fewer than ten of them, it seemed to be a low grade gate.

When he turned his head, he saw the monster holding the child’s mother who had been shouting earlier.

    – Kirrrrk.

Black wings, a black tail, and purple saliva dripping from its mouth.

A clue that these creatures were descendants of the demons that had fought against Yasha.

With a nauseating feeling, Huiyun glanced at the monsters and flicked his fingers.

    Pah-a-aht!

With a bright light, seven spears made of light emerged around Huiyun.

He held his hand forward, and thrust his hand downwards, causing the seven spears rushed towards the monsters.

    Kwagagak!

The sound of air being split sharply echoed as the spears, flying at high speed, pierced through the neck of the monster holding the child’s mother.

    Kwaaah!

That became the signal, and the remaining six spears pierced through the other monsters.

The monsters, writhing in pain, screamed and melted away like wax in the sunlight, disappearing into nothingness.

    “My Yujun!”

The surviving woman rushed to her child and hugged his small body tightly.

The child finally burst into tears of relief, and similar scenes emerged all around.

Finally, Huiyun watched the scene with a satisfied expression.

“Thank goodness, my son. Are you hurt anywhere? Are you really okay? I’m so… I’m so relieved.”

    “Is everyone okay?”

    “We’re okay!”

    “Um, but who saved us?”

“…Yeah? There are no hunters around.”

People started to look around belatedly with questioning eyes.

    “…I should be careful.”

Feeling cautious, Huiyun jumped down to another building just in case.

Not long after, the alarm sound that signals personnel dispatch from the Hunter Management Bureau echoed through the city.

Relieved to realize that those who would take care of the situation had arrived, Huiyun continued to hurry along the building until he coughed up blood.

He reflexively covered his mouth, and a lot of black blood came out on his palm.

[Warning! Using abilities without the assistance of the system may strain the body!]

[The power of an honorable savior has manifested in you across the ages. Would you like to awaken?]

Watching the ominous warning, Huiyun wiped the blood off his hands and swallowed a bitterly.

With a swift motion, the persistent system window disappeared.

Although he ended up saving others like this, Huiyun still had no intention to awaken.

It was easier to hide one’s power and live with it, and that was the way for today’s world.

    “Help!”

“Please! Please! The gate has opened here! It’s a gate out!”

    “Please, someone…!”

    “Please!”

    “God…”

With pleading cries ringing in his mind, Huiyun ruffled his hair. It seemed like the world didn’t care for him after all.
