Chapter 16: You Finally Lost Control in Front of an Alpha

Earlier, Su Qing and Yue Qi had been so engrossed in their conversation that they didn’t notice anyone entering the teahouse. It wasn’t until Qin Yang abruptly inserted himself into the situation that they realized he was there.

From the teahouse entrance, Qin Yang saw the two of them leaning close together at the counter, whispering as though no one else existed. Quietly, he walked closer, fuming at how blatantly intimate they seemed. On one hand, he was angry at their apparent disregard for others, as if they were openly flirting; on the other, he couldn’t resist eavesdropping to find out what they were saying. Unfortunately for him, their voices were so low he couldn’t make out much.

When Qin Yang was close enough, he saw Yue Qi suddenly pull a slender box out of a paper bag, saying something about the medication’s dosage being halved and how it was perfectly safe.

Hmph. Is this what they call righteous hypocrisy? Qin Yang sneered internally. Speaking all these serious words, but their actions are laughably indecent.

If Su Qing truly needed a consultation, why not go to a hospital during the day? Why insist on arranging a private meeting in an empty teahouse in the middle of the night? Obvious intentions.

“Dr. Yue, you certainly go above and beyond for your patients,” Qin Yang interrupted with a sarcastic remark, snatching the box of medication from Yue Qi’s hand. “It’s already past midnight, and yet here you are, still on call—not only making a house call but even personally delivering medicine.” He brought the box closer to his eyes for inspection. “Let’s see… Omega-specific suppressants.”

Qin Yang’s expression darkened immediately. He turned to Su Qing, his tone light but dripping with disdain. “Getting an Alpha to deliver suppressants for you? Clever move.”

So, there’s a pair of scheming hypocrites here, he thought, sneering to himself. One planning the ploy, the other playing along—what a perfect match. They were so in sync it was sickening.

“Su Qing, your mother wasn’t wrong about you,” Qin Yang said, his voice laced with venom. “You’re disgusting.”

The moment those words left Qin Yang’s mouth, Su Qing’s face went deathly pale, his eyes instantly welling up with tears.

He parted his lips, gasping softly, his eyes filled with disbelief and anguish.

“I didn’t ask him to bring it,” Su Qing blurted out, his voice trembling. “I was going to pay for it.”

“Is money the issue right now?” Qin Yang found Su Qing’s rebuttal laughable. “The issue is, how does he even know you’re an Omega? And you let him deliver suppressants to you? Do you realize how ridiculous you’re being? Can you even use them?”

Su Qing looked at the unfamiliar Qin Yang standing before him. He opened his mouth several times but didn’t know what to say. Perhaps he was too disappointed—so hurt that he didn’t even want to speak.

Seeing Su Qing rendered speechless, Qin Yang turned to Yue Qi. “Dr. Yue, you’ve gone to such lengths for our dear Qing-ge. Not only did you pick out such high-end imported suppressants, but they must have been expensive, right? Such a shame though…” He leaned forward mockingly, using his thumb to point at Su Qing. “He can’t even use them!”

“I don’t know what he told you—maybe he claimed he’s a helpless Omega in need of an Alpha’s protection, and that’s why you rushed over with these meds,” Qin Yang sneered, letting out a derisive laugh. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m guessing he didn’t tell you he’s a defective Omega who can’t even go into heat. So, like I said, this medication is wasted on him.”

“He can use them,” Yue Qi replied calmly. “As his boyfriend, you should care more about his health.”

“He can use them?” Qin Yang turned back to Su Qing, laughing in disbelief. His laughter carried a tinge of anger. “So you’ve finally lost control in front of an Alpha, huh? Showing your true, foxy nature? I thought your defect would at least keep you a little more restrained…”

“Qin Yang!” Su Qing’s voice trembled with suppressed anger as he issued a warning.

“What? You can’t handle it now? Guilty conscience?” Qin Yang taunted, meeting Su Qing’s gaze provocatively.

“Why did you come back today, Qin Yang? Did you return in the middle of the night just to pick a fight?” A calm voice cut through the tense atmosphere. At some point, Da Wang had appeared at the kitchen entrance, watching the scene with his usual impassive expression. “If you have time to argue, why not help me clean the kitchen?”

“I don’t have time to clean up after you,” Qin Yang said, raising his chin. “I came back to pack my things. My car’s waiting outside, and I’m in a hurry.”

“Then let me help you,” Da Wang said, stepping toward the stairs. “The quicker you pack, the sooner you can leave. We’re about to close.”

“You—” Qin Yang was so enraged by Da Wang’s words that he could barely get a sentence out. Pointing at Da Wang, he stammered, “Don’t push me too far!”

“Push you too far?” Da Wang paused mid-step, his expression one of mild confusion. “You’re the one who said you came back to pack your things, and that your car’s waiting and you’re in a rush. I’m just trying to help. How is that pushing you too far?” He frowned at Qin Yang. “But let me tell you this: Qing-ge has taken care of you for seven whole years. I won’t even talk about how much effort and care he’s given you. Just from what I know, everything you’ve eaten, drunk, worn, and used—even your high school and college tuition fees, plus any tutoring fees—he paid for all of it, didn’t he?

“If you want to walk away now, that’s fine. Treat it as if his genuine care for you all these years was fed to the dogs. But,” Da Wang’s tone grew cold and unyielding, “pay that money back to me.”

Da Wang, typically reticent, rarely said so much at once. But he couldn’t stand the sight of Qin Yang treating Su Qing like something disposable. A perfectly fine young man, Su Qing had simply wanted to help Qin Yang live a better life. After college graduation, it was natural for Qin Yang to pursue his own future—no one would have demanded repayment for those years of kindness or monetary support. Instead, they would have wished him well on his journey ahead. Da Wang even knew that Su Qing had always been grateful for the companionship Qin Yang had given him over the years.

But Qin Yang didn’t understand gratitude.

Even if he couldn’t be grateful, he shouldn’t treat Su Qing so rudely.

Qin Yang’s face turned red with anger after Da Wang’s words. He had returned today to repay Su Qing—he didn’t want to owe him anything. He wanted a clean break between them. But being confronted and publicly asked for money like this made him feel deeply humiliated.

“I came here to pay him back,” Qin Yang snapped, pulling a crumpled check out of his bag and slapping it onto the counter. “I don’t know exactly how much I’ve spent over the past seven years, but I know private universities aren’t cheap. Here’s one million yuan for now. If it’s not enough, contact my manager.” He turned to head upstairs, but Su Qing grabbed his arm.

“You just started your career—how could you possibly have so much money?” Su Qing asked in shock. “I don’t want your money, Xiao Yang. I never thought of asking you to repay me. We’re family—”

“Can you stop already?” Qin Yang interrupted, shouting angrily. “Family, family—it’s all you ever talk about! Are you trying to emotionally blackmail me? We’re not even related by blood, so why do I have to let you treat me like family?”

He roared furiously, “You’ve always known I never wanted to be part of your so-called family!”

For years, Qin Yang had been worn down by the constant mention of “family.” Now, even Da Wang—who usually stayed out of other people’s business—had joined in, using the same word to pressure him. It was infuriating.

“I don’t need a family,” Qin Yang said, meeting Su Qing’s eyes and reiterating firmly, “I’ve told you before—I don’t want to be your family.” He shook off Su Qing’s hand and went upstairs without looking back. Da Wang followed him up in silence.

Su Qing stared dazedly at the check, unable to comprehend how things had come to this. How had the child he raised grown up to become someone who resented him so deeply?

“Su Qing?” Yue Qi called softly, concern evident in his voice as he looked at the heartbroken man in front of him. “Do you want to go talk to him? Maybe this time he really misunderstood and thought… that there’s something between us.”

Yue Qi tried to comfort Su Qing, attempting to rationalize Qin Yang’s malice. “The bond between an Omega and a Beta is different. Beta partners are more likely to feel insecure. If you explain things to him, maybe he’ll calm down.”

After thinking it over, Yue Qi reluctantly decided to heed Qin Yang’s earlier suggestion. “I won’t come around anymore. I’m sorry for causing you trouble.” Seeing Su Qing so upset, Yue Qi assumed he was heartbroken and felt a deep sense of guilt.

Su Qing looked up at Yue Qi and wiped his face. “I’m the one who should apologize—for letting you witness such a mess.”

Airings of family conflicts were humiliating.

But what made it even worse was that this wasn’t even a family conflict.

Qin Yang had just made it clear—they weren’t a family at all.

    (To Be Continued…)
