DMPSA CH 35
by jj.ssasipscoffeeChapter 35: Something Happened at the Tea House
Yue Qi missed Su Qing. Very, very much.
He was such a simple and gentle person, yet everything about him left a vivid mark on his heart. It was like a deep, sharp cut made with vibrant colors, the kind that slices through paper, leaving no visible wound but causing a dull pain that wouldn’t go away, reminding Yue Qi of him constantly.
The longing hurt. Even drinking a cup of tea hurt. Walking past a cat hurt. Even seeing the color green hurt.
The bag of green pepper cookies he treasured was almost gone, only two pieces left. The fragrance had already faded, but he still couldn’t bring himself to finish them. He carefully wrapped them in plastic wrap and placed them in the fridge, taking them out to look at whenever the craving became unbearable.
Before the New Year, Yue Qi’s father found out that this troublesome son not only didn’t plan to bring anyone home for the holidays but wasn’t even coming home himself. He claimed he had to stay in the hospital on duty, as if the hospital would collapse without him. His father, furious, hung up the phone, not wanting to hear another word of explanation.
Yue Qi, who had been hung up on, actually felt a sense of relief. His excuses were all nonsense. His father probably wouldn’t even listen, and it was better that way to avoid making him angrier.
On the first, second, and third days of the New Year, Yue Qi worked in the hospital. On the third day, which happened to be a Sunday, he was on duty until 8 a.m.
Dr. Wu, who came to relieve him, was very grateful for Yue Qi’s active support during the past few days. From the New Year’s Eve to the second day of the New Year, it was the peak of family reunions, especially for married people, who had to run between their parents’ homes. It was exhausting but also joyful.
“Alright, today is February 14th, Valentine’s Day. Dr. Yue, go and enjoy the holiday,” Dr. Wu winked at Yue Qi, “You seemed so full of spring last time, looks like good times are just around the corner, huh?”
Yue Qi smiled bitterly. The good times had already ended.
Dr. Wu had been helping in general surgery recently and had just returned last week. He still had the impression of Yue Qi as the happy, cheerful person he had been two months ago.
Yue Qi waved at him and left.
He had three days off after leaving the hospital, but once outside, he didn’t know where to go. It was the holiday season, and also Valentine’s Day, so wherever he went, it just felt irritating.
His mind was confused, but his body was honest. Before he realized it, he was already standing at the familiar street corner. If he turned the corner, he would see the tea house. Why not go have a look? The tea house wasn’t open at this hour, so he wouldn’t have to worry about running into anyone.
Once he made up his mind, he walked forward, only wanting to quietly pass by.
But unexpectedly, when he turned the corner, it wasn’t quiet at all.
Several people were yelling and throwing things in the tea house’s yard. The little sweet osmanthus tree was pushed and its branches were a mess, scattering small flowers all over the ground. The glass door and a large floor-to-ceiling window of the tea house had been smashed.
“Stop causing trouble,” Su Qing, dressed in home clothes, appeared in front of the broken glass door. He anxiously shouted, “My cat is hurt!”
“All you care about is your cat. Our Yang Yang was hurt by you, why don’t you say anything about that?” Several people began to curse again.
Su Qing, in a panic, was holding the cat that was shaking in fear and trying to reason with them. “Calm down, I really don’t know what you’re talking about, stop throwing things…” Su Qing had been woken up by the sound of the shop being smashed downstairs. He hurried downstairs, not noticing that the cat had followed him out of the room. Jasmine had been startled by the loud noise in the tea house, and in a panic, she jumped onto the broken glass and got hurt. Su Qing still hadn’t figured out what was happening and didn’t know what went wrong.
“Liars!” Another stone flew past. Su Qing, holding the struggling cat in his arms, didn’t have time to react and was hit on the forehead by the heavy little stone. He gasped in pain, covering his forehead and retreating a couple of steps.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Yue Qi shouted as he ran toward Su Qing. When he saw the person stagger, pressing his hand to his head, he knew something was wrong.
As soon as he got closer to Su Qing, he saw that blood was already flowing from the hand covering his forehead. Yue Qi angrily shielded Su Qing behind him, facing the troublemakers and saying, “I’ve already called the police. None of you are leaving.”
“We’re not afraid,” a little girl said, trying to act tough. “It’s perfect if the police come, they can arrest him. He hurt Yang Yang. We have pictures. Let’s see how he denies it.”
“I’ve never seen such a shameless person. Now that our Yang Yang is famous, he just clings to him, acting like they’re close. They’re just neighbors, but he thinks they have some special relationship…”
“Exactly. Before, he used Yang Yang’s name to promote the cat store, saying Yang Yang worked here as a waiter. I’ve been here so many times and never saw him. It was all lies…”
The group of young fans causing the trouble continued shouting, and more and more neighbors gathered around the tea house to watch. Some couldn’t stand it anymore and shouted, “What’s with the way you’re talking? You’re talking about Qin Yang, right? He really worked here as a waiter before. I’ve seen it. When I came to eat, he served me. The boss isn’t lying!”
One person stepped forward, and other neighbors also spoke up: “Yeah, maybe you misunderstood something. Boss Su is a good person. He would never hit anyone.”
“We have photos, and you’re still speaking up for him?” The fans shouted back angrily.
The noise outside the tea house grew louder. Yue Qi turned around and saw Su Qing, looking anxious, holding Jasmine and checking her paws, while his own forehead was still bleeding.
“Hey, press on the wound,” Yue Qi said, taking out a handkerchief and directly pressing it to Su Qing’s forehead.
“I’m fine,” Su Qing pushed Yue Qi’s hand away. His eyes were bloodshot, and because of his nervousness, they were overly moist. He couldn’t see the condition of the cat clearly. He raised the cat in front of Yue Qi and anxiously said, “Please check on Jasmine. She stepped on the glass and jumped several times. I don’t know if any glass shards got stuck in her.” Jasmine kept meowing, making Su Qing even more anxious.
Yue Qi carefully checked all four of Molly’s paws and indeed found some injuries, one paw still bleeding.
“At the moment, it doesn’t look like there are large glass shards, but we should get her checked at the hospital. We’ll take Jasmine to the vet afterward,” Yue Qi said, then raised his hand to press on Su Qing’s forehead again. “You need to stop the bleeding first.”
“I told you, it’s nothing,” Su Qing was getting very irritated, and holding the cat, he just wanted to leave. At this point, the police had arrived, and upon hearing the sirens, the disruptive fans were all intimidated. They all wanted to run, but were surrounded by the tea house neighbors.
One police officer tried to come over to ask what happened, and Su Qing explained that he had contacted the shop employees who were coming immediately and could assist in checking the surveillance footage at the door. He asked the officer to let him take the cat to the doctor first.
The police officer noticed the blood on Su Qing’s head and said, “You should go to the doctor first.”
Yue Qi replied, “I’m a doctor. I’ll take him to the hospital.”
At this point, Da Wang had arrived to take over. When he saw Yue Qi was also here, he wasn’t happy. However, since Su Qing was injured and the tea house was in chaos, he reluctantly let Yue Qi take Su Qing away.
(To Be Continued…)
