Chapter 36: Why should you know?

At Su Qing’s insistence, Yue Qi drove Su Qing’s car, first taking Jasmine to the veterinary clinic to be properly looked after. Only after that did Su Qing agree to let Yue Qi take him to the affiliated hospital of A University.

In the car, the two fell into silence. A female singer’s gentle voice filled the car as her song played on the radio. The lyrics, “You still need to be happy,” repeated over and over, and Yue Qi couldn’t help but feel a pang in his heart.

“You need to be happy,” this was the wish Yue Qi made to Santa Claus, a blessing for Su Qing. But on this Valentine’s Day, the tea house had been destroyed, the cat was injured, and he himself had been hit in the head. What kind of happiness was this?

Unable to contain himself, Yue Qi asked Su Qing what had happened, but Su Qing appeared just as confused and shook his head in response.

He opened his phone and searched for Qin Yang’s name. Those crazy fans had mentioned photos, and he had to see what kind of photo had caused such a mess, especially with the whole situation escalating during the New Year.

After searching the internet and finding no related news, Su Qing was still left in the dark. At that moment, a few photos were sent over by Da Wang.

Sure enough, they were photos taken on New Year’s Eve, showing Qin Yang and Su Qing in the tea house, pulling at each other. Qin Yang had his shirt half open, and Su Qing was tugging at it, seemingly inspecting other injuries. The angle of the photos was ambiguous, no wonder the fans had come up with all kinds of wild interpretations.

As Su Qing was staring at the photos in silence, Da Wang called.

Da Wang briefly explained the situation: the photos had been taken by Qin Yang’s fan. She had accidentally seen her idol enter the tea house on New Year’s Eve and had hidden outside, hoping to take a photo with him when he came out.

The little fan had waited outside, unable to hear the conversation inside the tea house, and there were some obstructions to her view. Therefore, she hadn’t seen everything clearly. However, when things got heated, she saw Su Qing making physical contact with Qin Yang, and it even looked like Su Qing had hit Qin Yang with a broom when they had an argument. The most heartbreaking part was when Qin Yang was kicked out of the tea house, standing alone outside in the dark, a lonely and desolate figure that broke the fan’s heart.

Her idol was being bullied, and she couldn’t stand it. She wanted to seek justice for Qin Yang. However, she also worried that the photos would harm Qin Yang’s image. After much contemplation, unsure of what to do, she turned to a few friends from fan groups and told them what had happened. These “wise” individuals, with their incredible ability to weave stories, came up with an absurd tale. They had heard of the tea house owner’s relationship with Qin Yang’s neighbor, so they concocted a story where Qin Yang was allegedly coerced into repaying a favor to the evil neighbor. After rejecting the offer, he was brutally beaten and thrown out. They were so scared by their own creation, their hearts aching for Qin Yang, that they all decided to take action and vent their frustrations on his behalf.

Su Qing listened quietly to this absurd mix-up, truly unsure of where his anger should be directed. He sighed deeply and said, “I see. You handle the rest. There’s no need for mental compensation or anything like that. As for the medical bills for Jasmine and the damage to the tea house, let them cover it.” He was about to hang up.

“Wait,” Da Wang called out from the other end of the phone. “Why did Qin Yang come back to find you on New Year’s Eve?” Looking at the photos, it was clear that Su Qing was furious enough to hit someone, which definitely wasn’t a good sign.

“It’s nothing. He was just kicked out by me.” Su Qing hung up, feeling drained and wanting to rest his eyes.

“Was that Da Wang?” Yue Qi asked. “Did he figure out what happened?”

When Su Qing opened the photos earlier, the car was stopped at a red light, and Yue Qi took the chance to glance at the images. Though a little blurry, he had already suspected it might involve Qin Yang, so he recognized the figures in the photos as Su Qing and Qin Yang, caught in a dispute.

“Was it really about Qin Yang?” Yue Qi hesitated for a moment, recalling the image of the disheveled man in the photos, before finally asking, “Did he come to see you for something?”

“It’s nothing,” Su Qing replied tiredly, shaking his head. His tone softened with apology. “I’m sorry. It was too rushed just now, and I forgot that it would’ve been easier for Jasmine and me to just take a taxi. I’ve wasted your time.”

“It’s no trouble,” Yue Qi reassured him, trying to cover up his embarrassment. “I was planning to go back to the hospital to grab something. I left something in the doctor’s office.” He came up with a clumsy excuse.

“That’s good,” Su Qing said, feeling a bit more at ease.

“Do you want to sleep?” Yue Qi asked, remembering Su Qing’s tendency to get sleepy in the sunlight. He suggested, “You can rest for a bit, and I’ll wake you up when we get to the hospital.” Actually, A University Hospital was quite close to the tea house, and Yue Qi usually walked there to go back to his dorm or to the tea house. However, since he had first taken Jasmine to a vet across town, it would take a bit more time to head back to A University.

Su Qing thanked him and closed his eyes, deciding not to speak anymore. His mood was utterly dejected. He had already been so disappointed with Qin Yang, and now with these photos surfacing, he didn’t expect Qin Yang to come forward and clarify things. In fact, there was nothing Qin Yang could clarify. If the events from that night were exposed, Qin Yang would likely have to withdraw from the entertainment industry.

Never mind, for now, the photos hadn’t leaked to the public, so dealing with these fans was the main issue. There was no need for further explanations.

“Su Qing, we’ve arrived.” After about twenty minutes, Yue Qi softly called to him, “Do you feel dizzy? Wait a moment, I’ll help you out of the car.”

“No need, thank you.” Su Qing opened his eyes and smiled at Yue Qi. “I’ll go in myself.” With that, he got out of the car and walked straight ahead.

“Su Qing,” Yue Qi quickly got out of the car, calling out to Su Qing as he hurriedly walked away. He couldn’t help but shout, “The emergency room is over here.” He pointed with his thumb toward the door on the side.

“Oh,” Su Qing touched his nose and walked back to where Yue Qi was standing. He took his car keys with a soft “thank you” and hurried into the emergency room. Yue Qi felt a little bittersweet, thinking how cute this absent-minded person was. He followed Su Qing into the room.

Su Qing was already waiting to be triaged. Yue Qi greeted the attending physician and then grabbed a clean white coat to wear, heading to the treatment room. Sure enough, Su Qing was already sitting there, waiting.

Su Qing was a bit surprised to see Yue Qi walk in as the doctor, but quickly realized it wasn’t that surprising. Yue Qi was, after all, a surgeon at A University’s medical school, and stitching up wounds was hardly a difficult task.

With a furrowed brow, Yue Qi began examining Su Qing’s wound. “The bleeding has mostly stopped, but the wound is a bit deep. It will need three or four stitches. You’ll have to bear with it.”

    “Okay,” Su Qing replied obediently.

“It may leave a scar. I’ll try to make the stitches as fine as possible,” Yue Qi hesitated and asked, “Or should I call in a plastic surgeon to stitch it?”

“No need, it’s not a big deal,” Su Qing smiled. “It’s just a small wound, no need for another doctor.”

Another “no need.” Yue Qi sighed inwardly, hoping that Su Qing would one day realize that he wanted to be his priority.

Yue Qi carefully disinfected the wound, applying local anesthesia, and the nurse brought a plastic surgery suture kit to help. A short wound was stitched up neatly with ten fine stitches.

“…Wasn’t it supposed to be just three or four stitches?” Su Qing thought, confused.

“Wow, Dr. Yue, you’re really meticulous,” a nurse passing by commented when she saw Su Qing’s forehead. “The stitches are so neat, it’s just like what Dr. Liao from plastic surgery would do.”

“You can rest assured, Dr. Yue has sewn it up so well that it definitely won’t leave a scar,” the nurse said to Su Qing.

“…Thank you.” I don’t care about the scar, though. It’s located on the upper left side of my forehead, and my hair will cover it.

“We’ll prescribe you some cosmetic gel to apply after the stitches are removed,” Yue Qi said as he carefully applied the bandage and instructed him, “For the next few days, avoid getting the wound wet. Be careful when washing your face or hair.”

“Okay, thank you, Dr. Yue,” Su Qing replied.

“We’ll need to do a CT scan of your brain…” Yue Qi was interrupted before he could finish.

“Is it really necessary?” Su Qing interrupted Yue Qi’s instructions, a little panicked but also wanting to laugh. “It was just a small rock hitting me. No need for a CT scan. It’d be wasting medical resources.”

“Wasting resources? I was actually thinking of admitting you!” Yue Qi said seriously.

“Ha…” Su Qing couldn’t help but laugh. Yue Qi really was overreacting. He regularly handles major surgeries like cranial surgeries, but now, for his small 3 cm injury, he wants to admit him to a bed.

“What’s so funny?” Yue Qi glared at him.

“Nothing, nothing.” Su Qing smiled and shook his head, then stood up from the treatment chair, giving Yue Qi a slight bow. “Thank you, Dr. Yue. This is enough, no need to trouble yourself further.” He picked up the form on the desk. “Dr. Yue, do you need to return to your office for something? I’ll head out first.”

At this moment, only the two of them were left in the treatment room. Yue Qi couldn’t help but grab Su Qing’s arm. “What happened today? You’re hurt like this, and I can’t just let it go without asking more.”

“Why can’t you?” Su Qing asked, surprised. “I’m not a child being abused at home, requiring you to report me to social services. It’s just an accidental injury. Is there really something special to record about it?” Was it really this detailed in the hospital records nowadays?

“Su Qing, you know what I mean,” Yue Qi really couldn’t help but care. The image of Qin Yang unbuttoning his shirt and getting physical with Su Qing had already played like a movie in Yue Qi’s mind. “Why did Qin Yang come back to find you? Why was he disheveled and getting physical with you? I need to know that this won’t happen again. I need to know that you’re safe.”

Su Qing, who had been in shock and confusion, slowly calmed down after hearing Yue Qi’s words. He looked at Yue Qi calmly and softly asked, “Why should you know?”

“Why do you need to know?”
