Chapter 42:  Believing in Love [The End]

“If a person isn’t ruthless enough, staying in a loveless relationship is nothing but cruel.”
This line of lyrics started to loop in Yue Qi’s mind, causing him to frown.

“We can date, but that doesn’t mean we have to grow old together,” Su Qing continued to explain seriously. “Consider this my way of putting the hard truths out there first. I don’t really believe in ‘happily ever after,’” he added, quickly cutting Yue Qi off before he could protest, “but I do believe in love itself.”

“I believe in every genuine moment in love. I believe in every kiss you’ve given me, every time you’ve told me you liked me, every time you’ve coaxed me to sleep during the day or stayed awake with me at night. Those are all real expressions of love.” Su Qing looked earnestly at Yue Qi, whose eyes were clouded with confusion. “I’m not obsessed with whether we’ll last forever. What I care about is whether every day we spend together is full of happiness and joy.”

“I know you’re different from that Alpha in the ER or from my father. And I also understand that life has its inevitable forces. Beyond the separations of life and death, the unpredictability of human emotions is even harder to foresee. I trust that you’ll do your utmost to protect our relationship—I will, too. But you also need to trust me,” Su Qing’s eyes were slightly red, though his voice remained firm as he continued, “If the day ever comes when we can’t go on, or your feelings for me fade, please let me know. And please let me go.”

Yue Qi’s eyes were reddening, stunned by Su Qing’s words. Just as they were about to embrace their sweetness, this man was here, earnestly preparing him for separation.

“Yue Qi, promise me you’ll love me well,” Su Qing leaned across the bar counter, taking Yue Qi’s hand in his own. “Stay with me until the day you don’t love me anymore.” He smiled lightly, pretending to be playful as he teased, “And if that day comes, let me go so I can find my next love.”

“Alright, I promise you,” Yue Qi’s voice quivered, his throat tight with emotion. “If… if I stop loving you, I’ll let you go.”
Yet even as he spoke, his grip on Su Qing’s hand tightened. Taking a deep breath, Yue Qi continued firmly, “But you won’t live to see that day. It’s impossible.”

Su Qing wanted to argue that nothing was truly impossible, but this time Yue Qi silenced him. Reaching out with his free hand, Yue Qi cradled the back of Su Qing’s head, leaning in aggressively to capture his lips. The kiss was fierce but controlled; he bit Su Qing’s lip lightly before resting his forehead against Su Qing’s, whispering in a low voice, “Don’t talk to me about the future. I get it now—you only care about the present. So here’s what I’m telling you: I, Yue Qi, love you this very minute, love you today, and will love you one day at a time. When I’m dead, they can seal my coffin, and there’ll be no need for anyone to debate it.”

Yue Qi spoke his passionate words with reddened eyes, his fiery love leaving Su Qing’s legs weak. The scent of osmanthus began to spread. Su Qing noticed the tingling itch at the back of his neck, and the faint aroma of tea soon intertwined with the osmanthus scent. Yue Qi smelled it too, and in a matter of seconds, the two fragrances mingled intimately.

Yue Qi’s fingers threaded through Su Qing’s hair, firmly massaging the back of his head before releasing his grip and lowering his gaze. “Where’s your suppressant? Go and take it now.”

Su Qing walked out from behind the bar, trembling slightly. Standing in front of Yue Qi, his face flushed as he mustered his courage. “What if I say… I don’t want to take it?” He looked at Yue Qi and asked, “Aren’t we officially dating now? You just said you loved me a moment ago. So, will you still love me in the next moment? In the middle of the night?”
Fighting against his embarrassment, he stepped closer and rested his head on Yue Qi’s shoulder. “Can you smell my scent? Even just a little? Do you like it?”

Yue Qi clenched his jaw, his breathing heavy. It was a mixture of exasperation and delight as he swept Su Qing into his arms and carried him straight to the second floor.

Upstairs, in Su Qing’s bedroom, the door clicked shut, and the mingled scents of both men grew even more potent in the confined space.

Yue Qi gently placed Su Qing on the bed, his eyes filled with both desire and concern. “Are you okay? Do you feel dizzy?” His hand brushed aside Su Qing’s short bangs, carefully avoiding the injury on his left temple. He pressed a soft kiss to Su Qing’s forehead, tenderly as if afraid to disturb the fragile man beneath him.

Taking deep breaths, Su Qing spoke slowly, “Mm, I feel a little dizzy. Like I’ve had a drink—just slightly tipsy.” His face burned as he turned his head away, unable to meet Yue Qi’s gaze. His voice trembled with both shyness and resolve. “Yue Qi, I… I might faint later, but I want you to know, even if I do, I still want you. I… I want to truly be with you. I want you to… come inside.” His voice hitched slightly, but he pressed on, determined to finish. “I want you to mark me.”

“I—I have a reserved mark, but for you… I’ve gone mad,” Su Qing whispered, covering his burning face with the back of his hand, his embarrassment reaching its peak.

“Damn,” Yue Qi cursed under his breath. This man, so gentle and refined, exuding the elegant tea-like scent of simplicity, was now speaking such bold and passionate words. Yue Qi understood that Su Qing was compensating for his restrained physical reactions. If his body couldn’t express it, then he’d verbalize it, making sure his lover knew how much he desired him.

Yue Qi steadied his breathing, surrounding Su Qing with the warm and gentle scent of osmanthus. He wanted to ease Su Qing into it, to touch him softly and carefully. He wanted to cherish this reserved yet passionate lover.

He wanted to kiss every inch of Su Qing, to make sure that in Su Qing’s last moment of consciousness, he could still hear Yue Qi telling him he loved him.

Yue Qi meticulously released his osmanthus scent, taking great care to make Su Qing feel comforted. The two of them were both hurried and unhurried, restrained yet unrestrained, moving between urgency and tenderness.

Yue Qi’s teeth grazed Su Qing’s nape, his tongue lightly brushing against the sensitive skin. His fangs gently pressed against the slightly swollen gland. Before Su Qing lost consciousness, Yue Qi entered him and simultaneously sank his fangs into the tender flesh of Su Qing’s nape.

Su Qing felt a mix of pain and pleasure before completely losing consciousness.

After Su Qing passed out, Yue Qi withdrew, though he still held his teeth gently against Su Qing’s neck. He refused to continue while Su Qing was unconscious, unwilling to seek pleasure only for himself. But he would complete this temporary mark.

Su Qing had said he wanted to belong to him. Yue Qi would fulfill that wish.

Yue Qi exercised immense patience, carefully injecting his pheromones into Su Qing. With no visible reaction from Su Qing, Yue Qi could only rely on his instincts to gauge whether the mark was complete.

Though unconscious, Su Qing’s body took on a faint pink hue, delicate and captivating. The marking was finished. Yue Qi leaned closer to inhale the lingering scent at the back of Su Qing’s neck, a mingling of their fragrances—osmanthus and Jin Xuan tea—still warm and intoxicating. He bent down to kiss his sleeping beauty before getting up to the bathroom to relieve himself.

As dawn broke, Su Qing woke in Yue Qi’s arms, completely naked but clean and refreshed.

He was unsure about what had happened afterward and reached up to touch the back of his neck. “Hiss…” He winced. It stung slightly, as if the skin had been broken.

“You’re awake?” Yue Qi, equally bare, groggily opened his eyes and met Su Qing’s shy, smiling gaze. “Does it hurt? Did I bite too hard?”

Su Qing shook his head, his eyes fixed on the bedsheets, unable to stop smiling. After a while, he asked, “Did we… do it?”

“We did,” Yue Qi replied matter-of-factly, reasoning that even going in briefly counted. “And I marked you. From now on, you’re my Omega.”

“And I’m your Alpha,” Yue Qi added after a moment. “Today, I love you.”

Su Qing burst out laughing, his joy so infectious that Yue Qi found himself laughing along, albeit slightly confused. Then Su Qing raised an eyebrow at him and teased, “Say it for me.”

Yue Qi knew exactly what Su Qing wanted to hear. At the break of dawn, after their first night together, how could he refuse any of Su Qing’s requests?

“Xiao Qing-gege,” Yue Qi said without hesitation, having perfected the art of saying it without blushing or stammering. Su Qing loved hearing it, and if calling him that ten or even eight times made him happy, Yue Qi was more than willing to oblige. He obediently repeated it, nuzzling his fluffy head against Su Qing’s waist, making Su Qing squirm and giggle uncontrollably.

“Good boy,” Su Qing said, rubbing Yue Qi’s head. “Now take off your watch.” His eyes curved into a playful smile.

“Why?” Yue Qi was not so easily swayed by Su Qing’s grin. He instinctively clasped his right hand over his left wrist, holding the watch protectively against his chest, as if determined not to give it up. “I won’t. You gave this to me—”

Before he could finish, Su Qing interrupted, “Strictly speaking, it was Qin Yang who tossed it to you for recycling. Later, you took it from me under the guise of friendship. Either way, I don’t think it suits you.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “I don’t want to see it on my boyfriend’s wrist.”

“You don’t want…” Yue Qi started to protest, but the word “boyfriend” caught his attention. Instantly, he switched his tone. “Alright, I’ll take it off right now.”

Without hesitation, Yue Qi removed the watch and placed it in Su Qing’s hand, grinning foolishly as he asked, “Now my boyfriend’s wrist is bare. What should we do about it?”

“What boyfriend?” Su Qing retracted the watch, feigning ignorance.

“Hey, how can you be like this?” Yue Qi protested loudly. “You just said I was your boyfriend!”

While Yue Qi was still complaining, Su Qing softly murmured, “Husband.” Even the tips of his ears were flushed red.

Yue Qi’s face turned bright red in an instant. “W-what is it?”

Su Qing laughed and threw himself into Yue Qi’s arms, his voice muffled as he asked, “Want to go again?”

At thirty-seven years old, Su Qing was experiencing his first real heat. Unlike other Alphas or Omegas who could effortlessly emit their pheromones, he clumsily tried to release all of his tea-scented fragrance while pinning Yue Qi beneath him. The faint yet elegant aroma was his way of pouring out all his meager but unreserved love for his partner.

Yue Qi inhaled the subtle, refined tea scent and heard Su Qing’s teasingly seductive question. Su Qing’s way of seeking intimacy was enough to drive him crazy.

Forget about restrained marking—this man was anything but restrained.

Both of them were naked as Yue Qi flipped their positions and took control. Before the osmanthus scent could overwhelm Su Qing, Yue Qi thrust into him, entering Su Qing’s warmth without hesitation. This time, Su Qing didn’t have the chance to pass out. He fully experienced Yue Qi’s real and overwhelming presence.

“It hurts, hurts, hurts…” Su Qing frowned and begged for mercy, his legs spread wide and trapped against Yue Qi’s waist as he struggled.

Yue Qi moved gently within him, his eyes locked on Su Qing’s. “Do you like it?” he asked.

Su Qing gasped for breath, inhaling the faint osmanthus fragrance that Yue Qi couldn’t fully suppress. His consciousness began to blur once again. Before he succumbed to the haze, he endured his embarrassment and whispered, “I love it to death.”

    Yue Qi was very satisfied.

For the rest of his life, Yue Qi might never see Su Qing lose himself in madness or abandon all reason for him in the throes of passion. He might rarely hear his coquettish, restrained moans or his wild, unrestrained cries of pleasure.

But this tender, gentle lovemaking was more than enough to make Yue Qi addicted.

Who said his s*x life was unfulfilling? His supposedly frigid partner only needed to catch a whiff of his osmanthus scent to be mesmerized, boiling over with desire. How could that be called frigid?

    It was scorching hot—explosively so.

The warm Su Qing was, in the end, the blazing fire of Yue Qi’s life.

    The End.
