The scene of Gou Fugui carrying a big tuna was so shocking that the refugees, who were originally drowsy in the gymnasium, instantly became alert.

“Aiyo! Such a big fish! You are very capable, young man!”

“Oh this brother must have amazing strength and good compatibility with water to be able to catch such a big fish during a stormy weather!” The main point is that he didn’t die, this is already really 6[1].

“According to my ten years of sea fishing experience, this is an albacore, known also as the longfin tuna. Even though it’s not as big as a blue fin or yellow fin, but this one is about one meter long! Which should be about eighty pounds!”

“But tunas usually live in the deeper part of the sea, how did this young man manage to catch such a big one?”

“Why would I care how he managed to catch one? I just want to know if it’s for sale or not. I’ve been eating seafood flavoured instant noodles for two days in a row now aaaaah! Additionally, the food in the gymnasium is so bland and stale, I am craving fresh sashimi or grilled fish!!”

The young man who spoke last really expressed what was on everyone’s minds — fishes are so delicious, who wouldn’t want fresh food?

Some people with sharp eyes also noticed that the handsome guy with long hair had a small backpack on his back, and the key point is that the backpack was moving!

This is so obvious and almost self-explanatory!

So immediately, a few impatient and wealthy individuals quickly headed towards Gou Fugui. The fastest among them was a rich young man who happened to be staying in the front row, just diagonally ahead of Gou Fugui’s single-person tent.

“Brother you’re so awesome!” The moment the rich young man arrived in front of him, he immediately called brother, “Let’s get straight to the point, is three thousand yuan enough for your fish head? I have cash! If brother doesn’t accept cash, I can use the rings on my hand to trade for it!”

After he finished talking, he showed Fugui his hands, “Pick whichever you like! Little brother me really wants to eat something fresh, so please pity me big brother!”

At that moment, Gou Fuqi saw a pair of hands so dazzling that they nearly blinded his eyes—

On the young man’s slender fingers, there were a total of twenty rings of different styles and materials. These rings ranged from gold to platinum, and diamonds to rubies, sapphires, emeralds, pearls, and more. It could be said that he had one of every style and material, making his collection incredibly complete.

Although these rings varied in design, they were all exquisitely crafted and undeniably luxurious, something any ordinary person could immediately recognize. In short, one word could sum it up: expensive.

Gou Fugui looked at the hands, then looked up at the rich young man. Just as the young man genuinely admired his fishing skills, Gou Fugui sincerely complimented him, saying, “Brother, you’re a real talent.”

This brother has probably already prepared for what he planned to do in the next apocalypse! And he even added some changes to it.

After all, the most he would wear were just ten gold rings[2].

The rich young man chuckled twice and said, “Oh, not at all. My family name is Jin Mantang, and we are just humble land farmers, with a modest inheritance, nothing more.”

When Gou Fugui heard his name, he couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows. FuguiMantang[3], He really seems to have some kind of fate with this rich guy.

“So brother, which one of these rings on my fingers do you like? You can pick any, I just want to eat some fresh fish.”

Since there are big pots of rice being sold in the gymnasium, it naturally means that they can cook small meals for other people. As long as you bring the fresh ingredients to them and give them a small processing fee or a bit of fish meat, this big chunk of fish could at least allow Jin Mantang to enjoy a hearty meal for two days.

Although each of the rings Jin Mantang wore on his hand was worth far more than the large fish head he was about to trade for, given the harsh weather and the uncertainty of how many more days he would have to stay cooped up in the gym, this kind of transaction didn’t seem too absurd.

Gou Fugui took another look at the hands filled with rings and chose the fiery red ruby ring without any guilt.

When he chose this ring, it was clear that there was a moment of pain on Jin Mantang’s face, but it was only for a second. Without saying a word, he swiftly took off the ring and slipped it onto Gou Fugui’s index finger.

“Ok brother, this fiery flame is yours now.”

When he purchased this ruby ring, he had spent a genuine fifty thousand yuan!

But what did fifty thousand matter now? After the storm last night had demolished his villa, Jin Mantang had come to a stark realization: from now on, money would be worthless. Food and staying alive were the only things that truly mattered.

So, when he fled, he didn’t even bother to take his black card or any cash. Instead, he quickly put on all his rings and jewelry, and even tucked three gold bars into his underwear.

He planned to use these items to trade for better supplies while they still held value.

Of course he knows that giving one ring for a chunk of fish is a big loss, but it’s better than not being able to trade for anything later.

He sincerely hoped that there wouldn’t come a time when not even gold bars could be exchanged for a single loaf of bread.

Jin Mantang’s decisive and swift actions made Gou Fugui take a second glance at him. He has a strong feeling that he will survive until the end of the disaster.

Without wasting any time, Gou Fugui said, “Let’s go, follow me to the canteen, and I’ll have the chef cut the fish head for you.”

When he saw the tuna, Jin Mantang immediately cheered up. His eyes were locked onto the tuna’s head, his gaze almost as if he were looking at a lover with passion.

With Jin Mantang’s successful trade, the wealthy individuals who followed him gained confidence. One by one, they quickly followed ‘Beauty’ Fugui into the canteen, each stating their offers and the parts of the fish they were interested in.

“Hey, little brother, how about I pay you 1,000 yuan for a piece of tuna belly? Not much, just two pounds will do! My kids have been a bit irritable these days, and the food in the canteen isn’t fresh enough. I just want some fish to help them out.”

“Hey, bro! How about 2,000 yuan for the fish tail? My old man’s been feeling unwell lately, and if he doesn’t eat something nutritious soon, he won’t hold up. As his son, I can’t just stand by and watch him suffer! I only need the tail to make soup, can we do that?”

“Mr Handsome! I didn’t bring any cash, but how about I trade you the gold necklace around my neck for a few pounds of fish? I paid almost ten thousand for this necklace! Five pounds of fish meat, is that okay?”

As Gou Fugui carried the tuna deeper into the gymnasium, more and more people came up, wanting to buy some fish. Eventually, some even tried to get the fish for free, arguing that one person can’t possibly finish such a large fish alone.

The middle-aged couple who said this were met with a highly mocking glance from Gou Fugui, who then completely ignored them and continued walking.

But the couple seemed to have not noticed the look at all and continued to follow Gou Fugui and his group into the canteen at a rapid pace.

In the canteen, the chef had already received the news from his apprentice that a large tuna had been caught. He was quite pleased and had been sharpening his knife for several minutes now.

In fact, there is still plenty of food stored in the gymnasium. However, due to the uncertainty of how long the storm would last, coupled with the larger-than-expected number of people seeking refuge, the daily meals had to be strictly controlled.

Everyone could be full, but the idea of eating fish or meat was out of the question. The opportunity for a special meal like this, with extra portions being made, was something the chef was quite eager for.

When Gou Fugui dropped the tuna heavily on the chopping block board, the fish twitched it’s tail twice in retaliation.

To be honest, Gou Fugui only managed to catch this tuna due to its bad luck. It got swept ashore by the tsunami and disoriented from the storm. Unfamiliar with the complexity of human streets, the tuna had just managed to swim out of the bushes where it had gotten stuck when it collided headfirst into a parked car.

The loud noise attracted Gou Fugui’s attention. Taking advantage of the fact that the fish is still dizzy, Gou Fugui activated his sea otter instincts and smashed the fish in the head with a brick.

When the brick landed precisely on the tuna’s head, Gou Fugui’s third innate skill, “Master of Hammering,” was triggered. With the damage boost, the tuna collapsed, still alive but unable to struggle any longer.

“Wow! This young man killed the fish with a brick! Look at that, the head’s got a nice square dent,” the chef remarked, while happily inspecting the tuna from top to bottom, then complimenting Gou Fugui’s brick technique.

As the chef spoke, he expertly positioned his knife just below the fish’s head and was just about to cut, but Gou Fugui interjected, “Chef, could you cut another ten centimeters lower?”

After all, this was a fish head traded for a ruby ring, so it should have a bit more meat on it.

Jin Mantang, hearing this, broke into a wide grin and patted Gou Fugui’s shoulder with a hand that, even without one of its rings, still dazzled the eyes. “You’re a good person, brother!”

And with that, Jin Mantang got himself a huge fish head, weighing at least twenty pounds.

Afterward, Gou Fugui sold the fish tail and a portion of the belly to the two buyers with elderly family members and children. As for the rest of the fish meat, he decided not to sell the small portions anymore.

“Master, could you cut the best parts of the tuna for me? The rest can be sold to the canteen. They can use it to give more people an extra meal, and as for the money, just make sure it’s not given away for free.”

The chef, who had initially planned to buy some fish, now felt a sense of appreciation for the young man with a ponytail, who was both straightforward and fair with his pricing.

“You’re a straightforward person, so we won’t try to take advantage of you. We know we can’t buy the fish at market price right now, and giving you money would feel like we’re shortchanging you.”

“How about this? We’ll trade you three apples, four coconuts, and two pineapples for the fish. Fruits are scarce now, too.”

Gou Fugui didn’t haggle at all and immediately agreed with a nod.

As the chef had said, money had become useless in the current situation, so trading seemed fairer.

In the end, Gou Fugui received a large plate of expertly made tuna sashimi from the chef, and he took the rest of the tuna meat, along with the sashimi, back to his tent. The fruits could be picked up anytime from the canteen.

The middle-aged couple who had been following Gou Fugui hoping to get a better deal, were visibly displeased when they saw that he had sold all the fish to the canteen. The woman, in particular, made her move and tried to snatch the sashimi.

However, her hand was swiftly grabbed by another, long, strong hand. The woman immediately began screaming at the top of her lungs:

“What are you doing?! Why are you grabbing me? Are you some kind of pervert?! Someone, come quick! There’s a man harassing me!”

Xie Tianlang, observing the woman expertly throwing a tantrum and attempting to smear him with false accusations and then he glanced at the man next to her, who was preparing to swing a punch. With a casual flick, he sent the woman crashing into the man’s arms. His eyes narrowed with a mocking look as he said:

“Auntie, don’t go around causing trouble.”

“And even if I were to harass someone, it would be someone like him.”

‘Beauty’ Fugui, who Xie Tianlang was pointing at, glared at him once and walked away with the fish.

He doesn’t want to be like a wolf[4].

    Footnotes:

    1. 6: Number 6 is a chinese slang because the number 6 (六, pinyin: liù) in Mandarin sounds like "slick" or "smooth" (溜, pinyin: liū).
    2. ten gold rings: Because ten fingers and each finger on ring
    3. FuguiMantang: "Riches and honor fill the hall" refers to a life of great wealth and prosperity
    4. wolf: In Xie Tianlang's name, the "Lang" means wolf, so the author did some word play here
