FGCT CH26.1 Some people are worse than dogs.
by LuoThe appearance of the wolf pack was sudden and silent. They seemed to want to launch a quick and ferocious surprise attack, but their plan was disrupted when the alert police dogs sniffed out their scent.
Thus, the silent raid turned into a chaotic battle when humans’ screams mixed with the howls of the wolves, marking the start of the fray.
It was at this moment that Gou Fugui realized the faint, fishy smell he had noticed while collecting firewood was the scent of the wolf pack. However, having lived in the steel and concrete city for so long, even in the mountains, he couldn’t immediately think of wolves being in the area, let alone a whole pack of them.
In the minds of modern humans, it is assumed that humans have already claimed the entire world, reaching the top of the food chain.
All animals have been driven into hiding, some even driven to extinction, so it’s only natural to believe that when humans appear, especially in groups, all other life should be afraid of them and retreat.
But at this moment and place, no one would think that way.
As the storm raged across the world, and survival became increasingly difficult, not only did the order of human society start to collapse, but the gap between the poor and the rich was slowly being bridged. The life order of the entire world began to shift toward true fairness—
Survival of the fittest.
The only ones who could distinguish between prey and predator were the “weak” or the “strong.”
The hungry wolves naturally had the advantage of wild instincts when facing a group of people who had been sheltered in a peaceful greenhouse for too long—
Even though the police dog immediately engaged the lead wolf in combat, even though Gou Fugui quickly kicked another hungry wolf that pounced, even though Xie Tianlang, Qin Feng, Lu Hu, and Song Sanchuan all rushed to face the oncoming wolf pack, the people still fell into uncontrollable panic due to the brutal wolves.
Between life and death lies great terror.
Thus, between life and death, human nature is most easily revealed.
Dozens of wolves charged from different directions, attacking their targets without any restraint, hunting them down in the chaotic crowd.
In one family, the father yelled and pushed his child away just as a hungry wolf was about to bite his son, offering his own arm to the vicious wolf.
The wife screamed uncontrollably nearby, but at the same time, an overwhelming pain and rage burst from her eyes. In that moment, she almost forgot her fear. She grabbed the heaviest suitcase she could find and swung it violently at the hungry wolf, screaming and cursing:
“Let go of my husband! Let go of him!!”
The son, who had been pushed away and protected by his father, was initially frozen in terror and shock. But after a brief moment, he saw his father’s right arm covered in blood and his mother acting like a madwoman. In an instant, his eyes turned red. Without thinking, he screamed and charged at the vicious wolf, slamming his head hard into its waist!
The wolf finally loosened its grip from the heavy blow from the suitcase and the sharp pain in its waist, but it still clung to a bloody piece of flesh in its mouth.
The three of them—father, mother, and son—faced off in a silent standoff with the hungry wolf. However, not far from them, another wolf dragged away a young child who was still faintly struggling.
The child’s mother cried out in a heart-wrenching scream, while the father and grandmother angrily shouted and hit the woman.
“Why didn’t you save Xiao Bao?! The wolves came, how could you hide? Didn’t you think you should’ve picked him up right away?!”
The woman was beaten and scolded by her husband and mother-in-law. At first, she was overwhelmed by grief and did not resist. But when her mother-in-law slapped her again, she snapped.
She blocked the slap and hit back with fury: “You two still blame me?! You two bastards, how dare you blame me?!”
“Just now, I was getting something for Xiao Bao, and you were the one holding him! You’re the child’s grandmother! Why did you throw him away?! Didn’t you love him the most? But you used him to block the wolf!!”
Then she started to lash out at her husband like a madwoman, “You’re a man! You’re Xiao Bao’s father! How could you run faster than me?!”
“You’re a man!”
The mutual accusations within this family lasted only a brief moment, as soon another hungry wolf pounced at them.
Thus, all the arguing turned into screaming, causing the family to fall apart once again.
Such scenes of arguing, rescuing, fleeing, and facing danger continued to repeat endlessly throughout the night.
In this rainy night, it tested the most brutal of human hearts.
Soon, the tunnel was filled with the scent of blood, and with this scent, there came a rhythmic and powerful wolf’s howl.
When the white-haired Gou Fugui’s stick knocked down the third wolf, he heard this howl.
His body tensed in an instant, as though his bloodline told him he was facing the most formidable enemy. He lifted his head toward the direction of the sound.
At this moment, Xie Tianlang also abandoned the fourth wolf corpse at his feet. His eyes, sharp and fierce like the wolf pack in the dark, slowly lifted to look in the same direction.
He met a pair of deep, emerald-green beast eyes.
In that brief moment of eye contact, it felt like two leaders silently appraising and competing against each other.
Both sides were evaluating each other’s strength.
Then, the deep, rhythmic howl of the wolf rang out again. The wolf pack, which had previously attacked randomly and without coordination, suddenly changed its method of attack.
The wolves actually began to actively avoid Gou Fugui, Xie Tianlang, Qin Feng, Lu Hu, Song Sanchuan, and the others. They even ignored people like Lu Chengfeng, the train police conducter, Sister Hua and her husband—those who might not be able to kill them but could at least pose a threat and stand their ground.
Instead, the wolves formed small groups of two or three, targeting the helpless—the ones who only knew how to scream and flee, the weak elderly, women, and children. Of course, if a man was cowardly and useless enough, the wolves didn’t spare him just because he was male.
“F**k! Boss! Have these wolves evolved or something?! They’re going for the easy targets!!” Song Sanchuan shouted in disbelief as he watched two wolves dash right past him. He took a couple steps to chase them but couldn’t even get close to their tails.
Clearly, the alpha wolf had no intention of letting go of the easy prey delivered to its door. It wanted to lead its pack to get more food and survive.
So it ordered the pack to avoid the tough bones they couldn’t chew and to lock onto only the flesh they had their eyes on!
In the tunnel, the wolves were chasing people—and behind the wolves, there were also humans trying to hunt them.
The alpha wolf’s strategy was clearly working. Within a short time, more piercing, heartbreaking cries rang out—evidently, more people had been dragged off by wolves, beyond saving.
“Damn it! A bunch of useless cowards!”
After losing yet another wolf that deliberately avoided him, Gou Fugui cursed furiously. Things couldn’t go on like this. The tunnel clearly gave the wolves the upper hand in surprise attacks and mobility, and people scattering in panic only made themselves easier targets.
Fugui, fed up and furious, bellowed, “Stop f**king running around! Get over here—I’ll cover you!”
After that, he turned and shouted toward Lu Chengfeng and the train police, “Stop chasing wolves over there! You come too! Just huddle together and defend—what’s so hard about that?!”
Fugui’s angry roars echoed unusually clear in the tunnel, and in an instant, snapped the panicked crowd out of their mindless fleeing.
Lu Chengfeng and all those who still had the strength to fight quickly converged toward the call. When they finally gathered together, they formed a barrier—a wall that symbolized strength and courage.
Everyone else rushed toward them, as if chasing the last lifeline they had left.
The wolves followed the movement of the crowd, but this time, their hunt was fiercely interrupted.
“Woof! Grrr!”
Blackback crouched low, its sharp fangs stained with wolf fur and blood. It lunged at a hungry wolf chasing a young girl, quickly engaging in a savage tangle of bites and snarls.
At this moment, Blackback [1]looked utterly terrifying, each attack carried a desperate, reckless ferocity. And yet, the girl it had just saved turned to look back, and for the first time since the chaos began, felt a sense of safety.
Nearby, the young ticket inspector with a chunk missing from his lower leg was running toward the group, face pale. He had been ambushed earlier—one of the wolves suddenly bit into his calf. Though he had managed to fight back with everything he had, swinging his heavy bag and driving the wolf off, his leg had suffered a brutal wound.
Now, injured as he was, he could no longer keep up with the others. As panicked people screamed and ran past him, the young inspector’s face twisted into a bitter smile.
But his misfortune wasn’t over yet. As he struggled to keep moving forward, someone suddenly slammed into him hard from behind. Under normal circumstances, it might have only made him stumble—but with his leg injured and balance already unsteady, the impact sent him toppling sideways.
He crashed to the ground in a heap.
Gritting his teeth in pain, he lifted his eyes, and when he saw who had hit him, his helplessness and pain turned into seething rage—
It was that couple.
At that moment, the rich girl—perhaps feeling she was close to reaching safety—seemed noticeably less panicked. She even turned her head to glance behind her.
The instant her eyes met those of the young ticket inspector, she tilted her head slightly, shrugged, and gave a sheepish smile.
She hadn’t meant to knock him over. She’d just been running too fast and hadn’t seen him in front of her.
The veins on the young inspector’s hand bulged with fury—God knows how badly he wanted to haul himself up and slap her right then and there. But before he could move, he heard the chilling sound of footsteps approaching from behind—slow, deliberate, and unmistakably belonging to wolves. He could even smell the rank, bloody stink of them in the air.
