    Loves Balance

We will be getting our second creature from our cute creature handbook.

Jin Mantang is a smart person, and smart people don’t speak nonsense.

So, after hearing Jin Mantang’s words, Gou Fugui narrowed his eyes and thought for a moment before directly asking the key question:

    “What did you hear?”

Jin Mantang’s thick eyebrows and big eyes lit up instantly, and without hesitation, he shared everything he had heard and guessed.

“It was actually a coincidence,” Jin Mantang said with a smile. “This afternoon, when you came back, remember how I blocked you for a moment? While doing that, I noticed that a few guys in the tents to my right were all watching you.”

“That wouldn’t mean much by itself—everyone’s got curiosity, right? But half an hour ago, when I went to the bathroom and passed by those guys’ tents, I heard them talking about you.”

“Well, not necessarily you specifically. They were talking about ‘the kid who caught the big fish.’”

“But in the past two days, the only ones who caught a big fish were that fierce captain and you, Fugui. Personally, if they were really planning to go after someone, well…”

Jin Mantang paused and then added, “Wouldn’t people usually go for the softer persimmon[1]?”

“So I got a little curious. I crouched outside their tent and secretly listened in for a bit. More or less, they’re planning to follow you out tomorrow and find a less crowded place to ‘do something.’”

“Honestly, I’m not sure if what I heard was completely accurate. But since I heard it—no matter how small the possibility—I had to come and give you a heads-up.”

Building good relationships was key to surviving longer, and Jin Mantang understood that well. Besides, he genuinely found this Fugui brother quite likable.

Gou Fugui closed his eyes briefly, recalling what he could. He vaguely remembered the men to the right of the first row of tents from this afternoon.

He hadn’t paid attention to their faces, but his impression was that they were all well-built, strong men.

Gou Fugui let out a soft scoff.

No matter the world, there were always those who wanted to take without working for it—scum who relied on robbery and force.

“Thanks, brother. Whether their target is me or not, I owe you for this one.”

As he spoke, he reached for a large net bag in the corner of his tent, half-hidden under a pile of clothes. Without hesitation, he pulled out a can of milk powder, two packs of sausages, and a five-pack of instant noodles, stuffing them into Jin Mantang’s hands.

“A token of gratitude—I can’t have you making this trip for nothing.”

Even if Jin Mantang had just been casually passing on a reminder, the fact that he had come meant he had helped him. And giving out such information also carried its own risks.

Jin Mantang was momentarily stunned, his arms suddenly full. But he quickly snapped out of it, and with equal straightforwardness, he pulled a diamond ring off his finger and shoved it into Gou Fugui’s hand.

“Heh, I told you—I was just here to give a heads-up. If we’re trading, we’re trading fair.”

“Brother, don’t refuse. These rings on my hand are getting less and less valuable. And ever since those guys showed up, wearing so many of them is making me a little uneasy. It’s fine for now, but if time drags on, they might end up causing trouble for me.”

“Rather than letting them fall into the wrong hands, I’d rather give one to you as a decoration.”

As Jin Mantang spoke, he flashed a sincere smile. “No need for formalities between us brothers. I hope we can make it through this together.”

From the way Gou Fugui had handed over supplies without hesitation, it was clear that this striking long-haired young man wasn’t the type to sell out his teammates when it mattered. On top of that, he was smart and capable—making a friend like this was definitely not a loss.

Gou Fugui also smiled. His thoughts aligned with Jin Mantang’s, and he couldn’t help but feel that their shared fortune-related names were a fitting coincidence.

“Let’s both make it through this.”

After saying this, Gou Fugui paused for a moment before adding, “If you get the chance, prepare some inflatable flotation devices. Also, if this place gets flooded and you don’t know where to go… you can follow…”

As he spoke, his fingers tapped twice toward Tent 224 on his right. There was no need for him to say Xie Tianlang’s name aloud—Jin Mantang immediately understood.

Jin Mantang’s expression first turned a little gloomy, then he let out a wry smile and nodded. “Thanks for the heads-up, brother. But… will things really get that bad?”

The worst he had imagined was being stuck in the safe zone for ten days or so. No matter how severe the typhoon or tsunami, could it really go on long enough to drown an entire city?

But now, standing before him was someone who shattered his self-assurance. Those eyes, glowing faintly in the darkness yet incomparably calm, woke him up.

That settled it—starting tomorrow, he needed to gather more useful supplies.

With a heavy heart, Jin Mantang left.

For the next hour, Gou Fugui remained awake, deep in thought about how to handle the potential crisis.

Perhaps because the apocalypse had only just begun, the remnants of unbroken order still struggled to mask the cruelest and most terrifying aspects of this new world. This illusion of control had made him a little careless, despite his advantage. But tonight, Jin Mantang’s words had reminded him—

    This was no ordinary world.

This world was heading toward destruction.

And when pushed to the brink, the most terrifying thing wasn’t just the crumbling sky and earth—it was the desperate will of fellow survivors.

Even if he could survive the apocalypse by transforming into a sea otter and floating through eternity, in times of desperation, a sea otter was nothing more than a lump of fresh meat in human eyes.

Gou Fugui raised his left hand and tapped his wrist lightly twice.

In his mind, a massive golden handbook materialized.

At that moment, the handbook was open to its first page, where a plump little sea otter lay floating on the water, rubbing its face with tiny paws—looking absolutely adorable.

Gou Fugui gazed at it for a moment, then reached out and turned the page.

The second page revealed a majestic husky with striking blue eyes and the classic three-flame eyebrow markings. This creature possessed an incredibly handsome appearance and an aura of dominance—as long as it kept its mouth shut. But Gou Fugui knew all too well how disastrous it could be when it started wreaking havoc and destroying homes.

Expressionless, he flipped past the second page.

Next came a large fox face with a mocking expression, as if ridiculing his naïveté and weakness.

Gou Fugui clenched his molars and swiftly turned the page. There was no way he could defeat enemies with just a sarcastic face, right?

He continued flipping through the pages, each revealing another utterly useless but bizarrely adorable creature: a fainting goat, a screaming prairie dog, a “Master of Speed” sloth, a naturally mischievous raccoon… one after another, each more impractical than the last.

The more he flipped, the more his face darkened. The deeper he looked, the more despair crept in.

    And then—whoosh!

    Finally, he saw hope.

Compared to the cute but utterly useless creatures before, this one was the undisputed king of the adorable yet formidable. A true boss among oddities.

Silver hair, white cape, a lifetime spent in battle.

If it wasn’t fighting, it was on its way to a fight. It lived by the motto: Fearless of life and death—if you dare, we brawl!

Gou Fugui stared at the image of the creature, its little chin slightly raised, its black beady eyes filled with contempt and defiance. Sleek black fur, a striking white stripe atop its head—the unmistakable form of a honey badger.

He had never found this creature so magnificent before.

In the water, his sea otter bloodline gave him an advantage over most ordinary people. But on land, his safety was far less guaranteed.

No matter. It was time for Honey Badger Fugui to make his debut.

When it came to brawling, the great honey badger had never backed down!

And so, on the third night in the sports arena safe zone, Fugui the Beauty unlocked his second apocalyptic creature.

    He had a restful sleep.

The next morning, he packed his food and large net bag before leaving the gynasium.

Three minutes after he stepped outside, three men from the right-side tents in the front row—whom Jin Mantang had been silently keeping an eye on—casually shouldered their bags and followed.

Jin Mantang frowned, hoping his Fugui brother wouldn’t get caught by them.

It was obvious that their target was him.

At that moment, Jin Mantang noticed another person grabbing a net bag and heading out.

The man was tall, with a strong yet perfectly proportioned physique. His movements were casual, but his back remained straight as a board, exuding an unshakable sense of pressure.

“…A real beast,” Jin Mantang muttered under his breath.

Jin Mantang murmured quietly, then inexplicably felt that this strong, heroic man was heading toward the three people who wanted to take advantage of the situation and loot.

Gou Fugui’s main goal today was to find medicine and life-saving equipment, and it would be great if he could also find an inflatable raft.

However, perhaps due to his bad luck, after spending the entire morning and part of the afternoon, he had visited two water-related stores according to the map but couldn’t find an inflatable raft. Instead, he found two inflatable life rings, a high-quality surfboard, and some water-specific rescue whistles, flashlights, and other items.

Along with some sealed food he had conveniently collected, he considered himself fairly well-loaded.

Gou Fugui checked the time on the waterproof watch he had retrieved—it was 3 PM. He decided to swim back, but first, he would take a detour to another outdoor goods store to see if he could find an inflatable raft in their warehouse.

Once again, however, he didn’t find the raft. Instead, at a luggage store, he managed to get a large waterproof suitcase. He packed all his newly gathered items into the suitcase and started swimming back, pulling it behind him.

Half an hour later, Gou Fugui could already see the gymnasium from where he was. This small park was a necessary passage to the stadium, and because the overall terrain was relatively high, the water only reached up to Gou Fugui’s calves.

Ahead of him, in a pavilion in the park, sat three men munching on potato chips, spicy strips, and sausages.

Oh, and a can of milk powder, the “Niuhua” brand.

    Gou Fugui: “…”

He had a feeling that something was off today, that it was all too calm.

Turns out these people knew how to lie in wait, using the strategy of “waiting for the rabbit” and “letting the others do the work.”

“Bro, you finally brought our box back. Thanks, just leave the box here, and you can go.”

The man with the most muscular build and a face full of stubble grinned at Gou Fugui and immediately started babbling nonsense.

Gou Fugui looked around. The heavy rain limited his vision, but at least there was no one else in sight that he could make out.

    “What if I don’t?”

The three men in the pavilion weren’t surprised at all when they heard this. Instead, they all sneered and sprang up with lightning speed, rushing toward Gou Fugui without saying a word.

“Then don’t blame us for being rude!”

It was just a long-haired pretty boy. He actually thought he could go head-to-head with the three brothers?!

Gou Fugui coldly sneered as he watched the three men charging toward him.

He raised his right hand and sharply slapped his left wrist. In the midst of the heavy rain, his expression and aura suddenly changed—

[Honey Badger Fugui: I’m the fiercest on the African continent!]
