    Chapter 13: Ex-Partner

The person had a head of black hair, with a skin tone as smooth and lustrous as white jade. Their round, blunt eyes were complemented by a small, delicate nose, and their plump, rosy lips seemed soft and inviting. Their innocent appearance made them look naive and pure.

They were a very beautiful omega.

However, their tone was far from pleasant. “Who are you?” Perhaps due to their looks, even when the omega frowned, it seemed like they were pouting.

Zhou Zheng closed the door and took a couple of steps inside, retorting, “And who might you be?” He then sat down on the sofa.

The omega’s brows furrowed even more, and their lips pursed tightly. They looked as if they had been wronged, but their words were anything but polite: “I asked you first.” With that, they casually propped their legs up on the desk, an arrogant and rude gesture.

Zhou Zheng’s brow twitched slightly, and his tone carried a warning: “Take your feet down.”

The omega initially dismissed the command, but the alpha’s presence in the air made them feel pressured to comply. They reluctantly pulled their legs back and sat properly.

They bit their lip and muttered discontentedly, “What a nerve, scolding me like that.”

Every word reached Zhou Zheng’s ears, but he chose to ignore it and sat on the sofa, waiting for Lu Fangchi to return.

The omega was quiet for only a couple of minutes before starting to fidget again, making quite a commotion and producing an unpleasant “crackle” sound. They roughly flipped through the documents on the file organizer and tossed them onto the desk. Then, they opened the drawers and rummaged through them as if searching for something, turning the once tidy and organized workspace into a mess.

Zhou Zheng abruptly stood up and walked over to the omega, tapping the desk with a curled finger. His eyes gleamed menacingly as he sternly ordered, “Stop it! Don’t go through things randomly!”

The omega, seemingly deaf, continued to search through the documents without paying attention.

Just as Zhou Zheng was about to stop the omega, they pulled out a piece of paper from the last drawer and slapped it onto the desk, looking up triumphantly and saying, “You asked who I am, didn’t you?” Their expression was full of smug defiance.

Zhou Zheng looked down along the omega’s finger and saw a five-inch photograph. The picture featured two main subjects: Lu Fangchi and the omega.

What was most significant about the photo was its content. Judging by the setting, it was taken in a café. The two were sitting very close together. The omega was pouting and giving a thumbs-up with one hand, while Lu Fangchi wasn’t looking at the camera but rather at the omega, a smile playing on his lips.

The relationship between the omega and the alpha was self-evident.

Zhou Zheng’s breathing hitched, and his hand clenched into a fist at his side, but his face remained expressionless. His tone was indifferent as he said, “Ex?”

The first round of confrontation ended in a draw.

The omega, who had been hit where it hurt, averted their gaze for a moment before puffing out their chest and making bold claims: “Yes, but we’ll be back together soon,” they slapped the photo again, “He still keeps my picture!”

Zhou Zheng’s eyes darkened, his cheeks hollowed out, and he clenched his back teeth.

“So don’t meddle in things that don’t concern you. New here, aren’t you? Our relationship can be whatever we want it to be, and he won’t mind,” the omega waved their hand and picked up the photo again, examining it carefully before tapping it down with satisfaction. Their gaze fell on the jewelry box nearby, and they noticed it for the first time.

Was it for them? The omega thought wishfully, reaching out to touch it.

Sensing the omega’s intention, Zhou Zheng quickly and forcefully pressed down on the jewelry box, preventing it from being opened.

The omega, frustrated by the obstruction, frowned and looked up, intending to ask Zhou Zheng to let go. However, upon meeting Zhou Zheng’s gaze, they were taken aback by the hostile look in his eyes and the action of pressing down on the jewelry box.

Strange, this reaction didn’t make sense.

The initial retort upon entering, the scolding words, the indifferent attitude—all of these suddenly connected in the omega’s mind, revealing the true intentions of the other party.

No alpha would be so hostile towards them. If they were a rival, that would explain it. The omega’s big eyes shifted cunningly, and then they called out cheerfully to the air behind Zhou Zheng, “Brother Chi.”

The alpha fell for it, turning around and loosening their grip.

There was no one at the door, and Zhou Zheng realized they had been tricked the moment they felt the box being pulled away. Their palm landed on the desk as the jewelry box was taken from them. Zhou Zheng turned to the omega with a hint of anger, only to find that the omega had already opened the box and was playing with a very thin black woven silver bracelet.

“Give it back,” Zhou Zheng reached out.

The triumphant omega had already prepared for the counterattack, their small body sliding backward like an eel, out of Zhou Zheng’s reach.

They admired the thin bracelet in their hand, commenting, “Quite nice. It’s from the R brand’s classic weave series. Brother Chi has such slender wrists; it would suit him well.” The omega paused, tilting their head and adding, “But you don’t understand Brother Chi. He wouldn’t wear such a girly accessory. Give it to me instead.”

They were about to put it on their own wrist.

Zhou Zheng’s eyes turned bloodshot, and he strode around the desk, closing in on the omega.

The omega, still putting on the bracelet, retreated cunningly.

In their last dodge, they bumped into the swivel chair behind them and stumbled.

Zhou Zheng quickly reached out and grabbed the omega’s wrist to prevent them from falling.

But in the process, the bracelet slipped from the omega’s hand.

Zhou Zheng immediately crouched down to pick it up, but it wasn’t visible on the carpet. He felt along the edges but still couldn’t find it.

“The chain is too thin; it’s probably lost,” the culprit remarked nonchalantly.

Zhou Zheng pursed his lips, continuing to search with his head bowed, even awkwardly crawling under the desk.

The confined space clearly couldn’t accommodate his tall, 1.9-meter frame, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead. Zhou Zheng had to retreat from under the desk.

He squatted on the ground and continued to feel around. The serious expression on the man’s face, coupled with the sweat sliding down his nose, made him look handsome and much more vivid than Lu Fangchi’s aloof demeanor.

The omega’s eyes glanced down at the bulge between Zhou Zheng’s bent long legs…

    Tsk, impressive.

The omega was moved and patted Zhou Zheng’s broad shoulder, offering comfort: “I’ll just compensate for it…”

Before they could finish the sentence, pain shot through their wrist as Zhou Zheng grabbed it fiercely, glaring at them.

Zhou Zheng applied considerable force; the omega’s wrist was delicate and couldn’t withstand the pressure, feeling as if it would break. They winced in pain, exclaiming, “Let go!” and began to slap the alpha’s hand, producing a “slap-slap” sound.

Ignoring the reddening hand, Zhou Zheng, with bloodshot eyes, stood up while still holding the omega’s wrist.

He stared at the omega menacingly without a word. Seeing the mist forming in the omega’s eyes from the pain, he loosened his grip slightly.

His anger deflated as well. Forget it.

Just as Zhou Zheng was about to let go, he was forcefully pushed. He fell back into the swivel chair and looked up to see Lu Fangchi.
