The psychedelic lights fell on He Congshan’s contorted face, his lips twitching, “……Can you at least consider my life?”
Huoyuchuan nonchalantly replied, “You won’t die.”
He Congshan frowned and said, “What if his dad really takes a liking to me?”
Huoyuchuan glanced him up and down, “Old Man Yu isn’t senile yet.”
He Congshan was taken aback, then reacted with anger, “So you mean his dad would have to be senile to like me?”
Huoyuchuan said, “What else?”
“Shut up,” He Congshan retorted, “If it weren’t for my good looks, would this place’s business be so booming? Your money would have gone down the drain.”
“Oh,” Huoyuchuan said indifferently, “So what? His dad doesn’t like men anyway.”
He Congshan thought about it and realized that although he was handsome, it was precisely because he was a man that Yu Jinwan’s father didn’t approve of them being together.
After pondering for a while, he downed another bottle of alcohol and said to Huoyuchuan, “If I get killed by his dad, you’ll be seeing me in the middle of the night.”
Huoyuchuan replied, “No, I go to bed early.”
He Congshan: “……”
Lin Miao saw He Congshan storm out of the door with a bad expression and couldn’t help but ask Huoyuchuan, “What’s wrong with Boss He? He looks quite upset.”
Huoyuchuan said, “Probably going to confess.”
Lin Miao was startled, “Is he going to confess to Teacher Yu?” Shouldn’t he be happy then?
Huoyuchuan said, “More or less.” After all, they both had the same surname Yu.
“Where?” Lin Miao’s face was full of curiosity, “Can I go watch?”
“Don’t go,” Huoyuchuan said, “The scene is likely to be very chaotic.”
Chaotic? Lin Miao was puzzled. How could a confession be chaotic? It’s not like they were going to fight.
Lin Miao never found out how He Congshan’s confession went. As the New Year approached, he, Huoyuchuan, and Lin Jianxing went back to their hometown house to spend the holiday together.
On New Year’s Eve morning, Lin Miao was reluctant to get out of bed, burrowing in the quilt for a long time and not even wanting to eat breakfast.
Huoyuchuan walked over, ruffled his hair that was sticking out of the quilt, and said with a smile, “Didn’t you say last night that you wanted to paste the couplets? Not doing it anymore?”
Lin Miao hesitated, “But it’s so cold outside the quilt……”
Huoyuchuan took off his warm coat, got into the quilt, and covered him, holding him and asking, “Still cold?”
Lin Miao felt warm and snuggled up to Huoyuchuan, “Then are you cold?”
Huoyuchuan said, “If you hug me, I won’t be cold.”
Lin Miao said on purpose, “I won’t hug. Both my hands are pinned by you.”
Huoyuchuan reached under the coat to catch his hands.
Lin Miao dodged around, and Huoyuchuan accidentally tickled his stomach, making him laugh uncontrollably. They played around for a long time before finally getting up to paste the couplets. They found out the ladder was broken, so Huoyuchuan had to hold Lin Miao’s legs and lift him up to paste them.
This caused even more commotion, making Lin Jianxing shake his head.
In the afternoon, Lin Jianxing went out to buy things, and Huoyuchuan was in the kitchen preparing the New Year’s Eve dinner.
Lin Miao stood by the door, a bit surprised, “Huoyuchuan, you can cook?”
Usually, it was Aunt Chen who cooked, and Lin Miao had never seen Huoyuchuan in the kitchen before. He was a bit worried that Huoyuchuan might blow up the kitchen.
Huoyuchuan said, “I learned a bit from Aunt Chen.”
“How much is ‘a bit’?” Lin Miao asked worriedly, “Will we still be able to celebrate the New Year after eating?”
Huoyuchuan: “……”
When Lin Jianxing came back, he smelled the food as soon as he entered and then saw Lin Miao excitedly run out of the kitchen, saying to him, “Dad, Huoyuchuan can cook. He’s so amazing!”
Lin Jianxing: “……”
You’re so excited about cooking? If someone didn’t know, they’d think he could build a rocket.
This New Year’s Eve dinner was very satisfying for Lin Miao. Huoyuchuan said he learned a bit, but he made all the dishes Lin Miao liked, with a sweet taste that made Lin Jianxing drink a few more glasses of wine, complaining that it was too sweet.
Lin Miao also had a glass with him, getting a bit tipsy and turning red. He looked at Huoyuchuan, who seemed unaffected after several drinks. He suddenly felt it was unfair and reached out to pinch Huoyuchuan’s face, “Why aren’t you red……”
Lin Jianxing, drunk, encouraged him, “Pinch…… pinch harder, and he’ll turn red.”
Lin Miao pinched very gently, more like a caress. After hearing his dad’s words, he frowned and thought for a moment, asking Huoyuchuan, “Will it hurt?”
Huoyuchuan caught his hand on his cheek and smiled, “Then be gentle.”
Lin Miao nodded obediently.
Lin Jianxing was very disdainful, “Useless!”
Then he fell asleep on the table.
Huoyuchuan helped him back to the room to sleep, and when he came out, he saw Lin Miao lying on the sofa, holding a pillow and muttering to himself.
Huoyuchuan squatted down by the sofa and asked if he wanted to go back to bed.
“No,” Lin Miao said drowsily, “I want to wait for midnight.”
He counted on his fingers, “I need to send messages to Aunt Chen and Little Zheng, wishing them a happy New Year.”
“And to Boss He, send a few more, hoping he gives me a raise next year, hehe……”
He then thought of Yu Jinwan and asked, “Is Boss He spending the New Year with Teacher Yu?”
“I don’t know,” Huoyuchuan said, “Maybe with Teacher Yu’s dad.”
“Ah?” Lin Miao was confused for a moment and wanted to ask more, but then he heard the sound of fireworks outside the window, one after another, “boom” after “boom.”
He immediately forgot about He Congshan, “Huoyuchuan, I want to see the fireworks!”
He got up unsteadily and went to pull the curtains, open the window.
Cold wind rushed in, and Huoyuchuan took out a scarf to wrap around him, covering half of his rosy face, “You can see them without opening the window.”
Lin Miao shook his head, “It’s clearer this way.”
Huoyuchuan had no choice but to put his hands into the pockets of his overcoat to keep them warm.
Colorful fireworks bloomed not far away, circle after circle, dazzling and bright.
“Huoyuchuan,” Lin Miao said happily, “They’re so beautiful!”
Huoyuchuan “Hmm”-ed and said, “We’ll go set off some tomorrow too.”
“Okay,” Lin Miao’s eyes were smiling as he looked at him and suddenly said, “Huoyuchuan, I need to correct something.”
Huoyuchuan: “What is it?”
Lin Miao got closer to him, looked up slowly, and said, “Liking you is not just a little bit……”
He raised his hand and hugged the person in front of him, “Huoyuchuan, I really like you……”
The brilliant fireworks exploded loudly, lighting up the night sky as bright as day.
Huoyuchuan lowered his head and kissed him on the lips.
It seemed as if time had rewound, and the regrets of their separation years ago were finally mended. The young Huoyuchuan kissed his beloved under the fireworks.
“The best New Year’s gift,” he said, his eyes filled with uncontrollable joy as he rested his forehead against Lin Miao’s, “Happy New Year.”
Lin Miao smiled and hugged him back.
“Happy New Year.”
