“To explain how valuable this level range is—”

But Ye Woo-won decided to continue speaking anyway. In truth, there were quite a few players who used the couple system specifically to find someone to power-level their Gathering or Fishing. Of course, couple rings were expensive and even if you paired up, you still had to actually help the other person, so successful arrangements were rare.

“My Fishing level is in the 140s, and my Gathering is nearly max level 50, so if you gather herbs with me in the mountains, it’s insane. Do you know ginseng, wild ginseng? I practically brush my hand over a bush and they pop out, so you’d get tons of EXP. You know this, right? Ginseng and wild ginseng are ingredients for Doctors to craft top-tier Plus potions, so their market price is insanely high. And also—”

—“Shut up. Shut your mouth and go finish the damn fishing.”

Kisekki spoke in an icy voice.

—“I want to go fishing so badly I’m about to lose my mind.”

Floating above the murderous-looking Necromancer was still that tiny cute Lv.2.

He must really want to fish, right? Because judging from his voice alone, he sounded more like he was about to bury a body.

—“And if you say silver or gold one more time…”

Kisekki continued in a tone cold enough to drop the temperature below zero.

—“I’ll melt you down into a copper ingot.

The Dragon Knight’s beautiful glossy scales shimmered red or bronze depending on the angle. His voice sounded like he fully intended to pluck every scale, melt them down, and forge a literal copper bar—but that wasn’t how it landed in Ye Woo-won’s ears.

    “So you prefer rose gold.”

You should’ve said so earlier. Should he check if they had rose gold couple rings?

As if he understood everything, Ye Woo-won continued speaking. And at that moment, through the headset, he heard a faint snap, like something breaking.

    —“Go die.”

Kisekki has designated you as a target!

Kisekki’s already short patience had finally shattered.

(Guild) DPSdrop: Ugh the future groom and groom are fighting again
(Guild) Jinhee: Oh my god LOLOLOLOL
(Guild) ^Card^: If that’s not love, what is
    (Guild) HouseParty: Love.

Thud! Dodging Kisekki’s attacks brought Ye Woo-won right next to the other guild members.

Kisekki was chasing Yewoo Beomjeol like a madman. Skills rained down nonstop, but Ye Woo-won had memorized every Necromancer animation so thoroughly that he could read every move from the startup alone.

    (Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Oh dear;

He could casually type while defending effortlessly.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: Whoa…

The sudden PVP unfolding right in front of him left the newbie guild member HealingJjimo staring wide-eyed. Ye Woo-won brushed Kisekki’s skills aside and glanced at him briefly.

‘I guess, we won’t ever have to get tangled up with each other.’

He had never partied with the Melody race before, so he was curious. But since HealingJjimo was KongKang’s acquaintance, KongKang would obviously take care of him.

—“Where do you want your grave? Since you like fishing, want to be drowned?”

And most importantly… there was someone far more fun standing right beside him, so HealingJjimo didn’t occupy much of his attention.

“A burial together[1]? Will you be buried with me?”

    —“You little— get over here.”

But things never go the way you expect.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: Um… Yewoo-nim…

    Very soon afterward—

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: ..😭 I knew it… I did get scammed, right…?

    He became entangled with HealingJjimo.

    [SYSTEM]
Welcome back, Yewoo Beomjeol! Here are this week’s update notes!

‘This is kinda an awkward timing.’

2 p.m. on a weekday— a time when anyone with work or school would have a hard time logging in. But for someone unemployed, it was the perfect time to play games while digesting lunch. So, as always, Ye Woo-won launched the game again today.

    ‘Kisekki-nim must still be asleep.’

The truth is, he had done Territory War with Kisekki again this morning. Anyone else would’ve been exhausted and knocked out, but Ye Woo-won, who slept fewer hours than most, was fine with about four hours of sleep. And the reason he logged in now — at this awkward time when it was too early to go raiding — was obvious.

‘Time to catch up on quests and chores.’

When he played with Kisekki, they ended up doing nothing but Territory War and neglecting everything else he needed to do. At this rate, he’d obviously suffer for it later, so today he logged in at a time when Kisekki was unlikely to appear, planning to take care of the backlog in advance.

‘I should sort out all the rewards I’ve gotten so far, do some farming in the territory… hand everything that needs crafting over to the artisans and pick it up later. And then there are all the quests that piled up in the meantime…’

Biweekly updates, new quests, territory content, solo content, etc—

What is the biggest difference between an MMORPG and a simple FPS game? In an MMORPG, no matter how much free time a player has, the game always finds something for them to do. GoWV was also a game that never stopped feeding its players tasks, which was why Ye Woo-won had so much piled up.

‘Maybe I should start with farming.’

In the vast territory of the guild ranked second on the server, there was fertile land where Ye Woo-won could plant anything. Since he hadn’t been farming for long, his farming level was low, so for now he could only harvest crops up to three stars — but if he kept at it, he would eventually be able to obtain five-star crops too.

    ‘Today is corn.’

Corn is a crop that grows quickly in a short time. It was a bit of a hassle because he had to keep harvesting it, but it made raising his farming level easy. So, planning to farm corn while doing small quests, Ye Woo-won headed for the guild territory.

    Gaesae Territory Active Players ( 02 )

    …Hm?

    Ye Woo-won tilted his head.

    ‘At this hour?’

Because he’d been organizing what he needed to do, Ye Woo-won hadn’t yet checked which guild members were online. He was about to look at the online list and open the guild information window when he saw the long tail in front of him — and stopped moving.

    (Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Hello, HealingJjimo-nim.

The other online player was the new guild member, HealingJjimo. As he slowly approached, Healing Jjimo suddenly spun around, as if he hadn’t realized Ye Woo-won was there.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: N—ah;; h-hell…o!!!!

    He was clearly panicking.

(Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Why are you here alone?

Maybe he came to use the territory features? But he was standing in the middle of the territory looking completely spaced out. When Ye Woo-won stared questioningly, HealingJjimo opened his mouth cautiously.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: Ah… um…

Of course, he didn’t open up right away. After hesitating, his character jittered left and right as if anxious, and then he spoke cautiously.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: I was… uh… calling customer service… haha. So, I was looking for a quiet place…😭
(Guild) HealingJjimo: Oh no did I bother you??!?!?!
(Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Ah, no. I didn’t even know you were here.
    (Guild) HealingJjimo: Oh my gosh…!!! I didn’t greet you… I’m so sorry!!!!😭😭
(Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Ah haha, no worries.

When HealingJjimo jumped up and performed the full, desperate bowing motion, Yewoo Beomjeol also performed the same deep-bowing motion along with him.

‘He has a very cautious personality.’

Thinking of him as someone timid, Ye Woo-won asked,

(Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: By the way, what do you mean by customer service?

When Yewoo Beomjeol looked at him as if confused, Healing Jjimo finally explained everything from start to finish.

(Guild) HealingJjimo: It’s nothing big… I unlocked a new skill recently… and I bought a bracelet with an option that helps that skill… but I don’t have enough seashells to add extra options…

There were many accessories in-game: hats, necklaces, earrings, pendants, brooches…

Accessories vary widely depending on a character’s traits, but bracelets were not among those optional items. In GoWV, bracelets are mandatory accessories that every character must wear, and you can equip up to three of them.

Because bracelets can grant additional effects and options that strengthen each class’s unique skills, they were the most important accessory.

(Guild) Yewoo Beomjeol: Seashells… so the racial item of the Melody race?

Which was why bracelets were money-eaters — the product of pure grinding.

To grant options to a bracelet, you had to use the bound items specific to each race. For example, Dragon Knights use dragon scales, Martial Artists use redwood, Necromancers use soul fragments, and so on… Usually, you obtain them through raids or personal quests, but since they’re character-bound, you can’t buy them with money — you can only get them through labor. Of course, some classes do cooperative quests instead of solo ones.

‘That’s how the Mystics ended up forming alliances and becoming what they are today.’

That class was the Mystic. In the story, Mystics could only obtain their bound items through cooperative quests. That was also why Mystics were able to control and restrict one another.

(Guild) HealingJjimo: Yes 😭 I’m new so I don’t have many seashells. So I agreed to send cash to another Melody player in return for using their seashells to roll bracelet options for me…😭

Players who lacked racial items would often mail their bracelet to someone of the same race with plenty of items, letting them roll options in exchange for gold or cash.

    (Guild) HealingJjimo: But… they ran off with my bracelet 😭😭;;;

    …Hm?

    TL’s note:
It’s a bit late today since my eyes itch so much. I think it’s an allergic reaction. I’ll update more once I’m feeling better.

    Footnotes:

    1. burial together: The Korean words for water burial (수장) and for being buried together with the deceased (순장) sound almost the same. They differ by only one batchim. 순장 was historically practiced when a king died.
