by jj.ssasipscoffeeChapter 22: Big Cats and Little Cats Must Both Be Spoiled
“What made you laugh so happily?” Sade’s voice was tinged with joy. Seeing Lin You smile so freely made him feel delighted too. He reached out to touch Lin You’s forehead again, and after confirming the temperature was normal, he finally felt at ease.
“It’s nothing…” Lin You quickly returned to his calm demeanor, feeling a little awkward. How could he possibly tell Sade about the embarrassing thoughts that had just run through his mind?
“Yeah, I took Mimi out for a bit. She seemed a little bored, so I had someone prepare a climbing post and some toys. They should be arriving soon.”
“There’s no space in my place for those things.” The words slipped out of Lin You’s mouth automatically, but he immediately felt guilty. He hadn’t even considered getting Mimi any toys.
Growing up in the temple, Lin You had lived a very frugal life. Most of what he wore and used were hand-me-downs. He only ever had the bare necessities and never received any gifts just for fun. So the idea of giving gifts—especially to a pet—had never occurred to him.
Sade, on the other hand, had grown up surrounded by gifts to the point that they became commonplace. Eventually, even the finest things lost their novelty. But this experience also instilled in him good habits: he had little attachment to material things and was generous by nature. Because he received so much, giving came naturally to him. Accepting others’ kindness and sharing his own was second nature.
“If there’s no space there, we can just keep it here. This suite is mine, so I can put whatever I want in it.” Sade added matter-of-factly, “And when we go back, I’ll buy a smaller set for her to play with. Actually, we can keep one set in the dorm and another in my little villa. That way, no matter where Mimi stays, she won’t get bored.”
To Sade, loving Lin You also meant loving what Lin You loved. Big cat or little cat—they both had to be pampered. Just thinking about it made him feel good, and even Mimi looked extra cute today.
As if knowing she was the topic of discussion, Mimi strolled past their legs like she was surveying her territory. After a gentle rub against both of them, she hopped back up to her favorite spot by the window to enjoy the view.
“Someone’s coming soon to install everything, so we should tidy the room up a bit. For now, let me take you to eat. You haven’t had a proper meal in a long time, and that’s not good for your body. Come on!”
Sade, a little overly excited to have Lin You at his home, seemed more lively than usual. Seeing that Lin You had already showered and changed, he grabbed his hand and led him out of the room.
“You really scared me last night with that fever. I didn’t dare eat anything, so I just followed your example and drank a nutrient supplement. That stuff’s strange—no sense of fullness or satisfaction, but it keeps you from feeling hungry. You actually like that?”
“I’m sorry… It’s not that I like nutrient supplements. I’ve just grown up drinking them,” Lin You said calmly. “When I was young… I didn’t get to eat proper meals very often. And even after growing up, when I had the means to eat well, I didn’t really see the point.”
Even though Lin You wasn’t trying to garner pity, Sade still felt his heart ache. He had always assumed Lin You simply liked the taste—but it turned out to be a bad habit born from a lack of opportunity?! Was the temple really that stingy?
“Yuyou, I’ll make sure you eat well from now on. Even if one day I’m not around, I’ll find someone to cook for you for the rest of your life,” Sade suddenly stopped walking. To show his sincerity, he looked straight into Lin You’s eyes and made a solemn promise to his Omega. Even if he were to die in battle one day, he would ensure Lin You was taken care of through his own estate and resources.
“What nonsense are you saying?” Lin You frowned, looking at him seriously. He didn’t like Sade saying things like “not around anymore.” It was inauspicious. Even if it was a joke, he wouldn’t allow it.
“You’re right. It’s the New Year—let’s not talk about things like that. Let’s eat first, okay?”
“Mm.” Lin You really was hungry. He let Sade lead him by the hand as they walked down the corridor of the estate.
When they arrived at the dining room and saw the formal, grand dining table, Lin You suddenly lost his appetite…
“Father, Mother,” Sade greeted the two already seated at the long table.
“General, Madam,” Lin You greeted politely, his posture perfect.
“You’re here? We weren’t sure when you’d arrive, so we started eating first,” said Lady Resa, Sade’s mother, with a gentle smile.
Sade’s father nodded in acknowledgment but didn’t say much.
Once seated, Lin You found himself becoming nervous again. The ease and comfort he had felt just moments ago had completely vanished.
“Priest Lin You, welcome. Please make yourself at home. If there’s anything you need, feel free to let the butler know,” Lady Resa said with a warm smile.
“Thank you, Madam,” Lin You replied, glancing into her golden eyes—just like Sade’s. He returned a shy smile of his own.
Lady Resa had golden hair and eyes, and she hardly looked her age. Her figure was slender and graceful—if someone had said she was Sade’s older sister, no one would doubt it.
General Allen was quiet while eating. He didn’t speak much, but his demeanor was calm and composed. Even without saying a word, the authority of his position was palpable. Compared to him, Sade still seemed like a boy. Watching General Allen, Lin You could somewhat imagine what Sade might look like in his middle age.
Lin You made sure to eat with the utmost grace and composure. Lady Resa, too, was the picture of elegance—like she had stepped straight out of an etiquette manual. It felt more like attending a high-society banquet than a simple family meal. Probably the most relaxed person at the table was Sade himself.
After the meal, Sade’s parents left the table, giving the two young people space. Lin You finally felt a bit of relief. As he continued eating, he muttered internally: If Sade expects me to eat meals like this for the rest of my life… I’d honestly rather stick to nutrient supplements.
