Chapter 41: Seeking Answers

After their honeymoon, the two returned to their busy daily routines. If there was any difference, it was that their tacit understanding had deepened—they could better sync with each other’s rhythm and savor the small joys of everyday life.

Lin You published a paper in the temple titled “How Spiritual Power Can Influence Cognition.” It explored not only how mental power could be applied on the battlefield to manipulate enemies and assist Alphas in killing efficiency, but also aimed to reduce casualties among their own soldiers. In the paper, Lin You clearly laid out ethical guidelines and restrictions for conducting human experimentation—putting everything in black and white to prevent inhumane acts disguised as scientific research.

After discussion among the High Priest and several research-oriented senior clerics, the temple recognized the great practical value of the study, and it was approved for further development and real-world application. With this paper and his outstanding ability, Lin You passed the qualification review and was successfully promoted to a Senior High Priest.

Lin You didn’t feel particularly emotional about the promotion, but Sade was even more excited than he was. He thought Lin You was simply incredible. In his eyes—spoiled by Sade’s love—Lin You was practically the most amazing person ever.

After becoming a Senior Cleric, Lin You’s responsibilities became simpler. He mainly worked with the other senior clerics to maintain the Heavenly Canopy System and continue related research. His duties in medical services were no longer required. Rumor had it that many patients were upset about this, and Feng Qing was left to handle their complaints, running himself ragged to calm them down.

That afternoon, Lin You and Feng Qing were poring over ancient texts in the temple library.

“You said there’s a Heavenly Canopy System on Ice Tungsten Star? I’ve been there so many times and never noticed,” Feng Qing said, startled. He had visited Ice Tungsten Star since childhood, finding it peaceful and perfect for secluded mental training—yet he had never discovered such a secret.

“Yeah. It’s mainly because the energy there is highly compatible with my mental power. It feels like we’re connected somehow—I could sense it the moment I got close…” Lin You recalled the energy, and a wave of nostalgia washed over him.

“So, you suspect it has something to do with the temple?” Feng Qing asked.

“Right. After all, the Heavenly Canopy System was originally created by the High Priest. Its origin must be connected to the temple,” Lin You replied.

“Then why don’t we just ask Senior Priest Lian or the High Priest directly?” Feng Qing suggested.

“We can only go about it this way, but I still want to check if there are any related records,” Lin You said. He had a strong hunch—this matter had been buried for so long, it probably wouldn’t be something easily revealed. Especially since it might be connected to his background, he was even more reluctant to ask the High Priest directly.

“You really are something. That was supposed to be a honeymoon, not a criminal investigation,” Feng Qing groaned, unable to hold back.

“Hm? I thought it was really fun,” Lin You replied casually.

“Most people spend their honeymoon locked in a suite, madly marking each other! And you? Did you even complete the lifelong mark?”

“Do you even realize how popular your husband is right now? He’s literally every Omega’s dream Alpha in the capital. Even if they can’t be his official partner, there’s a long line of people signing up to be his mistress or secret lover. You should be more cautious and put in some effort,” Feng Qing scolded, utterly exasperated.

He heard gossip from Omegas all the time—hardly anyone didn’t want a piece of Sade. And for some reason, there were rumors going around that Sade and Lin You didn’t get along, and their bond was just for show. Every time he heard it, Feng Qing fumed with anger and wished he could drag the couple out in public to display their love.

“Sade wouldn’t do something like that. He’s a good person,” Lin You said calmly, completely unbothered by his friend’s warning. Sade wore the earring he gave him every single day, and Lin You could feel him through his mental power—that alone gave him immense peace of mind. But he wasn’t interested in explaining all that to others. As long as he knew how good Sade was, that was enough.

The two spent the whole afternoon seriously combing through records but found nothing. The temple’s archive only held some legends and notes about Ice Tungsten Star’s natural resources and scenic spots—nothing about the Heavenly Canopy System or any mysterious energy. Heavenly Canopy System materials were top-secret to begin with, and even what little was available made no mention of Ice Tungsten Star.

“Looks like there really aren’t any records…” Lin You murmured thoughtfully. More and more, he felt this was some kind of deep secret.

“It’s too strange,” Feng Qing muttered, frowning. He agreed that something didn’t add up.

“Feng Qing, thank you for accompanying me today. But please—don’t mention this to anyone. Pretend you don’t know anything for now,” Lin You said seriously.

“I understand. Don’t worry,” Feng Qing replied.

Although he didn’t look it from the outside, Feng Qing knew the importance of discretion. He could keep secrets without fail—and that’s exactly why Lin You had such a strong friendship with him.

After bidding Feng Qing goodbye, Lin You prepared to clock out. But just as he stepped out of the temple, he saw Sade standing there waiting for him.

“Sade…? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Lin You asked, surprised.

“I wanted to surprise you,” Sade grinned brightly. He was holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands—wrapped casually, but the blossoms were in full and beautiful bloom.

“Baby, this is for you.” Sade handed the bouquet to Lin You.

“Thank you… It’s so beautiful.” It was Lin You’s first time seeing this kind of flower. Each bloom was a soft, pale blue, small—less than ten centimeters wide. The five petals were layered delicately; the two on each side were slightly lighter in color, while the center petal, positioned just below the middle, had a deeper hue. The petal edges were wavy, and each blossom looked like a tiny butterfly resting along the main stem. One main stem held eight flowers in a spherical cluster, and this bouquet had six such clusters—adorably shaped and carrying a calm, elegant charm.

“These are baby blue-eyes^[1]. They’re the same color as your eyes,” Sade said, “but now that I’m seeing them next to you, I realize—they don’t even come close to your beauty.”

With his arm around Lin You’s shoulders, Sade spoke softly as they walked. Seeing how much Lin You liked the flowers, he felt his efforts hadn’t gone to waste. He had specifically asked the butler to search for the seeds everywhere. Now, a whole section of the garden at Starlight Manor had been replanted with baby blue-eyes. As luck would have it, they were in full bloom, spreading a sea of icy blue blossoms across the grounds.

“Thank you. I’m really happy,” Lin You said, now able to express his feelings to Sade naturally and openly.

“Come on, baby. Let’s head back to the manor and ask Father about Ice Tungsten Star.”

Lin You thought about how they’d found nothing in the records earlier and felt a bit disheartened. “…Alright.”

And so, the two of them boarded Sade’s starship together and set course for Starlight Manor.
