    Loves Balance

When Park Dong-sik opened the door to the inner quarters, the atmosphere was different from usual. He wondered what had happened and asked an employee, but they didn’t answer. When he asked them to call Madam Song, the employee was evasive. It was then. That he heard a crash from upstairs.

Sensing something was wrong, Park Dong-sik tried to go up, but Butler Yoon blocked his path.

“Please sit and wait. They’ll come down.”

    “Move aside.”

Park Dong-sik pushed past him and hurried upstairs when shouting erupted from the second floor. The voice belonged to none other than Chairman Kim. Beyond the yelling, harsh cursing could be heard, then moments later the door opened and surprisingly, Madam Song emerged. Wiping away tears, she froze when she saw Park Dong-sik.

“Why did you come up here?”

“Ah…I went to the hospital today.”

“Follow me,” she said as she passed by Park Dong-sik. Her attitude was as cold as ever, as if she hadn’t been crying at all. She went to the reception room across the way and had staff bring them tea. Her demeanor was remarkably composed for someone who had just been in an argument.

“What did they say at the hospital?”

Park Dong-sik pulled out a notebook from his pocket. He had strongly refused when they said it was a maternal health notebook, but the nurse had stuffed it in his pocket anyway. Madam Song tilted her head at seeing “OBO” written in the name field, but her expression changed when she saw the ultrasound images.

Unlike when looking at Park Dong-sik, there was warmth in her eyes and the corners of her mouth turned up slightly. It was unexpected. If nothing else, it looked like Madam Song had a strong attachment to blood relations.

    “Twins?”

“It’s not certain yet. They said they’ll know for sure in a week.”

“Twins would be nice. They can rely on each other.”

“Having two doesn’t mean they’ll rely on each other. Look at your sons.”

Madam Song glared sharply at him.

“And whose fault is it that they turned out that way?”

    “Yours?”

At his brazen attitude, Madam Song clicked her tongue.

“Let’s not discuss it. It just makes my mouth sore.”

“Madam Song, I have a question.”

    “What is it?”

“If I have twins, does the amount double?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Madam Song set down her teacup irritably.

“Do you not have even a speck of maternal instinct? Are you trying to conduct business with children involved?”

“I’m joking, just joking. You looked so upset. I was just trying to lighten the mood.”

Madam Song shook her head and clicked her tongue.

    “You’re exactly like your mother.”

Chairman Kim had said something similar before. He hadn’t understood then, but now he did. After all, he’d met Lee Hee-soo’s mother in person. He was someone completely devoid of affection for his child. Am I like that too? Park Dong-sik suddenly became curious about Lee Hee-soo’s mother.

“What similarities do I share with my mo- I mean, with him?”

“You don’t know? It was quite the talk around here.”

He should feel offended, but perhaps because he wasn’t really his mother, he felt nothing. If anything, it made him even more curious.

“Why? Did he meet lots of different men?”

“Are you pretending not to know?”

“I’m asking because I really don’t know. You know my memories were completely erased.”

“Hmm, you know your mother was an actor in his youth, right? It caused quite a stir when he suddenly retired. Rumors spread that he’d started a life with a beta, then years later he suddenly appeared as a congressman’s mistress. That was why I opposed this marriage right from the start. Wasn’t that why you hated your mother more too?”

How would I know when he’s not even my real mother? It was surprising enough that he was an actor, but to think he lived with a beta and then married a congressman…

“He lived a very eventful life.”

Madam Song snorted at his sarcasm.

“You talk as if it’s someone else’s problem. Anyway, don’t expect more money just because it’s twins. And why aren’t you taking prenatal education classes? How much did you whine to Jun-han that he came to me and told me to stop it. Manipulating your husband from behind, that’s a bad habit.”

“Manipulation? It’s all because of love.”

Madam Song’s hands trembled as she held her cup, and Park Dong-sik leaned back into the sofa, keeping his distance in case she might splash it on his face. Madam Song sighed and called her secretary. Soon after, her secretary brought two small boxes.

    “What’s this?”

“Medicine. It’s from the same place as before, so take it regularly.”

“Ah, mother-in-law. The more I see you, the more tsundere you are. Do you know what tsundere means?”

“Be quiet and go. Talking with you gives me a headache.”

Park Dong-sik nodded his head. Yes, yes, this disrespectful daughter-in-law will disappear. As he stood up, he exclaimed “Ah!” and pulled out a handful of candy from his pocket, placing it next to Madam Song’s teacup. When Madam Song looked at him questioningly, he winked.

“Eat these. Sweets are the best when you’re feeling shitty.”

    “Watch your mouth!”

    “I’m going.”

As he headed back to the annex, darkness had already fallen outside. Just then, a black car pulled in. It was Kim Jun-han. Park Dong-sik stopped in the middle of the corridor, took a deep breath, and slapped both his cheeks. Get it together, Park Dong-sik.

Inside, there was already another guest who had arrived before Kim Jun-han.

    “Hello, sister-in-law.”

Kim Tae-han waved casually while leaning on the sofa. He was in a suit, presumably having come straight from work, which was enough to catch Park Dong-sik’s interest. Meanwhile, footsteps could be heard from the entrance as Kim Jun-han entered. He was also in a suit.

Park Dong-sik licked his lips looking at the two alphas. Why did you have to be born as brothers, making my heart ache? If you weren’t, we could have had a nice relationship together.

    “You’re here? Sit down.”

Kim Jun-han took off his coat with his characteristically indifferent expression and sat opposite Kim Tae-han. His eyes clearly showed disapproval as he looked at his brother. He checked the time before looking at Park Dong-sik.

“What’s so important that I had to rush from work?”

Park Dong-sik sat between them, opened the maternal health notebook, and placed the ultrasound pictures on the table. Kim Tae-han quickly grabbed them, and a smile spread across his face.

“What’s this? Must be baby pictures? But which one is the baby?” He squinted, trying to find the baby in the picture.

Meanwhile, Kim Jun-han just stared at Park Dong-sik with cold eyes. Park Dong-sik tried his best not to be intimidated and responded with a smile.

“See those dots? That’s the baby.”

“Wow. Amazing. But, there are two dots?”

“As expected. Your experience in filmmaking gives you a good eye. Even the doctor couldn’t spot it right away.”

A silence fell at those words. Soon, Kim Tae-han turned his head sharply.

    “Twins?”

    Park Dong-sik nodded.

“We’ll know for sure when we go to the hospital next week, but there’s a high chance it’s twins.”

Kim Jun-han’s expression remained unchanged, as if he already knew. On one hand, it was frightening to know that his every move was being reported to the other man. Park Dong-sik leaned deep into the sofa and crossed his legs.

“Well, since our husband seems to already know, let’s get to the point. Today at the hospital, I found a way to confirm who the father is.”

Both men’s gazes turned to Park Dong-sik.

“The doctor said that when having relations, if it’s not the father, the baby in the womb will show rejection symptoms. Vomiting, or in severe cases, even convulsions.”

    Kim Jun-han’s eyes became ice-cold.

“So what are you trying to say?”

“Instead of painfully arguing about whose baby it is, let’s just have a clean threesome.”

Kim Tae-han furrowed his brow, and Kim Jun-han jumped up from his seat. With one hand on his waist and biting his lips tightly, he was clearly angry.

“Mr. Lee Hee-soo. What exactly are you suggesting?”

Park Dong-sik crossed his arms and looked back and forth between the two men.

“Let me lay out the situation. First, CEO Kim Jun-han offered me 100 billion won. Right?”

As soon as he heard this, Kim Tae-han frowned.

    “Brother offered you 100 billion?”

    Park Dong-sik nodded.

“Yes, it’s five times the value of the villa you asked me to live in with you. Amazing, right? In exchange, I have to abort the baby and cut ties with you completely.”

Kim Tae-han jumped up from his seat and shouted.

“Who are you to decide to cut ties?!”

Sparks flew between the two men, and Park Dong-sik searched his pocket for candy. Ah, already feeling drained and sugar-crashing. This was the reaction he’d anticipated while worrying in the cold wind earlier today. With one demanding an abortion and the other insisting on keeping it, what choice did he have?

“If the baby in the womb rejects one of you, that means he’s not the father, so give up cleanly. If it’s CEO Kim’s baby, I’ll do as he wishes. I’ll abort it and live quietly somewhere out of your sight. That works, right?”

    Kim Tae-han’s eyes changed.

    “If it’s my child?”

    “What do you want?”

“To become Lee Hee-soo’s husband. That’s all.”

    “Alright. Let’s do that.”

One corner of Kim Tae-han’s mouth turned up while Kim Jun-han tightly closed his eyes. Before anyone could stop him, Kim Tae-han loosened his tie, threw it aside, and approached Lee Hee-soo. He gripped both arms of the sofa and moved close to Lee Hee-soo’s lips, whispering seductively while emitting a strong pheromone.

“Fine then. I’ll prove it right now.”
