Chapter 10 Just Take Us Both Down With One Sweep

Luo Zhiyu looked at the broom behind the door.

As it turned out, ‘bound to cross paths’ was proving itself true.

“Hello, students.” Teacher Xu knocked on the door twice and greeted them with a smile. “I hope I’m not disturbing you at this hour?”

Luo Zhiyu: “Not at all.” But he definitely was.

Jing Ximing, sitting on the edge of Luo Zhiyu’s bed, forced a cheerful smile.

“I’ll leave the inspection of Building 3 to you,” Teacher Xu said. “I’m going to check the building next door.”

“No problem, Teacher Xu.” Xiao Yan glanced at Luo Zhiyu inside the room. “I’ll definitely carry out my student council duties properly.”

With that, Teacher Xu left, clearly reassured.

Luo Zhiyu kept his hand on the door handle the whole time, never letting go, quietly weighing the chances of slamming the door in Xiao Yan’s face.

Xiao Yan pulled the student council duty badge out of his pocket, holding it by its lanyard, and dangled it in front of Luo Zhiyu’s eyes.

“Dorm inspection,” Xiao Yan said, wedging one foot between the door and the frame. “Luo Zhiyu, what are you trying to do?”

Luo Zhiyu, caught in the act, reluctantly opened the door to let him in. Xiao Yan hung the duty badge around his neck, holding a clipboard in his hands, with a pen clipped to the pocket of his uniform.

He was already taller than Luo Zhiyu, and the blue-and-white school tracksuit made his legs look even longer. The non-prescription glasses slightly softened the sharpness in his eyes, giving him the look of a top student he’d never had before.

He was completely different from the idiot squatting in front of the military training formation eating melon earlier that day.

Xiao Yan pushed the broom behind the door out into the hallway before following Luo Zhiyu into the room.

Luo Zhiyu was impatient by nature, but his dorm was kept tidy. The quilt on his bed was neatly folded, the trash can was empty, and a half-finished painting was drying on the easel beside the desk. Large swathes of gold oil paint covered the canvas in an abstract mess. Xiao Yan couldn’t tell what it was supposed to be.

“Not bad. You’ll get full marks for basic cleanliness.” Xiao Yan ticked the corresponding box, then looked over at the two sitting on Luo Zhiyu’s bed. “No need to be nervous.”

“We’re not nervous,” Luo Zhiyu said, hooking an arm around Jing Ximing’s shoulders. “We’re just tired, so we’re sitting for a bit.”

“Tired?” Xiao Yan looked down at the inspection form.

“We omegas tire more easily,” Luo Zhiyu said, elbowing Jing Ximing. “As nationally protected individuals, we naturally need to be careful everywhere.”

“He’s right,” Jing Ximing said with a serious nod.

Omega dorms were much more spacious than alpha ones. Luo Zhiyu’s dorm had a good location, facing south, and even came with a small balcony. As soon as Xiao Yan pushed open the door, water rained down on him, soaking him on the spot.

    Xiao Yan: “……”

Luo Zhiyu had apparently washed his uniform but hadn’t bothered to wring it out. It was hanging directly on the balcony, still dripping. The floor was streaked with water, and when Xiao Yan looked up, he saw the name tag below the collar glinting under the light.

    0301 — Xiao Yan.

In the corner of the balcony sat a flowerpot with some seeds scattered in it, not yet sprouted.

“I’m deducting points for this balcony,” Xiao Yan said, wiping the water from his face. The uniform hadn’t been rinsed properly and still smelled strongly of laundry detergent.

“Aren’t these dorm checks just for show?” Luo Zhiyu stared at him.

Xiao Yan adjusted his glasses, spinning the pen in his fingers. “Depends whose dorm we’re checking.”

    Luo Zhiyu: “……”

Jing Ximing had long heard about the rivalry between these two, but now he was finally witnessing it firsthand.

“We’ve been at each other’s throats for years,” Xiao Yan said, leaning in slightly. He lifted Luo Zhiyu’s chin with the pen, the pressure just right. “Now that I finally get to enter your room, wouldn’t it be a shame if I didn’t nitpick a little?”

“You bastard, this is you using your position for personal revenge!” Luo Zhiyu was already deciding which of Xiao Yan’s parents to curse out today. “You…”

“Hand over the pot!” Xiao Yan cut off whatever insult Luo Zhiyu had been about to say.

“How does he know we have a pot?!” Jing Ximing looked horrified.

    Luo Zhiyu elbowed his roommate.

“So you do have one?” Xiao Yan laughed. “I was just asking randomly.”

“Hand it over,” Xiao Yan said again, his gaze sweeping across the room before settling back on the two omega boys. “Not to be rude, but you two have been sitting on it under the blanket for so long, doesn’t it hurt?”

    Luo Zhiyu: “……”

“He’s got a point,” Jing Ximing nodded. “It is kind of uncomfortable.”

Luo Zhiyu had once asked why Jing Ximing’s WeChat name was ‘Qiangtucao/Fencesitter.’ Now he finally understood.

“Hand it over or I’m deducting points. Come on,” Xiao Yan urged. “I’ve got more rooms to check. Don’t hold up my student council duties. Ask anyone in the council, I’m known for being fair and impartial, never playing favorites.”

Just as his pen touched the deduction column, the stubborn resident reached out and grabbed his sleeve, holding him by the wrist.

Dage, let’s talk,” Luo Zhiyu said, looking up at him. “I only have this one pot.”

“I’m not in a position to negotiate. I’ve only got this one student job to earn merits,” Xiao Yan said, letting Luo Zhiyu cling to his wrist. “Luo Zhiyu, have you figured out how you’re going to bribe me yet? Go ahead and think about it.”

Luo Zhiyu came from a well-off family, but Xiao Yan’s background was even better. He lacked nothing, and more importantly, he wasn’t easily swayed. Worst of all, the two had been holding a grudge since they were three years old.

Luo Zhiyu had nothing to offer him, so he could only bring up the past.

“How about I let you bite me back?”

    Jing Ximing: “?”

Hearing that phrase back for the second time in one day, Xiao Yan, who had just recently sat through a physiology class, suddenly found his gaze drifting as he looked at Luo Zhiyu.

Propositioned twice by the same omega in one day, yet the omega himself never seemed to think there was anything wrong with what he was saying.

Luo Zhiyu took Xiao Yan’s distraction as a rejection and immediately gave up on that approach.

If being gentle didn’t work, then it was time to be tough. He’d switch to a negotiation style more suited for the two of them—

“Can I ask something?” Luo Zhiyu said. “What exactly counts as a banned electrical appliance at No.1 High School?”

Xiao Yan shot Luo Zhiyu a distracted glance, flipped open the school’s dorm inspection notice, and read aloud two lines, “It’s all in the freshman handbook, did you not read it? Electric fans, rice cookers, all kinds of pots, electric blankets, mini fridges, induction cookers…”

“Esteemed fair and impartial student council member, I have fully recognized my mistake and will reflect on it. Do you accept if I report another student?” Luo Zhiyu stood up, no longer hiding the pot under the blanket. He pulled it out and handed it to Xiao Yan with both hands. “I want to help create a better learning environment on campus.”

“I do,” Xiao Yan replied, his pen never pausing as he marked a deduction in the score column. “Are you trying to take another dorm down with you? No.1 High doesn’t ban these appliances for safety reasons. They’re banned so we won’t get distracted from studying.”

“I understand.” Luo Zhiyu suddenly turned very cooperative.

“Good ideological awareness. Now confess, who else has banned appliances? I’ll take both of you down in one sweep,” Xiao Yan said.

“Luo Zhiyu of Class 1-3 reports Xiao Yan og Class 2-3.” Facing Xiao Yan, Luo raised his hand deliberately, his presence just as imposing, the meek, pitiful act from before completely gone.

    Xiao Yan’s pen froze mid-stroke.

“You have a mini fridge in your dorm. You mentioned it at lunch. Now, go take us both down with one sweep.”
