    Chapter 33: Teacher’s Pet

At five o’clock, when class was dismissed, Wang Ziheng was still sprawled across his desk, wailing miserably. Moments ago, he had checked the grades for his other subjects, and several had fallen below his expectations. Now he lay there sulking, repeatedly whining about how he didn’t want to go home.

Meanwhile, Bai Chengyu was taking his time packing his bag, all the while sneaking glances at Han Junzhou on the podium. He was trying to come up with a plausible excuse to approach him without arousing suspicion from his classmates.

Just then, Liao Sheng’s phone buzzed with a notification. He glanced at it and exclaimed with excitement, “Hey, Teacher Yue Qi is asking if we want to play basketball—right now, at the big court! Li Wenting, hurry up!” He gave Wang Ziheng a hard pat on the back. “Wang Zi, get up! Let’s go! Bai Shao, are you coming?”

After calling out to Bai Chengyu and Wang Ziheng, Liao Sheng shouted to another classmate who was about to leave the room. “Hey, Pot Lid! Are you joining us for basketball? We’re one person short!”

Guo Xinkai, nicknamed “Pot Lid[1],” cheerfully responded, “Sure! Where’s the game?”

“At the big basketball court,” Liao Sheng replied.

“Alright, I’ll fill my water bottle first and meet you there,” Guo Xinkai said as he swung his empty bottle and left the classroom.

Hearing that their idol had organized a basketball game, Wang Ziheng finally perked up. He sprang to his feet and hurriedly packed his bag. Li Wenting went off to invite Wen Yuyi to join them at the court. Bai Chengyu watched as Li Wenting walked back with the girl, his face glowing with happiness. Bai couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.

Bai shouldered his bag and descended the steps of the large lecture hall, heading toward the front door. As he passed by Han Junzhou, he feigned a casual tone, “Mr. Han,” he said with a wide grin, “Teacher Yue Qi is inviting everyone to play basketball. Would you like to join us?”

Han Junzhou had intentionally lingered at the podium, waiting for his “little boyfriend” to come up and talk to him. However, he wasn’t expecting this invitation to a basketball game with Yue Qi. Was this some kind of trap? As Han pondered how to answer this “loaded question” without jeopardizing himself, someone else chimed in from behind.

Liao Sheng and the others had followed closely behind Bai Chengyu and overheard the invitation. They joined in enthusiastically. “Mr. Han, come with us! You and Teacher Yue are good friends, right? You’ve probably played together a lot in the past. I bet you two have great chemistry on the court!”

Bai Chengyu turned to glance at Liao Sheng, then back at Han Junzhou with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Yeah, great chemistry for sure.”

Han Junzhou was faced with Bai Chengyu’s playful, somewhat jealous gaze. Fighting the urge to ruffle his hair, he maintained his composure and smiled. “You’re all going? Sure, I’ll come along and watch.”

Upon hearing that Han Junzhou was willing to go, Bai Chengyu’s eyes curved into happy crescents. The sour expression he had been pretending to wear moments ago disappeared in an instant.

As Liang Yuchan was packing up her laptop nearby, Liao Sheng nudged Wang Ziheng with his elbow. This guy was always quick to tease Li Wenting, yet after declaring two months ago that he was going to pursue Liang Yuchan, he hadn’t made any moves. Seeing Wang Ziheng remain silent, Liao Sheng decided to step in. “Liang Yuchan, do you want to come watch us play basketball?”

Liang Yuchan looked up, throwing a glare at Bai Chengyu first. “What’s there to watch?”

“…?” Bai Chengyu sighed inwardly. This girl really knows how to hold a grudge. Ever since their last conversation, she hadn’t given him so much as a proper glance.

“Come on, Yuchan. Let’s go together. It’d be weird if I’m the only girl there. We can ask Yunru to come along too,” Wen Yuyi coaxed gently. Finally, Liang Yuchan agreed to join, bringing Lin Yunru along to cheer for the boys playing basketball.

The group happily made their way to the court. Han Junzhou and Bai Chengyu walked at the back of the group. Han Junzhou had held back his impulses for three whole classes, but now his “little boyfriend” was finally within reach again, and he couldn’t resist the urge to get a little touchy.

Maintaining the demeanor of a teacher, Han Junzhou patted Bai Chengyu’s shoulder as though to praise his excellent performance. Bai Chengyu stifled a laugh and shot him a sidelong glance. Seizing the moment while no one ahead of them was looking back, Bai mischievously poked Han Junzhou’s waist with his finger, making him flinch from the ticklish jab.

The two bumped shoulders and playfully kicked at each other as they walked, exchanging secret little gestures, completely unaware that someone behind them was quietly watching in displeasure.

“Teacher’s pet,” Xue Bingsheng muttered under his breath, his gaze complex as he stared at the two figures walking ahead.
