Chapter 51 You Disgust Me

    This must be a nightmare.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying in a completely unfamiliar bedroom, with a drip in the back of my hand and a thin metal chain attached to my right foot, stretching from the blanket to the ceiling.

There was no one else in the modern bedroom but me. The central air conditioning was running quietly, and sunlight shone through the sheer curtains outside the window, which was a world of coolness and brightness away from the container.

My body, hair, and even my unshaven face have been cleaned, and I feel fresh and clean, but I don’t have any pants. I’m wearing a loose shirt that barely covers my hips and looks like a nightgown.

I tried to pull, and the chain kept coming out of the hole in the ceiling. I pulled for about ten meters before I finally couldn’t pull any more. However, as soon as I let go, the chain slowly retracted, just like… just like the retractable leash you often see on the street for walking dogs.

After exploring the area, I found that the bedroom was furnished with a bed, a sofa, a coffee table, and even a bathroom. The sky outside the window was a deep blue with not a cloud in sight. Below me was a large lawn, surrounded by trees at the end, with layers of green treetops. I couldn’t see any other buildings.

It felt like it had been a lifetime since I had seen such green.

I looked at the scenery outside the window almost greedily until I heard footsteps outside the door – someone must be coming up.

I looked around anxiously and finally took a wooden table lamp from the bedside table, held it upside down in my hand, held my breath, and hid by the door.

When the door opened, I held my breath and prepared myself.

The person carrying a tray came in, paused, and seemed to have noticed, looking over at me. That’s when I swung my table lamp.

Only after I swung it did my brain realize that the person who had entered was none other than Shen Wunian. I tried to stop, but it was too late.

The wooden base of the lamp hit the other person’s forehead hard, knocking his face to the side and sending his glasses flying to the floor. I let go in fear, and with a “thud,” the lamp fell from my hands.

I staggered to the side, but Shen Wunian’s hands never let go of the tray, which shook slightly but did not fall.

My bangs hung down on my forehead, and a thin line of blood ran down from the cut, into my eye, and slowly dripped down my cheek onto my black clothes.

“You’re recovering quickly and have a lot of strength,” Shen Wunian’s left eye was completely red from the blood. He paused for a moment, then pushed the plate into my arms and bent down to pick up the table lamp and glasses on the floor. Without anger or blame, he said to me in a calm voice, “You eat by yourself. I’ll take care of my wound.” With that, he picked up his things and turned to leave the bedroom.

It wasn’t a dream. I really was saved by Shen Wunian.

But… but why is he tying me up?

Staring at the bloodstains on the floor for a moment, I carried the tray to the sofa area by the window and sat down to eat in silence.

The food was very light, nothing too difficult to digest, and the taste… I knew immediately that Shen Wunian had made it himself.

After more than a week of eating compressed biscuits, I was finally able to eat a real meal. Every two bites I had to stop and hold back my emotions, hold back my tears, and reflect on how good it felt to be alive.

I finished the food on my plate without leaving any scraps, got up, tugged at the chains, and tried to walk out of the room on one foot. I didn’t see anyone stopping me, so I plucked up the courage and walked out.

Outside was a spiral staircase. This floor was the top floor. I stuck my head out to look down and saw that it was like a circle of mosquito coils, with at least two more floors below.

Besides the bedroom where I was staying, there were two other rooms on this floor, all with closed doors. I wasn’t curious enough to look inside, so I continued my exploration down the stairs.

The chains dragged along the white marble steps like a slender silver snake, twisting and turning.

The first floor was incredibly spacious, with huge transparent floor-to-ceiling windows on the north and south sides. On one side was a vast lawn, and on the other, the azure sea.

Where in the world had I been taken?

I searched the entire living room for any means of communication, such as a phone or computer, but found only a television remote control on the sofa.

    “What are you looking for?”

The voice that suddenly sounded behind me scared me uncontrollably and made me start to hiccup.

Covering my mouth with my fingers, I turned around on the sofa, grinning, and my knee accidentally hit the remote. The TV news almost overlapped with my voice.

    “I was just…hic…wandering around…”

“…following the death of Liang Weiren, the eldest son of the Liang family, who was shot by the SWAT team after taking hostages and bleeding to death. Robert Ashmakine, the American art dealer and another key figure in the Parkway embezzlement case, also mysteriously disappeared while sailing recently…”

Burping, I couldn’t help but think of the last scene in the dream connection – Ashmakine strangling Shen Wunian with a riding crop, as if he wanted to kill the other person.

Now Shen Wunian was standing here unharmed, did that mean Ashmakine had… With a flutter of my eyelashes, I got up from the sofa and took a few steps back.

Shen Wunian’s forehead injury had been properly treated, the bleeding stopped, and the wound covered with two strips of surgical tape. The blood in his eyes had also been removed. He was already wearing black clothes, so it was hard to see the blood stains on his body, but the bandage around his neck still had a slightly conspicuous red color on it, highlighting the violence he had just suffered.

“Don’t even think about running. It’s useless. The key to the chains is hidden in a place only I know. There is no signal here and no one will come. “He said, walking towards me, “As long as you stay in this room, the security system will call the police. Unless you cut off your own feet and risk bleeding to death crawling out. Crawl a few miles, with luck you’ll be found, with bad luck… you’ll just die on the way.”

“Ashmakine’s two children are currently the subject of an official investigation into their father’s disappearance. They were released on bail after 24 hours of questioning and are currently not allowed to leave the country. Their lawyer has stressed their cooperative attitude and hopes to clarify the facts as soon as possible”.

    “Burp!”

I looked at the TV, and before I could say anything, Shen Wunian followed my gaze and explained, “Because of the investigation, my father has been in a bad mood. Five days ago, Philia and I went sailing with him. The first day was fine, but on the second day, he suddenly went crazy and tried to kill Philia and me. He pushed Philia into the sea and then strangled me with a riding crop. We struggled and I accidentally cut myself and stabbed him.”

He looked away and let out a soft sigh, his expression pitiful and innocent.

But I knew it was all an act.

He must never know that I have a dream connection with him, or he will definitely kill me to keep me quiet…

Shen Wunian started walking towards me again: “He accidentally fell into the sea, and Philia tried to save him, but the sea was too dark at night, and he disappeared in no time.

The closer he got to me, the further I backed away until my back was pressed against the glass wall.

“The Parkway Group is in a very unstable state right now. The stock market is sensitive to these cascading events and the stock price is volatile. Analysts point out that the future of the group depends on whether stability can be quickly restored within the family and whether investor and public confidence can be rebuilt…”

“Look how deep the cut is. The doctor said it was close to the artery,” he said, taking off the bandage and loosening it a little to show me his wound.

The first thing I noticed was a ring of ugly bruises and then a flat, sharp cut on the side of his neck. Despite the stitches, it was still possible to see how viciously Shen Wunian had struck.

This person is not only ruthless to others, but also to himself.

“The police said they would thoroughly investigate Liang Weiren’s embezzlement case and all the details of the kidnapping incident to ensure fairness and the rule of law. In addition, the search and rescue team is continuing a comprehensive search for Ashmakine’s disappearance…”

    He won’t be found.

Maybe they’re not even looking in the right part of the ocean where Ashmakine fell.

“Why are you… holding me back? Didn’t you say… let me go?”

Shen Wunian raised his hand, pinched my cheeks, fixed my chin, and looked at my features from top to bottom before slowly saying, “In the past, I felt that looking at you was annoying. But through this incident, I discovered that if something happened to you out of my sight, I would be even more annoyed. Since it’s the same kind of annoyance, I might as well choose the lesser of two evils and keep you bound to me.

What kind of nonsense is this?

I stared at him, trying to make a sound: “You… you’re illegally detaining me!”

He smiled and let go of my face: “You owe me first.” Then he took out a folded piece of paper from his pants pocket and shook it in front of me, “It is only natural to repay a debt.

At that moment, I felt my pupils tremble. It was the IOU I had written to Shen Wunian in the first place! It was the IOU that I had asked for several times after paying him back, but he had never returned it to me!

“This is… this is my IOU! I clearly paid you back the money!” I reached out to grab it, but Shen Wunian slightly raised his hand to avoid it.

He just put his hand on my chest, so I couldn’t reach the IOU no matter what I did.

“Then why is the marker still in my hands?”

I couldn’t believe that a person could be so bold as to distort the truth to such an extent: “Because at that time you… deliberately didn’t give it back to me!”

There was not a trace of remorse on his face: “Really? But I clearly remember that you didn’t pay.”

“Despicable! Shameless! How can you be so shameless?” No matter how harsh the words, he didn’t seem to feel any pain. I bit my lip and stopped reaching for the IOU in his hand like a little child.

He was the one who said he didn’t want me to cling to him, and now he’s talking about locking me up. This person…this person is really mean from beginning to end.

“I hate you…no, I hate you.” I opened his hand that was holding me down, and the emotions that I had managed to stuff deep into my brain seemed to come flooding back. They hit me, and my heart tightened with each blow. Defending myself, I spat out the harshest words I could think of, “Shen Wunian, you make me sick.

I couldn’t stop the hiccups. I pushed him away, dragged the chain behind me, ran upstairs, returned to the bedroom where it all began, and locked the door.
