Chapter 11: What if He Keeps Coming and Going?

Xia Ye had been hospitalized for five days. In the first three, they finally got his infection under control, and in the last two, he underwent a full top-tier health check. Today, he was finally able to be discharged.

In the afternoon, Han Junzhou came to Xia Ye’s room to go over the results. With a slight furrow in his brow, he said, “Your condition isn’t great. Your hormones are a mess, and you’re severely depleted.”

“Depleted? Is that some kind of illness?” Xia Ye asked in confusion, reaching for the report in Dr. Han’s hands.

“Technically, it’s not an illness,” Han Junzhou replied, pointing to specific data points in the report for Xia Ye to see. “All your tests are within normal ranges, but they just barely meet the minimum standards. The main issue is with your gonads. They primarily control reproductive hormones but also activate other hormones. Right now, your glands have shrunk, so you’re not producing enough hormones, and they aren’t interacting properly with your other organs. Over time, those organs’ functions will start to weaken.”

“Huh? I thought gonads just secreted reproductive hormones and were only in charge of regulating cycles and pheromones. Do they really affect other organs?” Xia Ye asked.

“The hormone interaction mechanism is too complex to explain, and you wouldn’t understand it anyway. What matters now is treating the atrophy of your gonads,” Han Junzhou responded, looking slightly evasive.

Han Junzhou had been briefed by Han Mingxiu that Xia Ye had been using unregulated inhibitors, which seemed to have led to his gland issues, and that Xia Ye was reluctant to seek treatment. Today, Han Junzhou was there to persuade him otherwise.

Xia Ye sighed. “I don’t know what you all are trying to do, but I’m fine as I am. I don’t want treatment.”

“That’s not an option,” Han Junzhou said urgently. “Your gonads have already shrunk by a quarter, which is irreversible damage. The remaining three-quarters are also compromised. And after giving birth, for some reason, my heat cycles have shortened, and my pheromones have intensified. Regular inhibitors couldn’t suppress it, so I resorted to buying stronger ones on the black market.”

Xia Ye explained matter-of-factly, “The first time I used them, I must’ve already been on the verge of a heat cycle. The initial dosage couldn’t suppress it, and my pheromones started to leak out. Do you know how terrifying it was? I was burning up inside in the dead of night, while several men outside were pounding on the door, and my child was crying in my arms. Fine, that could wait. Right now, helping Xia Ye regain his health was the priority.

He tried to persuade him once more. “It doesn’t have to be like this. Xia Ye, you could have an Alpha. He’d be there to help you—you wouldn’t have to harm your own body.”

“People can’t rely on others forever or wait around to be protected,” Xia Ye replied softly, shaking his head. “In the end, many things have to be handled on your own.”

What if he keeps coming and going?

The glands might be repairable, but what about the heart?
