by jj.ssasipscoffeeChapter 46: A Dollar-Million Plaything
Xia Ye slumped over the table, panting heavily.
Han Mingxiu went to the wardrobe and dug through the pockets of his overcoat, finally pulling out two barely effective suppressant pills. Stretching his arm, he handed them to Xia Ye, only for Xia Ye to sweep the pills off the table with a wave of his hand.
“Xiao Xia…” Han Mingxiu called out, his voice laced with anxiety and pain. “Don’t be like this…” He himself was already struggling to keep control.
Xia Ye finally looked up at him, his eyes red with anger as he shouted, “Do you want me to beg you?!”
This idiot must have let his thoughts wander again, and now they had spiraled out of control. The current scene mirrored the time in the research lab when Xia Ye had gone into heat. Han Mingxiu, oh Han Mingxiu, after all these years and everything we’ve been through, how have you still not learned?
The more Xia Ye thought about it, the angrier he became, and the angrier he got, the more thoughts swirled in his mind. Back then, Han Mingxiu had left him for three and a half years. Call it childish, call it revenge—Xia Ye had initially resolved to make him wait for three and a half years in return. Now, with just two months left, he had foolishly softened. And yet, this bastard was already losing his composure and letting his thoughts run wild.
Three and a half years. For Xia Ye, it had been a painful time spent alone, struggling to raise a child. For Han Mingxiu, the first part had been eased by video calls, and the latter half was filled with Xia Ye’s late-night companionship. So who really got the better deal here?
And now, after everything, this bastard dares to think Xia Ye has moved on to someone else? Xia Ye’s years of suffering boiled over into a fury so intense it left him trembling. Why should it always fall on him to comfort and coax this idiot?
Screw it. If he doesn’t want it, so be it.
Xia Ye reached into the back pocket of his jeans and pulled out the flat, silver ring box. He had half a mind to throw it directly at Han Mingxiu’s face. But a shred of reason reminded him that the ring wasn’t Han Mingxiu’s; it was a family heirloom borrowed from the Han elders. He couldn’t be so rude as to toss away their treasure.
Instead, Xia Ye slammed the silver box onto the table with a loud thud. “There, take it back! You think I’m so desperate to keep it?” He wobbled as he stood up. Han Mingxiu instinctively took a step back, then rushed forward to steady him when he saw Xia Ye losing balance, only for Xia Ye to shove him away forcefully.
“Idiot!” Xia Ye roared at him, flinging the private room door open and storming out.
Han Mingxiu immediately grabbed the server who had delivered the wine earlier, urgently instructing him to follow Xia Ye. “Make sure he gets back to his room safely!” he ordered, voice filled with panic. An Omega in heat running loose in a hotel was no joke.
Han Mingxiu stayed behind, dropping to the floor to search for the suppressant pills Xia Ye had knocked over. After what felt like an eternity, he finally found them.
Sweating profusely, Han Mingxiu gulped down the suppressant pills with the lemon water on the table.
He sat back in the chair, panting as his rationality slowly returned. Xia Ye’s furious shout of “idiot” had sounded like an angry, flustered cat. But why?
Han Mingxiu’s gaze landed on the wine on the table—an ’86 Mouton Rothschild. It was the same wine they’d shared on their first night together, the night he’d temporarily marked Xia Ye by biting the back of his neck.
The lingering scent of Xia Ye’s pheromones in the room gradually faded as the suppressant took effect. Han Mingxiu patted his muddled head, trying to make sense of what had just happened and why Xia Ye had suddenly flown into a rage and stormed out.
From the moment he’d entered the room, he retraced his words. What had he said to upset Xia Ye?
Things had been fine at first—they were both smiling. Xia Ye had even greeted him with “Senior.”
Wait. Xia Ye had called him “Senior,” ordered their wine, and bashfully admitted that there was someone who had moved his heart. Then, he’d gotten angry, slammed the ring box onto the table, and said, “Take it back! You think I care about it?”
Xia Ye always had a habit of saying the opposite of what he felt when he was angry. So, it seemed he actually cared about the ring. That’s why he had reacted so furiously when asked if he wanted to return it.
But then, if he cared about it, why had he taken it off?
Han Mingxiu picked up the ring box and fiddled with it, mulling over Xia Ye’s thoughts. Suddenly, Tang Xi’s words popped into his head, making Han Mingxiu jump to his feet in excitement. He finally understood Xia Ye’s intentions and realized who had moved his heart.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he bolted out of the private room.
“He wore the ring to keep other Alphas away from him,” Tang Xi had said.
I’m the Alpha he doesn’t need to keep away anymore. He hadn’t taken the ring off to return it—he had taken it off to make a statement.
Han Mingxiu wanted to kick himself. How could he have been so blind? But now wasn’t the time for self-recrimination. Xia Ye was in heat, and he had to help him.
He ran to the hotel’s front desk. Ignoring the staff who greeted him with “Hello, Mr. Han,” he urgently demanded they look up Xia Ye’s room number.
“Sir, that would violate privacy laws and infringe on the guest’s personal information,” the female employee hesitated, refusing him. Han Mingxiu understood the rules and didn’t want to make things difficult for her, but the General Manager’s boyfriend was about to run off!
He resorted to pestering, wheedling, threatening, and nagging, trying every trick he could think of. Just as the staff were dealing with his unreasonable antics, the desk phone rang.
One of the employees who had been listening to Han Mingxiu’s tirade quickly picked up the call. She glanced at the computer screen displaying the caller’s room number and VIP registration details. Her fingers tapped lightly on the desk as she gestured for Han Mingxiu to pause, signaling him to stay quiet.
How audacious.
At first, Han Mingxiu was stunned by the employee’s strict adherence to protocol, bordering on defiance. But then he caught part of her conversation:
“Hello, Mr. Xia Ye. This is the front desk. Yes, is there anything we can assist you with?”
Han Mingxiu perked up immediately when he heard the employee addressing Xia Ye on the phone. He stood still, straining to listen.
“You’re requesting the hotel to provide comfort services and arrange for an Alpha, is that correct?” the employee repeated Xia Ye’s request clearly, her eyes widening as she glanced at Han Mingxiu.
Han Mingxiu’s heart tightened. Xia Ye must truly be furious if he was resorting to requesting comfort services.
Comfort services were offered by the hotel to assist guests experiencing sudden heats. These services, supervised by government regulations, involved licensed sex workers providing temporary relief in a strictly regulated manner. Unlike typical entertainment-based transactions, comfort services were regarded as a medically-oriented activity aimed at easing the physiological and emotional strain caused by a heat cycle. Because the practitioners underwent stringent health screenings by relevant authorities, the service was considered both safe and legal compared to private arrangements.
Han Mingxiu nodded subtly at the female employee, who understood his cue. She calmly repeated the details into the phone:
“Understood. Let me confirm: you’re requesting a clean and healthy Alpha to arrive at Room 1806 within ten minutes. Is that correct? Very well, we will make the arrangements immediately.”
The moment Han Mingxiu heard the room number, he dashed toward the elevator and pressed the button for the 18th floor.
When he reached Room 1806, he began frantically ringing the doorbell and pounding on the door. Desperation seeped into his voice as he pleaded:
“Xia Ye, I know I was wrong! Please open the door. How are you feeling right now? Let me in so I can check on you!”
A loud thud came from inside, as though something had been thrown against the door.
“I don’t need you to check on me! Go away,” Xia Ye’s hoarse voice called out. “I’ve already ordered comfort services. I don’t need you. The ring’s already returned to you, so just leave…”
Despite his pleas, Xia Ye refused to open the door. Han Mingxiu was growing increasingly frantic, ready to call the front desk for a spare key when someone called out to him.
“Sir, is there something you need?”
Han Mingxiu turned around to see the hotel’s housekeeping manager, who immediately recognized him. Startled, the manager greeted him nervously:
“Oh! President Han, good evening. How can I assist you?”
Han Mingxiu grabbed his arm and explained the situation, requesting his help.
The manager, upon hearing the request, was so shocked his jaw dropped. He stared at Han Mingxiu, struggling to process what the high-ranking executive had just asked of him.
“Quick! Just say what I tell you to,” Han Mingxiu mouthed urgently.
Reluctantly, the manager braced himself, pressed the doorbell, and said with a trembling voice:
“Mr. Xia Ye, hello. I’m the housekeeping manager. I’ve brought the comfort service you requested.”
The door opened slightly, just enough for Xia Ye to peek out. Half his face appeared through the crack as he inspected the two people standing outside—one was a uniformed hotel staff member, and the other was none other than the shameless Han Mingxiu.
Frowning, Xia Ye glared at them. “I requested comfort service, not a service that would drive me mad.”
Han Mingxiu quickly put on an air of humility and said, “Sir, allow me to serve you.”
The manager’s jaw nearly hit the floor as he stared at Han Mingxiu. The president of the company stood at attention, slightly bowing, and seriously declared his intent to provide service to a hotel guest.
What on earth is happening here? the manager thought. Is this some kind of performance? Because if it is, I don’t understand it at all. And what am I supposed to do now?
Am I going to get silenced after witnessing this? Are the rich playing at this level these days?!
Xia Ye was fuming, but his physical discomfort from the heat was unbearable. Leaning against the door with effort, he glared at the housekeeping manager and asked, “Is there really no better option?”
“I am the best option,” Han Mingxiu declared shamelessly.
Xia Ye ignored him, keeping his gaze fixed on the manager.
“H-he-he is the best!” The manager was on the verge of a breakdown. Oh God, I’m practically pimping out President Han!
“Too expensive,” Xia Ye muttered and moved to close the door.
“You can afford it,” Han Mingxiu retorted, reaching out to stop the door. In his moment of urgency, he forgot just how strong an Alpha’s strength could be. His push snapped the door chain clean off the wall, and Xia Ye, already weak, stumbled several steps back. Seizing the opportunity, Han Mingxiu slipped inside, closing the door behind him to block the manager’s view of Xia Ye.
Inside, Han Mingxiu finally noticed Xia Ye had already showered and was dressed in a pure white bathrobe. The loosely tied belt revealed a sliver of flushed, fair skin on his chest.
The manager, left standing outside, took out a handkerchief to wipe his sweat. First time doing something like this, and it’s terrifying!
Xia Ye, realizing Han Mingxiu had barged in and wasn’t leaving, decided to just roll with it. Pointing to the broken door chain, he said, “You broke that, so you’ll pay for it.” Then, wobbling as he walked, he muttered, “How much are your rates?”
Before Xia Ye could collapse, overwhelmed by Han Mingxiu’s fir scent pheromones, Han Mingxiu was already behind him, catching him mid-stumble. Lifting him into his arms, he teased, “Million-dollar per session?”
The room was thick with Xia Ye’s watermelon-scented pheromones. Han Mingxiu, though having just taken inhibitors, felt revitalized, his body reacting as if the circus was back in full swing.
Xia Ye, equally disoriented by Han Mingxiu’s intoxicating pheromones, weakly hooked an arm around his neck, clinging to him. “A million-dollar for the whole night, and I might consider you.”
“Deal,” Han Mingxiu said without hesitation.
