Chapter 6: Infertility?

“Uncle Junzhou, I have infertility. I won’t be able to have children,” Han Mingxiu said sorrowfully.

“What?” Han Junzhou was stunned. “How is that possible? Are you sure? When did you find out, and where?” His mind was racing with questions—infertility in the Han family’s heir was a serious matter. He was so anxious that he didn’t know what to do.

Seeing Han Junzhou’s reaction, Han Mingxiu couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Wasn’t he just as panicked when he first found out?

“Calm down…” Han Mingxiu said, beginning to recount what had happened.

After graduating from graduate school, Han Mingxiu joined Yunbang Corporation. During that period, a group of new employees joined the company, and the company arranged a medical examination for all of them. Han Mingxiu was included in the list. Thinking that he had already taken a day off for the checkup, he decided to pay for a higher-grade, comprehensive medical examination.

The results were confidential, and all tests were conducted using identification codes. The final report was sent electronically to the system, accessible only with his personal code and password.

While all his other results were excellent, there was an issue with his reproductive system. Specifically, it was a problem with sperm viability.

All the sperm cells were non-viable, meaning they were essentially dead.

“Non-viable sperm?” Infertility in an Alpha was no trivial matter. Han Junzhou frowned deeply and quickly asked, “And? You didn’t just diagnose yourself based on a single report, did you? The report should have instructed you to return to the hospital for a re-evaluation. Did you go back?”

Han Junzhou had a bad feeling—Han Mingxiu likely hadn’t gone back. If he had, he would have booked an appointment in his reproductive endocrinology department.

As expected, Han Mingxiu shook his head. “I didn’t go to our hospital. I was afraid of being recognized.”

Han Junzhou called him foolish. “What if the report was wrong?”

Han Mingxiu gave a bitter smile. “I was hoping for that too, so I went to the affiliated hospital at University A to get tested again. The result was the same—non-viable sperm. The director was going to arrange another test, but I showed him the report from our hospital. After reviewing both reports, Dr. Wang said that the pattern of sperm degeneration in both results looked identical…”

After thoroughly examining the reports, Dr. Wang concluded, “It’s confirmed—infertility.”

Infertility in an Alpha differs significantly from typical cases. Although Alphas generally have superior physical attributes, their sperm is more delicate and sensitive than that of ordinary Betas. In fact, Alphas typically only produce around 30-50% of the viable sperm count that Betas do. However, the sperm that does survive is known for its strong quality and competitive advantage, making the surviving sperm among the best in terms of viability.

Yet, once an Alpha encounters infertility due to non-viable sperm, it’s almost a death sentence in terms of reproduction. If the diagnosis is confirmed, further testing is unnecessary. No treatments have shown any success; all attempted therapies have failed, and there is no effective intervention. Even testicular biopsies to extract sperm aren’t viable for Alphas because the sperm produced are non-functional from the moment of creation.

Han Junzhou was speechless. The likelihood of reports from two major medical centers being incorrect was practically zero. Yet he still had an unsettling feeling about the situation. “I’ll… I’ll look into this further; it’s too unusual. My mother said that child really resembles you—you should go back and see him as soon as you can.”

With that, Han Junzhou hurried back to his office, a thought lingering in the back of his mind that he needed to confirm.

After he left, Han Mingxiu stood at the doorway of the hospital room. Through the glass panel, he could see Xia Ye lying on his side, his back to the door, still asleep. Han Mingxiu sighed, realizing he truly did need to go back and see this child.

The family driver had already arrived, and Han Mingxiu instructed him to stand by outside the hospital room while he drove himself back home.

Inside the hospital room, Xia Ye lay quietly. His mind repeated the words: That’s not my child.

How cruel.He lay facing away from the door, his eyes wide open as he struggled to keep his tears from falling.
