Chapter Index

Chi Qingzhou heard his own heartbeat.

    It was fast, and heavy.

He instinctively reached out, pressing his hand against Xing Shuangzhan’s chest.

Xing Shuangzhan’s kiss paused for a moment, and the next second, it became even more passionate.

The chest under his palm was burning hot.

Chi Qingzhou felt like a fish out of water, his limbs gradually losing strength.

His hand, placed on the table, softened, almost unable to support his body weight, and he leaned back further.

A mist rose in his eyes.

    Everything before him became blurry.

Chi Qingzhou’s fingers unconsciously tightened, as if rejecting, yet also holding onto Xing Shuangzhan’s clothes, pulling him closer.

His fingertips turned white from pressing too hard, and a numb sensation began at his hands, slowly spreading through his veins and body.

In a daze, he caught a faint fragrance.

It resembled the calming incense used in Daoist temples—pure and harmonious—yet also reminded him of the cheap sandalwood incense he had burned on his tenth birthday, during a ceremony he performed himself.

It was the first time he had ever known what hope smelled like.

    Xing Shuangzhan.

Chi Qingzhou lightly closed his eyes, and a chuckle escaped from his throat.

His hand on Xing Shuangzhan’s chest suddenly moved up, pulling him into a tight embrace around his neck, forcing him down and kissing him back with fervor.

Xing Shuangzhan’s breath faltered for a moment before he eagerly responded to Chi Qingzhou’s passion.

The temperature in the lounge seemed to rise.

Xing Shuangzhan’s gaze locked onto Chi Qingzhou’s, his hand tightening around Chi Qingzhou’s, squeezing and rubbing it with measured force, his eyes growing even darker.

Although his body had already fused, at this moment, he felt like some kind of monster shedding its human skin, revealing its vicious true form, always locking onto its prey, ready to drag it into eternal darkness at any moment.

A smile lingered in Xing Shuangzhan’s eyes.

He had never been a kind person.

    He was such a monster.

And the person he liked just so happened to be no ordinary person, able to accept him as he was.

    They were a natural pair.

    Xing Shuangzhan thought with pleasure.

He grasped Chi Qingzhou’s wrist, preparing to do something further.

However, Chi Qingzhou suddenly pushed him away.

    Xing Shuangzhan didn’t react immediately.

Chi Qingzhou blinked, his eyes shimmering with a playful glint, and his smile became even more mischievous.

“Su-Ge, we’re at the company,” he said cheerfully, “we can’t do other things here~”

    Xing Shuangzhan: “…”

    He almost laughed in exasperation.

Narrowing his eyes slightly, he said dangerously, “What if I still want to do something?”

Chi Qingzhou cheerfully replied, “Then I’ll call someone over!”

He imitated a movie tone, speaking slowly, “You wouldn’t want people to see, right?”

Xing Shuangzhan stared at Chi Qingzhou for a few seconds, a light chuckle rolling in his throat.

“I don’t care.” He said casually, “After being a ghost for so long, my thoughts are no longer those of humans. You don’t think I’ll follow human rules, do you?”

    “Well, not really.”

    Chi Qingzhou winked at him.

“But even you, Su-Ge, wouldn’t want to be interrupted at the most important moment, would you? Or do you not care about that either?”

    Xing Shuangzhan: “…”

He pinched Chi Qingzhou’s cheek irritably and sighed with a smile, “Little troublemaker.”

Chi Qingzhou leaned on his shoulder, turning his head to smile at him, but said nothing.

    Xing Shuangzhan didn’t speak either.

Now, it was not the right time to do anything, but that was fine; there was always tonight.

He glanced at the slightly smug Chi Qingzhou, the corner of his lips rising.

After all, this little troublemaker couldn’t avoid work forever.

Chi Qingzhou indeed had no plans to stay overnight at the company.

But he didn’t return to his own place.

After leaving the Chi family’s house for a few months, Chi Qingzhou returned for the first time.

Xing Shuangzhan, staying in Chi Qingzhou’s shadow: “…”

This little troublemaker really knows how to avoid punishment.

Chi Qingzhou proudly gave a glance to the shadow, opened the car door, and stepped out, walking briskly towards the villa.

The Chi family’s villa was in a well-known affluent district in HeXing City. The entire neighborhood was surrounded by mountains and rivers, with a commercial area nearby, making it a very desirable place to live.

As a result, many wealthy families, even if they don’t live there regularly, still buy a house in the area.

The Fu family was one of them.

What set them apart was that Fu Wenan returned to his villa every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Not for any other reason, but to spend more time with Chi Qingning.

If Chi Qingning wasn’t home, he would visit the Chi couple, giving them face.

To be honest, Chi Qingning really liked Fu Wenan’s attentiveness.

No matter how many fish Chi Qingning kept in his pond, Fu Wenan would always be different in his heart.

But when it came to comparing it to his career, Chi Qingning would naturally choose his career.

Fu Wenan was well aware of this, and naturally, he was more attentive to Chi Qingning.

Today was Wednesday, and Fu Wenan knew Chi Qingning had finished recording his program and had returned to HeXing City, so he naturally wouldn’t miss the chance to meet him.

He bought Chi Qingning’s favorite things and arrived at the villa gate earlier than Chi Qingning.

Unfortunately, he had not yet returned home.

Fu Wenxian politely thanked the maid and placed the gift in the living room before saying he was going out for a walk.

Of course, the maid didn’t stop him. After a brief chat, she saw him off as he left the villa.

As soon as he stepped outside, before he could do anything, he saw Chi Qingzhou getting out of the car.

In that instant, Fu Wenan instinctively furrowed his brows.

He subconsciously reached for his phone. Just as he was about to grab it, a loud bark echoed from the garden of the villa.

Fu Wenan turned toward the sound and saw a majestic black dog emerging from a gap in the garden fence, barking at him as it came.

    It looked very fierce.

Fu Wenan was a bit confused.

He was sure he had never seen this dog before, yet the dog seemed to have a strong hostility toward him.

After a brief thought, Fu Wenan decided to give up on troubling Chi Qingzhou and chose to head back to the villa to avoid the dog.

However, the large black dog was incredibly fast and had explosive strength. Fu Wenan had only retreated a few meters when the dog lunged at him, biting onto the hem of his pants!

Fu Wenan instinctively stretched his leg, attempting to kick the dog away, but he didn’t expect the dog wasn’t actually trying to bite him.

His kick caused the dog to retreat two steps in sync with his motion.

Then, the dog forcefully tugged at his pants.

With a tearing sound, the expensive suit pants were ripped off at the hem!

Fu Wenxian was pulled off balance and fell to the ground, tumbling into a disoriented mess.

He gasped in pain and looked down in bewilderment.

One pant leg was gone, revealing part of his thigh. One of his shoes had fallen off due to the dog’s tugging, and his gray socks were covered in dirt, making him look disheveled.

It wasn’t until then that Fu Wenxian came back to his senses and realized what had happened.

His face turned pale, and he quickly looked up in the distance.

Chi Qingzhou stood with his hands on his hips, tilting his head and staring at him with curiosity in his peach blossoms eyes.

He didn’t laugh, but that stance in Fu Wenan’s eyes was more humiliating than any mocking laughter.

His face, which had been pale, suddenly flushed red, and he couldn’t help but glare at Chi Qingzhou. “You—”

    “Woof, woof, woof!”

The angry barking of the dog interrupted his reprimand.

Fu Wenan instinctively pulled his leg back and, just as he glanced away, the dog bared its teeth, crouching low, ready to attack.

Fu Wenxian’s expression changed drastically. He didn’t dare rush forward and could only reluctantly stop, carefully watching the dog, stepping back step by step.

He moved slowly, trying not to provoke the dog.

The dog made a few threatening growls and barked again, lowering its body even more.

Fu Wenan broke into a cold sweat.

He was certain he had never seen this dog before.

How had he offended it so badly that it was now targeting him?

Fu Wenan was utterly confused, even starting to suspect the dog was brought by Chi Qingzhou, maybe to take revenge on him.

When Chi Qingzhou had given him a small gift earlier, Fu Wenan had been unwilling to treat the young master, who might affect Qingning’s position, with kindness. Not only had he rejected the gift, but he had also silently accepted others’ ridicule of him.

If Chi Qingzhou had hated him for that and brought the dog to deal with him, Fu Wenan could understand.

Fu Wenan went through several thoughts in his mind and soon decided to have a word with Chi Qingzhou.

Although he really didn’t want to bow down to him, he was here to meet his love, and he couldn’t let Qingning see him in such a sorry state.

A hint of coldness appeared on his face. Without turning back, he raised his voice slightly.

“Chi Qingzhou, did you bring this dog? If you want compensation, you can ask for it. There’s no need to resort to such methods—”

    “Woof, woof, woof! Woof, woof!”

The furious barking interrupted him once again. Fu Wenan was jolted and looked at the dog, only to find it even more agitated, as though it had been provoked.

    Fu Wenan: “…”

He was utterly bewildered, a little embarrassed, and in his frustration, couldn’t move.

“Woof, woof!” The dog barked again, the sound rhythmic as if it were mocking him.

Fu Wenan couldn’t understand the dog’s meaning, but its demeanor was enough to put him in an awkward position.

Fuming and anxious, Fu Wenan’s face alternated between pale and flushed as he glanced back at Chi Qingzhou, who was still watching.

This time, he’d stirred up a hornet’s nest.

In an instant, the large black dog leaped in front of Fu Wenan, barking and jumping with agitation.

Chi Qingzhou listened for a moment before laughing out loud.

The large black dog was his friend, and all those barks clearly were insults directed at Fu Wenan.

    — “You actually took advantage of me being out to snatch the cookies Zhouzhou bought for me!”

    — “How dare you fight with a dog for food!”

    — “You still have the nerve to glare at Zhouzhou? You human, you’re utterly shameless!”
