WBJAO CH 4: The Rooms – Unexpectedly a Beta
by Nianger“There are five rooms in total: three single rooms on the second floor and two double rooms on the first floor,” the director explained, glancing at everyone’s reactions as he spoke.
Shen Chiyuan looked up at the director, listening attentively to every word.
When Mu Songmian heard about sharing a double room, his brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. He had a bit of a cleanliness obsession and had been accustomed to living alone since childhood. The thought of sharing a room with someone whose habits were unknown to him was hard to accept.
Mu Songmian was tempted to quit right then and there. However, when he remembered the consequences he’d face if he backed out, he dismissed the thought. At worst, he could divide the shared space with his roommate, insist on timely trash disposal, and stay diligent about personal hygiene.
If it became unbearable… well, he’d deal with it when the time came.
The other two alphas didn’t seem overly concerned. To them, it felt like revisiting dorm life during their school days. Fifteen days wasn’t a big deal.
As for the omegas, their expressions remained neutral. The natural attraction between alphas and omegas made sharing a private space for too long potentially risky. No production team would be foolish enough to place an alpha and an omega in the same room unless they were courting disaster.
However, with only three single rooms and more than three omegas present, it seemed like the production team might indeed be stirring up some drama.
Due to Shen Chiyuan’s exceptional appearance, many mistook him for a fourth omega, though he remained blissfully unaware, standing at the edge of the group and listening earnestly to the director.T
he director continued, “The single rooms upstairs are for the omegas, while the double rooms downstairs are for the alphas and betas. As for who shares a room with whom, that will be up to you to decide.”
After finishing, the director smiled warmly at the group. Previously, the team had considered assigning all participants to rooms on the first floor, but the results hadn’t been very compelling. This new setup, while seemingly ordinary, came with a twist—they had relocated all the bathrooms to the first floor.
This way, everyone would need to come downstairs to wash up, and sparks were bound to fly.
“I don’t have an issue, but are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?” The cold-faced man, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up.
“Yeah,” a more lively boy chimed in, nodding along.
Even Mu Songmian turned to look at the director, waiting for his response.
The director maintained his smile and replied, “There’s no mistake.”
The indifferent man furrowed his brows, his gaze falling on the three omegas sitting on the couch, then briefly glanced at Shen Chiyuan, who was quietly standing on the side, and said, “There are three single rooms, but there are four omegas, aren’t there?
”[Oh! Oh! Oh! Looks like there’s going to be an AO couple sharing a room!]
[Whoa, the production team is this bold?]
[Exciting! I love it! I hope they don’t turn off the live stream in the rooms!]
[I doubt it, such a twist might get the show banned.]
Four omegas?
Upon hearing this, Shen Chiyuan was also surprised. He turned to look at the alphas, feeling confused. These people didn’t seem like omegas.
The director glanced around at everyone again, his eyes settling on Shen Chiyuan, who appeared lost in thought. Seeing that Shen Chiyuan’s looks were not inferior to any of the others present, the director immediately understood.
It seemed they had mistaken Shen Chiyuan for an omega. What kind of expression would they have if they found out he was actually a beta?
The director became curious. When he first saw Shen Chiyuan’s photo, he had also questioned his secondary gender. But after several confirmations, it turned out to be true, which was a bit surprising.
Having such a handsome beta as a son, his parents must be exceptionally good-looking too.
The director gave a mysterious look around at everyone, then said, “The room assignments are not wrong because the production team will not interfere with your interactions from here on out. Tasks will be assigned to you through cards or messages.”
The seven people present didn’t speak, continuing to watch the director and wait for what he would say next.
“So, in order to avoid any inconvenience in case certain situations arise, the production team has specifically invited a beta to participate. This beta will share a double room with an alpha.”
“Of course, inviting a beta to join the show is also to show the audience that betas can be outstanding too.”
After the director finished speaking, an eerie silence filled the room. The idea of inviting a beta to a love reality show was simply unheard of.
“So who is the beta?” The handsome, long-haired man asked the director.
The director smiled and did not answer directly. “As for who the beta is, you’ll find out soon enough. The next fifteen days are up to you. I hope you all have fun and find your special someone during this time.”
After speaking, the director left the villa with a smile on his face and a brisk step. He could already feel the heat coming his way, and that meant money!
Once the director left, everyone looked around at each other, because none of them seemed like ordinary betas. However, with the director’s teasing, now everyone looked like they could be a beta.
Shen Chiyuan blinked, surprised that they hadn’t figured out that he was the beta.
While Shen Chiyuan was observing the others, he didn’t notice that Mu Songmian was also observing him.
It felt like playing a game of Werewolf, needing to find the werewolf among a crowd of villagers. The only question was whether the werewolf would reveal themselves first.
The living room fell silent. Everyone’s thoughts were different because no one knew if the beta would admit to being a beta.
If they didn’t admit it, would they have to check their identification?
They didn’t want their ugly photos on their IDs exposed, especially the omegas, who certainly didn’t want such a black mark to be revealed.“
Actually…” Shen Chiyuan spoke up, and everyone turned their attention to him.
Shen Chiyuan smiled faintly. “I’m the beta. I thought you all had figured it out already.”
Silence.“
You… are a beta?” The first to speak after a long silence was the handsome man.
Shen Chiyuan nodded seriously. “Yes.”
The man sized him up several times and muttered softly, “I didn’t realize.”
The others didn’t hear the man’s murmur, but Shen Chiyuan did. He smiled at the man but didn’t say anything.
“Now that we’re clear, you can go choose your rooms,” said the man sitting beside, his aura exuding gentleness.
Everyone nodded without objection and got up one by one, taking their luggage to choose their rooms.
The rooms upstairs were for the three omegas, so they went up to choose among themselves. The remaining four people discussed how to pair up and who would share which room.
Shen Chiyuan pulled his suitcase with one hand and gently pushed open the partially closed door, allowing the three people behind him to see the room’s arrangement.
The two rooms downstairs were similarly decorated, with no major differences. Both rooms had panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows. The front windows faced the villa’s yard, while the rear windows faced a wall of rose bushes.
Anyone who preferred more sunlight could choose the front room, while those who preferred more privacy could pick the back room.
Shen Chiyuan placed his suitcase next to his leg, stepped aside, and looked at the three people behind him. “I don’t mind who I share with, or which room I get.”
Mu Songmian looked at the two rooms and was about to speak when the two people next to him pointed to the same room.
“This one.” “I like this room.”
They spoke in unison, each pointing to the same room—the one facing the rose wall.
They immediately turned to look at each other, as if they hadn’t expected anyone else to choose the same room.
Mu Songmian placed his suitcase in front of the room facing outward and calmly said, “Then you two can share one room, and Shen Chiyuan and I will take the other.”
Shen Chiyuan nodded. He didn’t mind who he shared with. After all, sharing a room with Mu Songmian would probably be more comfortable. He seemed calm and gentle.
With the room assignments settled, everyone took their luggage and went to organize their beds.
Shen Chiyuan entered his room, looked at the two single beds placed on opposite sides, and turned to Mu Songmian, who was still standing in the doorway, and asked, “Do you want to sleep on that side?”
Mu Songmian tilted his head slightly, casting a glance at the two beds, and said, “You choose first. I’m fine with either.”
Shen Chiyuan stared at the two beds for a moment, then pointed to the bed closer to the floor-to-ceiling window and said, “I’ll take the bed by the window.”
Mu Songmian nodded and walked in with his suitcase.
Shen Chiyuan didn’t have the habit of watching others tidy up. After Mu Songmian entered, he squatted down and opened his suitcase, taking out a few things he often used, neatly placing them on the bed.
The program team had also prepared toiletries, but Shen Chiyuan still brought his usual ones, just in case. If he didn’t like the ones provided, he could always switch.
Shen Chiyuan didn’t bring much—just the most basic items, including ordinary shirts, short-sleeves, and a thin windbreaker for unexpected drops in temperature.
Mu Songmian placed his clothes in the wardrobe one by one, organizing them by color and length. When he turned around, he saw Shen Chiyuan still squatting on the floor. The items on the bed weren’t exactly messy, but they weren’t particularly neat either.
Stay calm, Mu Songmian thought, suppressing the urge to step forward and tidy up.
Luckily, Shen Chiyuan finished quickly. He neatly hung up his clothes in the wardrobe and placed the suitcase on top. Mu Songmian let out a breath of relief.
Looking at the unchanged and still tidy room, Mu Songmian thought to himself that sharing a room with Shen Chiyuan didn’t seem too bad. At least he didn’t seem like the type to casually toss clothes around.
The bed linens were freshly changed by the program team, so the guests didn’t need to prepare them themselves. After a simple tidying up, Shen Chiyuan decided to go out. Since arriving, he hadn’t eaten or drunk anything.
Now he was both hungry and thirsty, hoping that the program team had prepared food and drinks in the fridge.
As soon as he turned around, he saw Mu Songmian standing in the doorway, looking at him. Shen Chiyuan was a bit puzzled, “What’s up?”
Mu Songmian smiled, “All packed? Let’s go out together.”
Shen Chiyuan nodded, “Alright.”
—
The two were the first to come out. The living room looked exactly the same as when they had entered—there was no change at all.
Shen Chiyuan’s gaze landed on the kitchen to the right. After hesitating for a moment, he turned to look at Mu Songmian, who was sitting on the sofa, and asked, “Want some water?”
Mu Songmian lifted his head to look at Shen Chiyuan. Slowly, he got up from the sofa and said, “Let’s go.”
Shen Chiyuan blinked. “Huh?”
Mu Songmian replied, “Didn’t you say you’re going to the kitchen to get it? Let’s go together.”
“Oh.” Shen Chiyuan nodded, surprised. He had thought Mu Songmian would simply ask him to bring a glass of water back, not that he’d come along.
The two headed to the kitchen together. Opening the large refrigerator, they found it fully stocked. The top two shelves were packed with a variety of drinks and milk, while the lower two held an assortment of neatly arranged ingredients—though not much, just enough for the seven of them to last two or three meals.
The freezer section at the bottom was completely empty, barren without a single item.
Shen Chiyuan hesitated between grabbing a drink or bottled water but eventually took out two bottles of water, handing one to Mu Songmian.
Mu Songmian accepted the bottle with a smile. “Thanks.”
Shen Chiyuan unscrewed his bottle and took a sip, letting out a satisfied sigh.
Mu Songmian also unscrewed his bottle, casually took a sip, and then placed it on the countertop. He began to carefully observe the kitchen in detail.
Shen Chiyuan didn’t leave, opting to stay in the kitchen with Mu Songmian. With the program team having prepared ingredients, they didn’t need to worry about today’s meals. However, Shen Chiyuan wondered whether tomorrow’s meals would be delivered by the program team or if they’d have to buy them during their outing.
When the two left the kitchen, they made sure to bring a few bottles of water for the other participants.
While the atmosphere inside the villa was calm and harmonious, the online world was abuzz with activity.

Online, there were both fangirl-like comments swooning over the guests’ appearances and disdainful remarks directed at Betas.
Although society now promotes equality for all, there are still people with outdated mindsets who believe Betas are inherently inferior and incapable of doing anything noteworthy.
