    He misses you.

Cen Wu started feeling feverish in the car, and by the time they got home, his forehead burned hot, his eyelids flushed with a sickly red.

Guansheng was scared. Cen Wu had always been fragile, and she blamed the harsh conditions during his birth in the mountainous region, where the hospital environment had been poor, leaving some hidden illness.

“Where’s Dr. Lu?” Cen Junshan instructed the butler to call for the doctor.

Cen Wu’s mind was hazy, his fever persistent. His entire body ached, his cheeks hot, but his face looked pale, and his hands and feet were icy cold. With help, he was guided to bed.

Dr. Lu, fortunately, was already at the Cen household and quickly came to administer an IV. Guansheng, concerned, gently touched his forehead and held his arm steady, worried he might move during the injection.

Cen Wu’s eyelashes were damp, his body burning yet cold, his head throbbing—but he didn’t sweat.

Guansheng’s concern unsettled him. After all, Cen’s parents weren’t the kind to neglect their real child for a stand-in. Their care had always been based on the belief that Cen Wu was their flesh and blood. However, once the parentage test came out, they had quickly and decisively abandoned him.

As long as She Gui-Lan harbored hatred for him, the Cen family remained at her mercy—easily discarded, like broken tools.

Guansheng, an award-winning actress, was stunning and decisive. Cen Junshan, a seasoned businessman, was steady and shrewd.

Cen Xie, still in his twenties, had already become the CEO, with Cen Junshan gradually transferring control of the family business to him.

She Gui-Lan, the protagonist from the original story, ruthlessly eliminated anyone who dared cross him.

In Huai Jing, the Cen and She families once held equal power, but She Gui-Lan gradually weakened the Cen family’s position. In the world of power, there was no room for sentiment—only betrayal and ruthless actions.

The Cen family didn’t tolerate weaklings.

Only Cen Wu was the exception, deemed unfit.

In his feverish state, Cen Wu quietly clutched the edge of his blanket, covering half his face while leaving his glistening eyes exposed.

    Help me.

    He didn’t want to die.

“What’s wrong, little treasure?” Guansheng leaned in, concerned. “Do you still have a headache?”

Cen Wu struggled to shake his head and whispered, “Mom… go to sleep.”

Unable to leave his side, Guansheng stayed with him. Cen Junshan had important matters to attend to, so she waited until he finished before heading downstairs for a quick meal.

Cen Wu still wanted to resist, but his body felt weak, and he couldn’t bear to let Cen Junshan and Guansheng take care of him. Darkness kept clouding his vision, and he grew more frail, drifting into a deep sleep.

He woke up a few times, each time propped up by Cen Xie, who helped him take some medicine before letting him rest again.

Cen Junshan appeared strict on the surface, but he was far more indulgent toward Cen Wu than Guansheng. He sensed something was off about Cen Wu that night and went to ask Dr. Lu, “Why did he suddenly get a fever?”

Dr. Lu pondered for a moment. “Maybe the little master has been too stressed lately. It seems like exhaustion caused this.”

That reminded Cen Junshan of the recent progress report shared by Cen Wu’s class teacher. Cen Wu’s test scores had improved dramatically.

He touched Cen Wu’s forehead again, considering his complex feelings. He appreciated Cen Wu’s maturity but wasn’t sure if he wanted him to grow up too quickly. Cen Junshan and Guansheng hoped to protect him forever.

Cen Wu didn’t fully wake up until the next afternoon. His fever remained persistent, though slightly better, and he applied a cooling patch to his forehead.

Later, as he came to, he saw a message from Lu Wang asking why he hadn’t gone to school. Cen Wu replied briefly.

Meanwhile, Meng Liangping continued his lecture on stage, while Lu Wang discreetly checked his phone. Thinking he hadn’t been noticed by the teacher, he hesitated before deciding to inform She Gui-Lan.

Quietly covering his mouth, Lu Wang whispered, “She Ge, She Ge, Wu Wu is sick.”

He still believed Cen Wu was involved with She Gui-Lan, and a chilling realization dawned on him—Cen Wu had never denied it, nor had She Gui-Lan.

    Wasn’t that terrifying enough?

She Gui-Lan remained indifferent, his gaze cold as if he hadn’t heard a word.

Lu Wang, meeting She Gui-Lan’s detached expression, said nothing more. He believed there must be a reason for Cen Wu and She Gui-Lan’s situation, and he resolved to protect their bond, if needed, as a loyal brother.

Cen Wu curled up on the couch under a blanket, the cooling patch still on his forehead. His fevered, pale cheeks remained flushed red.

Cen Junshan and Guansheng had intended to head to the company, but they stayed with Cen Wu for most of the day, leaving only when he appeared slightly better. Cen Xie remained at home, while the old butler stayed behind to watch over him.

As Cen Wu moved to fetch a glass of water, the old butler, dressed in his black tails, silently appeared at his side. The butler’s presence was as silent as ever, his gaze fixed on Cen Wu with a mix of duty and formality.

The butler spoke, his voice steady and composed.

“Young master, the old servant is back,” the butler said.

    Cen Wu: “…”

Feeling weak and miserable, Cen Wu couldn’t move much and had to accept being taken care of.

After dinner, he fell asleep and woke up around 11 PM, noticing Lu Wang had sent him another message.

【Lu Wang: Take care of yourself. I’ll be thinking of you. She Ge said he misses you too.】

    Cen Wu: “…”

    Cen Wu: ????

He thought maybe his fever had affected his brain. She Gui-Lan, missing him? That couldn’t be right. She Gui-Lan was probably plotting how to get rid of him.

    【Cen Wu: Observing in silence.jpg】

He sent Lu Wang a threatening emoji.

Lu Wang was usually a quiet, well-behaved kid who wouldn’t lie. After stammering for a bit, he finally confessed.

    【Lu Wang: Can’t I just lie to you?】
【Lu Wang: But She Ge’s been watching your seat. He thought I didn’t notice, but I did.】

She Gui-Lan’s gaze was like a cold blade, sharp and relentless. Even though She Gui-Lan might not mean harm, his dark, fierce eyes seemed to carry an unrelenting pressure. Without Cen Wu, Lu Wang was practically on the verge of tears.

    Cen Wu was stunned.
    No way.
She Gui-Lan really was waiting for him?

How did one approach a cold-blooded, bloodthirsty beast—close enough but not bitten?

Before he could fully process, his phone buzzed again, this time with a message from A Ling.

Cen Wu’s heart tensed. A Ling hadn’t messaged him about his abs lately, so this sudden message felt suspicious. His concern deepened when he saw the content.

【A Ling: Second young master, can you come to Blue Night? I think something’s not right with a few people at the back entrance.】

Cen Wu barely recovered from his fever, his legs felt like jelly, but he forced himself to stand and get dressed. Fortunately, Cen Junshan and Guansheng weren’t home, and Cen Xie didn’t keep as strict a watch, giving him some leeway.

Cen Wu hailed a cab and headed straight to Blue Night. In the cold, dim night, he tried calling She Gui-Lan, but She Gui-Lan kept hanging up without answering. He sent another message.

【I’m coming to find you. Where are you?】
