During the summer break of the KPL season, it was the end of the month.
As the saying goes, “Slack off early in the month, scramble to make up hours at the end.”
Young and energetic, clinging to the motto “If the moon’s still awake, so am I,” team captain and live-streaming pro gamer Qing Yi was valiantly grinding in front of his computer… until his body had enough.
Now, lying in a clinic bed and clutching his waist in pain, he’s face-to-face with Lu Jingcheng, a doctor who looks down at him with cool eyes and a refined expression.
From Lu Jingcheng’s perspective?
A beautiful, fragile patient. Pale, in pain, and clearly pushing through it.
Lu Jingcheng: “Try moving a bit?”
Qing Yi bites his lip, trying to sit up. But the moment he engages his waist muscles, a sharp pain shoots up his spine and across his entire body.
Tears spring to his eyes. Everything turns blurry.
Through the mist in his vision, he sees the doctor—mask covering the lower half of his face, eyes cold, fingers pressing gently at his waist:
“Does it hurt?”
Qing Yi glances at the doctor’s name tag.
Damn. Even his name looks good.
Lu Jingcheng: “Lumbar disc herniation. You’ll need a few days of inpatient therapy.”
Qing Yi puts on a pitiful face, but is secretly thrilled.
—As the most minor case in the whole ward, Qing Yi was up and walking in just two days.
Now, he spends his time hanging around Lu Jingcheng’s office, trying to make his presence known.
Lu Jingcheng: “Do you need something?”
Qing Yi, in full peacock mode: “Just wondering if you’d like to grab dinner with me?”
Lu Jingcheng smiles under his mask: “No thanks.”
From then on, Qing Yi visits the hospital whenever he has a free moment.
After another check-up on his waist, Lu Jingcheng glanced at the still-flirty Qing Yi and asked,
“So, anything else?”
Qing Yi, lounging on the bed with his chin resting on his arm, replied with a grin,
“Actually, are you free after work? I’d like to treat you to dinner.”
Lu Jingcheng raised an eyebrow and smirked. “And what if I say no?”
Without missing a beat, Qing Yi chuckled. “Then I’ll just come back tomorrow.”
For a moment, Lu Jingcheng was silent. Then, with a quiet sigh and the corners of his lips curling under his mask, he muttered,
“You’re such a handful. Let’s go.”
But Qing Yi’s pursuit is a bit too rich-kid style, and Lu Jingcheng assumes he’s just toying around.
Suppressing his fluttering heart, Lu Jingcheng plays it cool:
“We’re adults. A little fun to relieve stress is fine.”
“I’m not here to play.”
Qing Yi grabs Lu Jingcheng’s chin:
“Who the hell told you I’m just fooling around?”
Lu Jingcheng is taller, but lets him hold his face.
Qing Yi’s gaze burns. Lu Jingcheng turns his head away, not daring to look—
exposing his now fully red ears.
Qing Yi grits his teeth, fingers brushing his lips:
“I didn’t make it to the top of the league on talent alone. What got me here was…”
Qing Yi leans in. Just two centimeters from Lu Jingcheng’s lips, he stops.
“…unshakable persistence.”
Later, Qing Yi figures out the trick to handling this stubborn tsundere:
Whatever he says—just take it the opposite way.
If he says “No,” it means “Yes.”
