AS CH 22
by jj.ssasipscoffeeChapter 22
Aside from attending cram school, Xu Wenhao visited Lü Chenyue every day to tutor him and never forgot to ask about his decision regarding the graduation trip.
“I really hope you’ll come,” Xu Wenhao said firmly.
Lü Chenyue still hadn’t given him a clear answer. When the homeroom teacher made the final round of confirmations in class about who was going on the graduation trip, everyone except Lü Chenyue had signed up. The teacher glanced at Lü Chenyue’s seat, but he showed no reaction—just sat quietly, gazing out the window.
When the bell rang for the end of class, and Lü Chenyue wasn’t in the classroom, Xu Wenhao couldn’t hold back anymore. He walked up to Xiao Yuqi.
“I need to talk to you. Not here. Can you come with me?”
Xiao Yuqi was startled by Xu Wenhao’s sudden appearance. Seeing the restrained hostility in his eyes made a cold sweat run down his back. Already timid by nature, Xiao Yuqi didn’t dare hesitate and meekly replied, “Okay…” He got up and followed Xu Wenhao out of the classroom.
They stopped at the stairwell landing. Though confused as to why Xu Wenhao was being so secretive, Xiao Yuqi took a deep breath and finally gathered the courage to ask, “Class rep, what did you want to talk to me about?”
“There’s something I need your help with,” Xu Wenhao said in a somewhat unfriendly tone, not even looking at him.
Xiao Yuqi blinked. “What is it?”
“It’s just…” Xu Wenhao scratched his head and finally clicked his tongue in frustration. “You’re close with Chenyue, right? I want you to talk to him and convince him to join the graduation trip.”
Xiao Yuqi’s eyes widened in shock.
So that’s what this was about. But…
“You want me to talk to Chenyue?” he asked, surprised. “But… couldn’t you just talk to him yourself?”
“I already have, several times. If he’d agreed, I wouldn’t be coming to you now.” It was frustrating that he had to stoop to asking Xiao Yuqi of all people—ugh!
“But… if Chenyue really doesn’t want to go, we can’t force him, right?” Xiao Yuqi couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Weren’t the class rep and Chenyue enemies? Why was Xu Wenhao practically begging him to help now?
“I want him to go. He’s just being stubborn and won’t listen to me,” Xu Wenhao said, then added awkwardly, “You’re the only one in class he’s close to. If anyone can convince him, it’s you.”
“I understand,” Xiao Yuqi nodded, still not entirely sure what Xu Wenhao was trying to achieve, “but… I can’t promise he’ll change his mind.”
“That’s fine.” At least it would be better than him pushing Chenyue himself over and over again. “Oh—and don’t tell him I asked you to do this,” he added quickly, averting his eyes.
Xiao Yuqi replied, “Okay.”
After they finished talking, the two of them returned to the classroom one after the other. Lü Chenyue, watching from his seat, found it strange that Xu Wenhao and Xiao Yuqi had gone out together and returned together.
Since when were they on good terms?
At that moment, the bell rang for the next period.
