Chapter 35

Today, while Xu Wenhao was at tutoring, Lü Chenyue secretly went to the company by himself. He had thought about it for a long time, and in the end, he decided to go see Gao Junting.

The moment he stepped into the company, Lü Chenyue greeted the staff inside and then knocked on the office door before entering.

Gao Junting, seeing Lü Chenyue—who had disappeared for quite a while since the graduation trip—already had a rough idea why he had come. This time, stepping into the office, it was clear it would probably be the last time.

“Sit down. Do you have something you want to say?” Gao Junting got straight to the point.

Lü Chenyue hesitated for a moment, unsure how to start.

“Is it that you want to tell me you’re leaving the company?” Gao Junting immediately said what Lü Chenyue was thinking.

Lü Chenyue lowered his head, tightly grasping and then slowly releasing his pants, before finally lifting his head and speaking: “I’m sorry, Brother Gao. I came today… to submit my resignation…”

“Alright!” Unexpectedly, Gao Junting didn’t get angry; instead, he smiled broadly. “Didn’t I tell you before? If you want to leave, you can tell me anytime—I won’t force you to stay.”

Though he said this, he couldn’t help but feel a bit reluctant in his heart.

Lü Chenyue’s face was full of apology as he looked at Gao Junting. After all, he regarded Gao Junting as a brother, someone who had helped him in so many ways. Gao Junting treated Lü Chenyue like a younger brother as well, so hearing that he wanted to leave, it was hard for him to let go of that bond. Even though he felt some reluctance, he also couldn’t help but feel guilty.

However, Lü Chenyue’s decision was entirely because of Xu Wenhao. After truly meeting him, he learned to slowly let go of the past, to trust everyone around him, and Xu Wenhao had promised that he would always stay by his side.

Gao Junting stood up and walked over to Lü Chenyue. “You were never suited for this kind of place. That’s why I didn’t make you sign that paper. You can leave anytime—no one will stop you.”

“Thank you, Brother Gao…” he said with a light smile.

Seeing the smile on Lü Chenyue’s face, Gao Junting was momentarily taken aback, then smiled as well. “Chenyue, have you noticed that you’ve changed? Don’t you realize you’ve learned to smile?”

Hearing this, Lü Chenyue was stunned as he looked at Gao Junting—had he really smiled just now? How could Gao Junting know?

“Who changed you?” Gao Junting asked. He wanted to meet the person who could make Lü Chenyue finally lower his defenses, step out of the shadow of his past, and smile naturally without pain.

“He… he’s someone very important to me,” Lü Chenyue said shyly.

It seemed Chenyue had finally found someone he wanted to truly cherish.

“If you ever face any difficulties in the future, remember to come find Brother Gao. I’ll definitely help you,” Gao Junting said, firmly supportive.

Lü Chenyue gently shook his head, refusing. “Thank you, Brother Gao, but this time… I want to rely on myself.”

“Really?” Gao Junting raised his eyebrows, unable to believe that Chenyue had finally grown more mature. “Alright, then. You’re always welcome to come back and visit us whenever you have time.” He smiled lightly.

Afterwards, Lü Chenyue stayed to chat with Gao Junting for a while. Some of the older colleagues who had just finished seeing off guests came into the office and joined their conversation.

Unconsciously, time slipped by. When Lü Chenyue realized how late it had gotten, he quickly stood up, preparing to leave.

Lü Chenyue had come to the company behind Xu Wenhao’s back. He needed to hurry home before Xu Wenhao finished his tutoring.

“Leaving already?”

“Of course I can’t let the person I love think I’ve disappeared.”

Everyone in the office cast him ambiguous glances and teasing remarks, making Lü Chenyue blush, unsure how to respond.

“Don’t joke about Chenyue anymore. If you keep it up, he might really find a hole and hide in it,” Gao Junting teased along with them.

So frustrating! These brothers!

Embarrassed, Lü Chenyue quickly said, “Goodbye,” and hurriedly opened the door and dashed out, leaving behind the office filled with cheerful laughter.
