DCH CH 5
by LinnaceThis Doctor Carries You to Victory
Lu Jingcheng never mentioned to his younger sister, Lu Chengjing, that he planned to attend the Cosmic Festival comic convention. So she was utterly disappointed, thinking he wasn’t going.
Lu Chengjing loved showing off her handsome older brother—bringing him to a con would be a major flex. If he went, she might even tag along herself.
Of course, that also meant a high chance of running into Qingyi. Just thinking about Qingyi made her blood pressure spike again.
But Qingyi, completely oblivious, was still arguing with her over the phone.
No way in hell. As a championship-tier top-laner and captain of Team IF, there was no way he’d wear a crop-top cosplay on stage—even if it was his signature hero, Ji Xiaoman.
“This was already settled with the organizers,” Lu Chengjing said, fighting off an aneurysm. “It’s just half an hour on stage. Close your eyes, grit your teeth, and it’ll be over.”
Qingyi cursed before hanging up, then texted her:
«I’m seeing my doctor. Tell the organizers I have a back injury and can’t attend.»
After the call, Qingyi opened WeChat and was greeted by an official game notification:
«Your exclusive signature skin is now available in the shop.»
He blinked, checked the date, and smacked his forehead—today was the release!
Leaving a quick message for Lu Jingcheng, he logged out and started his livestream. The moment he entered, chat exploded with congratulations for his new signature skin.
“Thanks, fam! Today, I’m gifting 50 dynamic signatures!”
It was an unspoken rule in the pro-gaming scene: whenever a player’s signature or exclusive skin dropped, you’d gift it to every fellow pro you knew.
Qingyi, ever the showman, casually topped up two 648 bundles and started distributing:
“First, one for every teammate… then one for the rival teams’ bros…”
«OMG! Captain’s signature is FIRE!»
«No wonder he’s the captain!»
«Captain, I got the signature but not the skin—hook me up!»
His teammates, emboldened by the gifts, pushed their luck in the group chat.
“These greedy little—” Qingyi grumbled on stream but sent the skins anyway, instantly gaining a horde of “adopted sons” in return.
“Oh crap, almost forgot—gotta get one for Dr. Lu,” he muttered, scrolling his friends list. “Maybe a static version for now?”
“Y’all don’t get it—he’s always swamped. Every time I try to make plans, he brushes me off. If I give him the dynamic one now, he’ll probably go MIA for days. Better wait till he asks me for it.”
Chat erupted again:
【Who’s Dr. Lu??】
【Young Master Huo’s lifesaver??】
【Is this the legendary ‘fishing top-laner’? Peak emotional warfare. I stan.】
Qingyi sniffed, his face twitching as he tried (and failed) to suppress a grin: “Gotta treat him a little differently.”
He rubbed his nose, flashing a shy smile at the camera: “I’ll gift it when he asks me.”
“Yeah. That’s the plan.”
【???】
【Why are you SMILING??】
【CAPTAIN QINGYI, WHY ARE YOU BLUSHING?!】
Meanwhile, Lu Jingcheng collapsed onto the break room couch after a grueling morning of clinic duty, utterly drained.
Ding— His phone chimed. Eyes still closed, he fished it out and squinted at the notification:
«Your special follow: IF·Qingyi is now online.»
This guy even games at the hospital??
Logging into the game, he immediately received an in-game mail—a gift from Qingyi.
Lu Jingcheng: ?
Is he trying to buy his way into my heart?
Still, he figured he should thank him properly. Opening WeChat, he saw Qingyi’s earlier message and typed back:
«Don’t overexert yourself. Keep sessions short.»
«Your back isn’t fully healed. Push it too hard, and you’ll only get worse.»
“Fam, Dr. Lu replied! Let’s see what my dear doctor has to say~”
The moment the notification popped up, Qingyi announced it to his stream and opened the chat—only to freeze.
Qingyi: “……”
At first glance, it seemed fine. But the more he reread it, the weirder it felt.
【Breaking news: Captain Qingyi has a weak back.】
【LMAOOOOO.】
【What did Qingyi and Dr. Lu DO? His back’s already wrecked!】
【Ahem. Adults understand~】
【Captain! Show us Dr. Lu! We’re family—don’t be stingy!】
Chat spiraled into chaos, flooding with jokes and teasing.
Qingyi ignored them, typing back:
«Get online! I’m introducing you to my fans.»
Baffled, Lu Jingcheng logged back in and immediately received a party invite—from Qingyi’s official pro-verified account.
The moment he joined, Qingyi’s voice came through: “Dr. Lu, let’s queue up. I’ll carry you.”
“Huh?”
“And… if we win, promise me something?” Qingyi revealed his true agenda.
Lu Jingcheng paused. “You’re a professional player in Diamond rank, asking me to ‘promise something’ if you win?”
“Do you even have shame?”
Qingyi remained shameless. “The season just reset! I haven’t touched this account yet.”
He barreled on: “I’m live right now, Dr. Lu. Show my fans your god-tier support skills!”
Lu Jingcheng sighed. “Or you could tell them you’re just buttering up a casual player.”
【DR. LU?! THAT VOICE?!】
【So this is the man who made Qingyi flirt on stream?!】
【Correction: The man who broke Qingyi’s back!】
【I NEED to see the face that made Captain Qingyi act like this!】
【Mom, I think I accidentally joined a rom-com stream!】
Draft phase. (Choose a hero.)
Eager to impress, Qingyi grabbed the mic and called his main role:
“Can third pick give me top lane? I’m from Team Zero—” He flashed his 119-tier top-lane badge, only for third pick to counter with a *120-tier* badge—one tier higher. Qingyi instantly caved. “Oh. Uh, you take it.”
Muttering, he groaned: “Why is there a 120-tier top-laner in Diamond?…”
Lu Jingcheng couldn’t help but laugh: “So you’re allowed to smurf, but no one else is?”
Qingyi clicked his tongue and tried again, switching tactics: “Look, I’m actually Wen Jing from Team IF. Give me jungle—I’m trash at mid. Fourth pick, what’s your jungle tier?”
Fourth pick didn’t bother arguing. He simply pasted his 78% win rate with Nakoruru: «Smurf.»
Qingyi instantly folded: “You take it, you take it. I’ll cope. I’ll cope so hard. I’m just deadweight anyway.”
But then, fourth pick politely conceded: “Actually, you can have it. I’ll practice another hero.”
Qingyi turned earnest: “No, no, you play. Don’t practice here—I need this win. Let’s collaborate for victory!”
Seizing the chance, Lu Jingcheng teased over team voice (where others couldn’t hear): “Don’t tell me you’re gonna lock in Xishi as a last resort.”
The moment Xishi was mentioned, Qingyi’s scalp prickled. Visions of his herniated disc—courtesy of that one cursed Xishi game—flashed through his mind. He shook his head like a rattle-drum: “Nope. Absolutely not—”
Then it hit him. He switched to party chat: “Wait. How do you know about Xishi? Have you been watching my stream?”
Lu Jingcheng dodged smoothly: “No. Saw it in a fan edit.”
“Ohhh~ So you searched for me~”
“It came up naturally.”
【???】
【Dr. Lu… is this what they call ‘tsundere’?】
【Men. I swear.】
Banter aside, Lu Jingcheng had already claimed the support role to coast. Qingyi, not one to argue, turned his charm on first pick:
“Hey, first pick—how’s your ADC? You sure it’s better than mine? If not, maybe… take one for the team~” He flashed his 105-tier marksman badge.
When first pick ignored him, Qingyi doubled down: “C’mon, don’t ghost me! Look, I’m Qin Mo from Team Win—champion ADC. Just lend me the role? This is my smurf.”
First pick stayed silent until the system auto-locked Ji Xiaoman.
“Uh… sorry. Your badge was too flashy. I screenshotted it for my friends.” First pick finally spoke. “Wanna swap?”
Qingyi lit up—this was his FMVP hero: “Deal. Deal.”
Grateful, he opened team mic: “Thanks, man. Good karma for life.”
Lu Jingcheng scoffed: “Check your dignity.”
“Relax, I’ll carry,” Qingyi bragged, switching back to party chat with a grin. “Man, my ego whiplash is real.”
Chat lost it:
【A pro player’s version of The Chameleon.】
【I had to double-check if this was Qingyi’s stream.】
【Qingyi, you’re a whole comedy special!】
【Fact: Qingyi can impersonate anyone—except himself.】
【Dr. Lu’s probably facepalming so hard rn.】
In-game.
Lu Jingcheng started by supporting bot lane—where Diamond-ranked chaos unfolded instantly.
Welcome to the “Orphan Lane.”
“Don’t underestimate Diamond,” Qingyi said, brawling top. “Here, ‘play safe’ doesn’t exist. You brawl first, farm later.”
“Just stick with me. I’ll carry.”
Lu Jingcheng chuckled: “Wow. You know Diamond meta well.”
“I went on a 13-loss streak before meeting you. Two were on this very Diamond smurf.”
“Wow.” Lu Jingcheng emphasized each word. “So your ‘pro-verified, best top-laner’ account has a 0% win rate this season?”
Qingyi: “……”
Lu Jingcheng twisted the knife: “Don’t worry. I’ll carry you.”
Qingyi: “……”
【HAHAHA! Dr. Lu is gold.】
【The league’s biggest trash-talker, owned! Rival fans are feasting!】
【I SHIP IT. HARD.】
After yet another 2v5 bot-lane disaster, the 120-tier top-laner (forced into ADC) finally snapped. He abandoned lane to steal jungle camps, fully tilting into griefing.
Assessing the situation, Lu Jingcheng left him to rot and rotated top to help Qingyi.
“Oh? Now you remember me?” Qingyi feigned hurt. “Thought you’d abandoned me for that 0-3 trash-talker.”
“F*ck this!” The original top-laner (now stuck as ADC) raged on mic. “If that guy hadn’t stolen my role, I wouldn’t be here! Support, DO YOUR JOB!”
“Fine,” Lu Jingcheng deadpanned, ignoring the rant. “I admit it—that ADC’s garbage. You’re the real carry.”
“Tch. Men.”
The ignored ADC: “……”
Chat: 【Is this the legendary ‘couple’s forcefield’?】
Even Qingyi’s skills couldn’t offset the team’s gap—especially with a tilted ADC soft-inting.
He single-handedly split-pushed, warded, secured kills, and tried to sneak objectives.
“Honestly?” Qingyi muttered. “This is harder than my finals.”
Suddenly, Lu Jingcheng’s voice cut through team chat—calm and clear: “They’re on Storm Dragon. Jungle, contest if you can.”
The jungler, quietly split-pushing, actually obeyed and lurked near the pit.
“Why does he listen to you?” Qingyi grumbled. “Is it the voice? Is it the damn voice?”
“Focus.” Lu Jingcheng healed Qingyi as they rushed toward the pit.
“You ignore me but baby him.”
“……I’ve catered to you all game.”
“You’re disgusted by me.” Qingyi dialed up the drama.
“No.”
“Swear?”
“Stop barking.”
Their bickering continued, Qingyi too engrossed to notice his own grin—blindingly obvious to the stream.
Meanwhile, in another room, Lu Jingcheng had Qingyi’s stream open on his PC. The exhaustion in his eyes had melted into something unbearably soft.
Fans in chat, despite their faux-FFF团[1] protests, flooded the screen with pink hearts.
Truly, like streamer, like audience.
As they reached the pit, Qingyi prepped his ult—ready to flash in—when their jungler leapt prematurely and got instantly deleted.
His only contribution before death was stealing the crucial Storm Dragon.
Qingyi closed his eyes in despair: “That was so reckless… This’ll be a whole-team review session level of blunder.”
Meanwhile, their mage and ADC, who had already been spotted near the pit when the jungler charged in, had no chance to retreat. The ADC just stood there, giving up entirely, while the mage dumped all their skills before dying helplessly.
“Back! Back!“ Qingyi didn’t hesitate to abandon his teammates, spinning around to flee. “Let’s go, bao!” he called to Lu Jingcheng, still hiding in the brush with him.
With three allies dead, only the two of them stood at their high ground turret, facing the enemy’s full squad of five.
Qingyi turned to Lu Jingcheng: “Don’t worry. We can hold.”
“Mm. I believe in you.”
【??? BUSH GEOMETRY[2]???】
【Someone explain why the vibe switched from fluff fic to war-torn ballet[3].】
【Idk but I’m oddly here for it.】
【Fr tho, it’s giving ‘battlefield soulmates’.】
【So… Dr. Lu and Captain Qingyi—who’s top and who’s bottom?】
