    [WorldBestGarry/Sub ADC Sparrow/Choi Kyeol(17)]

They were all HS players. Yoon Chorong hadn’t expected to play with pros when he agreed to a game, but now he realized the gravity of sitting here.

    [SummerCicada: Yo Chorong, hi!]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Hiii]

    [BunnyWunny: Hey hyung, hiii.]

    [winterchild: Hello.]

Thankfully, they weren’t complete strangers. Playing in similar tiers during solo queue meant they often crossed paths. Before his pro debut, he had encountered them, especially Moon Sejun, Seo Jiho, and Lee Youngjun, who were his age. They weren’t close, but they exchanged greetings when passing by at tournaments.

[SummerCicada: Now that I think about it, Chorong’s alt was WinterCarol lol]

[SpringSpringSpring: I remembered later too lol]

    [winterchild: Haha;;;]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: Chorong, remember?]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: That day when cherry blossoms bloomed…]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: We had such a fun time in solo queue]

[SpringSpringSpring: Yongho hyung’s getting weird again.]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: I was Blue Team, you were Red Team that day]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: You handed me a defeat]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: I can’t forget that game…]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: You totally screwed me, Chorong…]

[SummerCicada: Didn’t Yongho hyung report Chorong 13 times then?]

Chorong, setting up bans and picks, flinched. Report? For what?

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: ? What’s that about?]

[SummerCicada: It’s on your YouTube lol. Said he was too good and it pissed you off ‘cause he wasn’t on our team.]

[BunnyWunny: Must’ve really pissed you off to report for that?]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: You remember all that? Are you a stalker?]

    [SpringSpringSpring: I reported hyung too.]

[SpringSpringSpring: For threatening the world’s best top laner, annoying.]

[BearPawGomting: Bet no one hasn’t been reported lol]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: Look at my nickname.]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: You don’t get it?]

Even in solo queue, they were chatty… Are HS players always this talkative…?

    [WorldBestGarry: Yongho hyung]

Then, the youngest, Choi Kyeol, typed. Like magic, the chaotic chat stopped.

[WorldBestGarry: You’ll get sued by HQ for disrupting business.]

    [BearPawGomting: lololol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: lololololol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: What’s he saying lololol]

[BearPawGomting: First chat in 3,000 years, so curious lololol]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: I’d ignore anyone else saying that]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: But Garry saying it is freaking creepy]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: Chilling]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Dagger to the heart]

    [BearPawGomting: Bichon to the heart]

    [BearPawGomting: Oh what]

    [BearPawGomting: Sejun’s stealing my lines]

Even during ban/pick, the chat kept going as they selected their champions.

    [BearPawGomting: Our support’s acting weird…]

[SummerCicada: What? Scared I’ll outplay you?]

[BearPawGomting: Give me back my Juwon…]

    [BunnyWunny: lolol Finally free lolol]

[BunnyWunny: Escaped the old folks’ home]

    [BunnyWunny: It was tough]

    Old folks’ home… BearPawGomting… We’re the same age…

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: What?]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Shouting for Jeonghyeon hyung]

    [SpringSpringSpring: What’d you say, punk?]

Chorong glanced back. Choi Jeonghyeon was focused on the champion select screen. He seemed used to his team’s chatter, ignoring it. Even Master gets treated like an old man here… Haha… Kind of like it?

    [SummerCicada: lololololol]

    [BearPawGomting: lolololol]

[BearPawGomting: Getting mad out of nowhere lol]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: Talking like that in front of the oldest?]

[SpringSpringSpring: Talking like that in front of Jeonghyeon hyung, the oldest?]

    [BunnyWunny: Oops, sorry sorry.]

[BunnyWunny: As a support, I only see the ADC]

[BearPawGomting: Why you ignoring me? ㅠ]

    [BunnyWunny: We’re in a slump]

    [SummerCicada: lolol Look at Juwon]

[SummerCicada: Yongho hyung’s nowhere close lol]

    [BunnyWunny: Thank you]

[BunnyWunny: Promising Wunny here. Teehee XD]

Thinking of BunnyWunny, Park Juwon, Chorong smiled slightly. Park Juwon was one of the cuter-looking pro gamers. HS was known for raising the bar on pro gamer looks, and Juwon was popular for his adorable charm, though teammates called him a trio of beagles combined. Seems true… Chorong realized anew.

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: Coach, change my roommate.]

[Jjamong: Find someone who’d share a room with you. I won’t stop them.]

    [SummerCicada: …]

    [WorldBestGarry: …]

    [BearPawGomting: …]

[BunnyWunny: Teehee? Only I’m for Yongho sunbae.]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: You’re all reported]

    [Jjamong: That’s not it.]

[Jjamong: A coach from Yongho’s debut team said]

[Jjamong: They were scared of Yongho]

    [BunnyWunny: ????]

    [SpringSpringSpring: ?????]

[SpringSpringSpring: What’d Yongho hyung do at GX lololol]

    [BearPawGomting: lololololol]

[Jjamong: Said they felt like Yongho would kill them]

    [Jjamong: Scary]

[BearPawGomting: lolol How much did hyung mess with them lol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Okay, that’s fair]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: lolololol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: lolololol]

    [BunnyWunny: Who’s scared of me?]

[BunnyWunny: No scary hyungs here, right?]

    [SpringSpringSpring: You’re cute]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Freaking adorable]

[SpringSpringSpring: No way you compare to world-best Yongho hyung.]

[BunnyWunny: Stomping on a sprouting bud]

    [BunnyWunny: That’s too much]

    [BunnyWunny: Gotta try harder]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: Thanks, Sejun. Saved my rep.]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Taking it as praise…]

The relentless chat stopped when the loading screen appeared. Distracted by the banter, Chorong belatedly checked the enemy and allied champions. His Red Team was strong in late-game team fights, while Choi Jeonghyeon’s Blue Team excelled in early laning. As the game loaded, team chat replaced all chat.

    [BunnyWunny: Top’s gonna be tough]

[SpringSpringSpring: It’s fine, hold on and I’ll win late-game]

[BunnyWunny: Chorong hyung, 2nd level gank?]

[BunnyWunny: Come and we’ll get a kill]

Most junglers gank after hitting level 3 for skills. A level 2 gank was early.

    [winterchild: Got it.]

    [BunnyWunny: ??Formal speech????]

    [BunnyWunny: That’s awkward]

    [winterchild: Uh… Okay.]

[HedgehogPoopSmell: Why’re you bullying our Chorong?!]

[SpringSpringSpring: Right, Team Leader Kang’s a Chorong fan. Juwon, apologize.]

    [BunnyWunny: Oops, sorry sorry]

[BunnyWunny: This flower-like 18-year-old is just trying to survive in a rough world]

[SpringSpringSpring: lolol You crazy guy lolol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: That’s true tho ㅇㅇㅇ]

[SpringSpringSpring: But you and Yongho hyung make it rough lolol]

    [BunnyWunny: Slander. This is slander.]

[SpringSpringSpring: Your room’s like a dungeon.]

[winterchild: Uh… Shouldn’t we focus on the game…?]

    [BunnyWunny: Whoa]

[BunnyWunny: Chorong hyung’s a real Garry lolol]

[SpringSpringSpring: Guess so lol Confucian guy, calm guy]

[BunnyWunny: Bomi hyung, let’s go. Invade.]

BunnyWunny pinged the bush below the right river. The Red Team rushed there like mad.

    [HedgehogPoopSmell: Why not invite me?]

Realizing his mistake, Chorong glanced at Kang Yuju.

[BunnyWunny: Team Leader Kang… Guard mid…]

    [HedgehogPoopSmell: …]

    [BunnyWunny: Our hope]

    [BunnyWunny: Protect mid from Coach.]

[SpringSpringSpring: Try fishing if you can.]

    “Tch.”

Clicking her tongue, Kang Yuju didn’t seem upset. She moved deep into mid, placed a ward, and started moving.

Chorong lingered just below the mid lane. Then, Han Yongho, strolling out like he was on a walk, stopped in front of Chorong’s champion and spammed a heart-filled ping.

[BunnyWunny: Knew Yongho hyung would do that]

[BunnyWunny: Chorong hyung, lure him into range lolol]

Chorong hesitated, then used a big-smile emote. Pleased, Han Yongho stepped closer and started dancing. As the system announced minions spawning in 30 seconds, Han Yongho’s champion gave a thumbs-up.

What am I doing here… Just one game and go. If Yoon Chorong hadn’t moved forward, intending to be great bait, it might’ve worked.

    “Whoa!”

Stepping into range, Blue Team champions burst from a nearby bush. Red Team had four, Blue had five, and Yoon Chorong was in range. Panicking, he tried to retreat, but an enemy grab skill pulled him into their side.

    <Blue Team First Blood!>

    <Master Double Kill!>

In an instant, the kill score appeared: Red 0, Blue 2. They meant to invade but got reversed. Respawning, Chorong bought items and rushed to the jungle, but the monsters were already gone. This game’s done. Lanes and jungle ruined. Despite focusing, their late-game comp couldn’t overcome the early loss. They got played.

Mid-game, they briefly took control, but giving up Yormungand, the late-game boss buff, sealed their fate. Facing [Defeat], Yoon Chorong gripped his mouse tightly.

If we hadn’t gotten invaded early, we could’ve fought late-game… Losing like this… It felt worse because it was his mistake. Then, Choi Jeonghyeon’s voice came.

    “One more game.”

Turning, he saw Choi Jeonghyeon cracking his knuckles.

“My hands are warmed up now.”

    “…”

“Wouldn’t you feel bad leaving after a loss?”

    “…”

Normally, such words wouldn’t faze him… Why am I annoyed…?

“If you want to leave now, that’s fine too.”

    “Just one more game.”

    “…”

[BunnyWunny: We’ll win. Next one, we’ll win.]

    He fully agreed.

I’m winning this time. Winning and going home.

    🎮

    “Wait! Something’s over there!”

― Jaewoo hyung went bot earlier!

“But he’s not there. If he went for Red, he’d have cleared it by now.”

Initially playing without headsets or voice, now both Choi Jeonghyeon and Yoon Chorong wore them. In the voice chat were their teammates Han Yongho, Seo Jiho, and Park Juwon.

Ryu Sunghyun and Kang Yuju left after the lackluster second game. Chorong agreed to one more game, not wanting to leave on a [Defeat], but despite the second game’s win, he was still in HS’s lounge playing. Somehow, Yoon Chorong and Choi Jeonghyeon were on the same team.

This was their third match with the current lineup. The first game, Yoon Chorong and Choi Jeonghyeon’s team won; the second went to the opponents. The score was 1:1. If Blue Team won this, they’d take a 2:1 victory.

The kill score was Blue 14, Red 16, with no gold difference, meaning both teams had core items. Both teams had lost their first-tier Guardian statues defending the map’s chokepoints, but Blue just destroyed Red’s second-tier Guardian.

Levels were even, and objectives were balanced. Blue Team took the Fire Troll and Sea Troll; Red Team secured two Earth Trolls.

The Fire Troll aided team fights, the Earth Troll helped destroy buildings and Yormungand, and the Sea Troll supported health and mana management.

Both were decent, but the Earth Troll was better for late-game map control.

In this situation, Han Yongho’s champion roamed the side lane, clearing enemy minions. Yoon Chorong pinged a retreat.

“Don’t go further. They’re definitely hiding there.”

    ― I’ll back, whoa! They’re here! I’m screwed! I’m dead!

At Han Yongho’s words, Yoon Chorong checked the map and saw two Red Team champions rushing toward Han Yongho. If Han Yongho got picked off here, it would jeopardize their chances of winning the upcoming team fight. The game might even end in a [Defeat].

    “I’m going!”

― Okay! I’ll hold on, I can hold on!

While being focused by two enemy champions, Han Yongho dodged with precise movements. He hid in a dark bush and popped out, stalling until Yoon Chorong arrived.

    “I’m coming too.”

Master, who had been stalemating in mid, rushed toward top. Arriving first, Chorong landed a crowd control skill on the enemy champions. Taking advantage of their slowed movement from the stun, Han Yongho escaped successfully.

    ― I’ll eat a fruit and join.

    “I’ll fall back a bit!”

Master and Chorong, arriving late, dealt damage together, but more enemy champions approached from behind.

    “Fall back, fall back.”

    ― Just retreat, retreat.

Since the Red Team had just taken Yormungand, there was no reason to fight recklessly. With low health, they returned to base to recover mana and health before rushing to the Giant Troll’s lair.

After a certain time, a Giant Troll spawns instead of attribute trolls. The Giant Troll enhances the effects of regular trolls by 50% for a few minutes and deals fixed damage over three seconds. It was a crucial buff for victory, so both teams clashed near the troll lair.

“This might be the last team fight. Let’s focus.”

Everyone agreed to Choi Jeonghyeon’s words.

    ― My ult’s up.

    ― Mine too.

    “Mine’s up too.”

― But Jaewoo hyung’s crazy good at steals.

― Want to block him, Jeonghyeon hyung?

    “I’ll block.”

Choi Jeonghyeon circled behind the Giant Troll lair’s hill. Yoon Chorong entered the lair first, hitting the Giant Troll and luring it out as far as possible to prevent a steal, then dealt damage. [ThisAreaTrueTopper] and [BunnyWunny] moved to block the Red Team’s approach, throwing basic attacks, while [BearPawGomting] and [winterchild] unleashed heavy damage. The Giant Troll’s health was nearly depleted.

In [WOH], junglers always carry the Sharp Claw spell, nicknamed “Claw.” This spell is used for last-hitting, enabling burst damage to steal objectives like the Giant Troll or Yormungand from enemies.

Sure enough, the enemy jungler, [NumberOne]’s alt [NumberTwooo], dashed forward, attempting a steal. Seeing this, Master leapt into the lair, firing a stun skill. At the same time, Yoon Chorong cast Sharp Claw.

Securing the Giant Troll by a hair, Master and Chorong focused [NumberTwooo], who had been pulled in. Outside, [ThisAreaTrueTopper] and [BearPawGomting] dragged and killed the enemy support.

    “B. Hike cut.”

    ― No scope.

    ― Lokan cut.

After securing the buff, the Blue Team charged at the Red Team. They destroyed the mid-lane Guardian and control wards, with three holding the line and two pushing bot. As they broke the second-tier Guardian and pushed for the third, it happened.

    “Whoa! They’re teleporting behind!”

Red Team champions appeared from behind. With two in front and two behind, it was a perfect setup to get crushed.

    “Come this way, this way!”

At Choi Jeonghyeon’s call, Yoon Chorong moved toward the Red Team’s jungle. Despite getting hit by skills, he dodged as much as possible, and soon Blue Team champions joined swiftly.

― Chorong hyung, I’ll tank for you.

[BunnyWunny] shielded Chorong’s champion to keep him alive. Thanks to that, Chorong survived with a sliver of health, drinking a potion to recover. By then, only [SpringSpringSpring] remained on the Red Team. Though [BearPawGomting] had died, they couldn’t lose a 4:1.

    ― Nice!!!

    ― One left!

    ― Go! Go go go!

The surviving four stormed the Red Team’s castle. They destroyed the Twin Guardians protecting the blue crystal at the core. One side killed the last enemy, [SpringSpringSpring], while the other shattered the crystal.

    Blue Team [Victory!]

    “We wonnn!”

Yoon Chorong shouted, beaming. The [Victory] message had never felt so good. It felt like a real game after so long, his palms sweaty from the effort. Unable to hide his joy at the hard-fought win, Chorong clenched his fists and grinned.

[SpringSpringSpring: Played so hard and lost?]

    [BearPawGomting: Harder than Worlds lol]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Agree lol]

[SpringSpringSpring: But objectively, I won top]

    [SpringSpringSpring: Admit it?]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: Old folks’ home]

[BunnyWunny: Old folks’ home for real?]

    [ThisAreaTrueTopper: ㅗ]

    [BunnyWunny: Teehee]

    [WorldBestGarry: That was fun.]

    [SummerCicada: lololololol]

[SummerCicada: When’s Chorong moving into the dorm?]

[SpringSpringSpring: You coming when we move?]

[SummerCicada: Let’s make a 19-line lolol All the hyungs are done for lolol]

[SummerCicada: It’s a democracy, we’ve got the majority lolol]

[SpringSpringSpring: Chorong, when you going home?]

[SummerCicada: Eat dinner with us lolol]

[ThisAreaTrueTopper: How do we pick roommates?]

[BunnyWunny: Yongho hyung still not giving up lol]

[BearPawGomting: Let’s reassign roommates when we move to the new dorm.]

Staring at the chat, Chorong glanced out the window. It was dark. It was definitely daytime when he arrived, but now it was night. He looked back.

    “…”

When did so many people start watching? Ryu Sunghyun, Kang Yuju, HS office staff, and coaches were observing Choi Jeonghyeon and Yoon Chorong’s game. They were oddly quiet. Swallowing hard in the heavy atmosphere, Chorong jumped when Choi Jeonghyeon’s chair creaked. Turning to Ryu Sunghyun, Choi Jeonghyeon said.

“It’s hard to find a jungler with better synergy.”

    “Yeah. Looks like it.”

Ryu Sunghyun nodded. Leaning on the table, he stood and smiled softly at Chorong.

    “You’re really good.”

“Great vision, good kill angles, and perfect gank timing.”

“Exactly! Athlete Yoon Chorong is amazing!”

    Kang Yuju quickly agreed.

“His game sense is sharp, he doesn’t fall for traps, his skill usage is exceptional, he rarely dies, makes unexpected plays that surprise people, and above all.”

Choi Jeonghyeon, walking toward Ryu Sunghyun, turned to Yoon Chorong.

    “It’s fun playing with him.”

    “…”

“So I want to keep playing with him.”

Somehow, Chorong couldn’t look away from his gaze.

“Jeonghyeon, can you step out for a bit?”

At Ryu Sunghyun’s request, Choi Jeonghyeon nodded and left the lounge. To avoid discomfort from too many people, Ryu Sunghyun sent most of the staff out too.

While the noisy lounge cleared, Kang Yuju brewed a warm tea and offered it to Yoon Chorong. Smiling gently at her warm smile, Chorong felt uneasy in the atmosphere. Sitting beside him, Kang Yuju tried to lighten the mood with casual talk.

    “The game was fun, right?”

    “Yes.”

“Think positively. Our team… really, we make sure players can focus solely on gaming without worrying about anything else.”

    “…”

“We’re working hard to accommodate players’ needs. The coach and staff are all great people.”

    “…”

“A player’s biggest dream is to lift the championship trophy, right? We’re working toward that dream together.”

Yoon Chorong gazed at Kang Yuju, speaking with conviction, and touched his cup, feeling the warmth spread through his palm before asking hesitantly.

    “So, I mean…”

“You don’t have to overthink it.”

Yoon Chorong looked up from his cup. Having finished talking with an HS staff member, Ryu Sunghyun pulled a chair and sat right beside him.

“Just play the game you love with passion.”

    “…”

“Your skill is already recognized since we’re the ones requesting you to join.”

    “Uh…”

“No need to think you don’t fit.”

As if reading his mind, Ryu Sunghyun smiled gently.

“I’ve been watching you closely since your Phoenix days. Team games, they don’t always go as planned, do they?”

    “If I’d done better…”

    “…”

“If I’d been better… maybe things would’ve been different.”

    “…”

“Even if Master had been in my spot… would we still have been in the relegation zone?”

He thought about it every time results were poor. If Master had been in his place, maybe it would’ve been different. With Choi Jeonghyeon’s superstar plays, they might’ve made it to the World Championship. He was the team’s best player, but Chorong didn’t have the ability to hard-carry. It felt like his fault.

    “Athlete Yoon Chorong.”

    “Yes.”

“Jeonghyeon wouldn’t have joined that team to begin with.”

    “…”

“When I first scouted him, he said HS sounded worth joining. Since it’s a team game, his contract condition was that the other players be well-assembled. He said he wouldn’t join if the roster was poorly planned.”

    “…”

“Jeonghyeon’s great. The best. His flashy plays make you wonder where such a monster came from. It’ll be hard to find another like him. A player with that skill and star power is rare. The next few years will be Choi Jeonghyeon’s era.”

    “…”

“But individual skill can dominate domestic leagues, not the world stage.”

    “…”

“Our players are the best. Not just Choi Jeonghyeon. Having the best together leads to better results, and the most important thing in a team game… is team synergy.”

    “…”

“Phoenix ignored that. The essence of a team game.”

    “…”

“You fought alone. Your nickname was the ‘family breadwinner,’ right?”

Yoon Chorong bit his lip slightly. Ryu Sunghyun patted his shoulder gently, as if saying he knew how hard it had been, making Chorong’s breath tremble.

“Clean play means knowing exactly what to do.”

    “…”

“When you debuted, you played aggressively, but you adapted to the team’s style with stable macro play.”

    “…”

“You read team fight angles well and have great cover skills. That shows a deep understanding of team games, not just individual play.”

    “Uh…”

“So here’s my suggestion. How about switching positions?”

Yoon Chorong looked up. Meeting his eyes, Ryu Sunghyun smiled softly.

“You played jungle a lot in solo queue.”

    “You mean switch positions?”

    “Yeah.”

Speechless, eyes wide, Yoon Chorong stared as Ryu Sunghyun leaned closer.

“When I brought Jeonghyeon in, I said something to him. Only to him.”

    “…”

“Trust me and join my team.”

    “…”

“And I’ll make you the world’s best jungler.”

Yoon Chorong could only stare at Ryu Sunghyun’s confident eyes.

    [GrapefruitJuice: Go]

Sighing while propping his chin, he watched the screen. The more he saw, the more he wanted him. The market’s view of Yoon Chorong wasn’t bad. He suffered from a bad team, but his potential was highly rated. Finding a balanced player who excels in laning and team fights wasn’t easy.

Two years ago, during the WKC regular season, Phoenix faced Kumho Gaming. HS’s former coach, Whisper, closely watched Yoon Chorong’s debut gameplay.

    “What a waste…”

Watching the match intently in the waiting room, Whisper muttered, and Ryu Sunghyun joined him to observe.

    “He’s good.”

“Exactly. He’d fit our team’s style too.”

Coach Whisper genuinely regretted missing out on Yoon Chorong.

“Phoenix snagged Chorong well. A two-year contract shows they’re not clueless…”
