Luo Xing thought for a moment. Since Xingzhou already knew about his hearing loss, there was no need to hide it anymore. He simply said,
“Teacher Cheng found out I can’t hear and wanted to remind me to be careful when applying to universities in the future.”

    Huo Xingzhou frowned.
    “How did he find out?”

    “From the health report.”
Luo Xing frowned slightly before smoothing it out, trying to hide the bitterness in his heart with a smile.
“It seems like he overheard someone talking about it at school.”

Huo Xingzhou’s grip on his wrist tightened, his eyes darkening as he scanned the classroom. Was it someone in the class?

    “It probably wasn’t,”
Luo Xing quickly grabbed his hand and whispered,
“When I returned just now, I saw a few girls whispering that not being able to hear isn’t a big deal and doesn’t affect much. They wouldn’t say anything bad.”

Luo Xing had always had an obsession with his hearing. He had hoped to have surgery, but due to various reasons, he missed the best time for treatment. He had since given up hope.
Especially after Huo Xingzhou told him, So what if you can’t hear? It doesn’t change the fact that I like you.

Luo Xing completely let it go.

No matter how others viewed him, he wouldn’t care as long as Huo Xingzhou didn’t mind his imperfection. That was enough.

Huo Xingzhou chuckled softly, then looked back at Luo Xing, who was still explaining anxiously. He reached out, pressing his hand against Luo Xing’s lips.
“You’re so eager to defend others. You’re really not bothered by this anymore?”

Luo Xing was startled, quickly pulling his hand down, blushing as he shook his head. He answered honestly,
“After you said it didn’t matter… I just let it go.”

Huo Xingzhou let out a playful
    “Oh?”

His hand moved to grab Luo Xing’s waist, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Not quite the whole truth. Try again.”

Luo Xing’s eyes widened in shock as he glanced at his classmates. His face flushed even more. He shook his head and refused to answer until Huo Xingzhou pressed harder, forcing him to beg for mercy.
    “I’ll say it! Don’t press…”

    “Not lying?”
Huo Xingzhou pinched his nose, deliberately teasing him.

    “No, no… I won’t lie to you.”

The sudden suffocation made Luo Xing gasp for breath in between his words, his face already red by the time he finished.

    “You said… it doesn’t affect you… liking me…”
Luo Xing’s voice grew softer and softer until it was barely audible. Huo Xingzhou couldn’t read lips, but knowing him, he could guess what Luo Xing had said.

“I finally understand why you’re called Little Sweetie.”
Huo Xingzhou smiled, releasing his nose. He tilted his head slightly and added,
“Because you’re sweet, soft, and cute. Makes me want to—”

    “Huh?”
Luo Xing didn’t catch the last part.

Huo Xingzhou leaned in close, whispering in his ear,
“Makes me want to… devour you.”

Luo Xing’s eyes widened instantly. He subconsciously replayed what Huo Xingzhou said in his mind, and as soon as he realized it, his ears turned bright red. He pushed him, stammering,
    “You, you… shameless!”

Huo Xingzhou looked at his utterly flustered expression, guessing what was running through his head. He pinched Luo Xing’s earlobe, lowering his voice.
“What’s wrong with that? You’ll be mine eventually. Might as well practice early. Later, you can say it back to me… and it better sound nice.”

    “Pervert.”
Luo Xing bit his lip, burying his head as low as possible. His face was flushed red as he tugged on Huo Xingzhou’s hand to free his earlobe.
    “Practice isn’t used like that.”

Now… how was he ever supposed to think of the word practice in the same way again?

“If that’s not how it’s used, then how should it be used?”
Huo Xingzhou’s hand slid down from his earlobe to his neck, gently caressing his nape.
    “Teacher Luo, teach me.”

    “I… I don’t know.”
Luo Xing tried to avoid his touch, shivering as the cool hand brushed against his neck, making his skin tingle uncomfortably.

    “You don’t know?”
Huo Xingzhou suddenly thought of something. He took out his phone, plugged in an earphone, opened an app, and hit play before handing it to Luo Xing.

Luo Xing, full of doubt, took the earphone and put it in his ear. What followed was a soft, sweet voice full of sobbing undertones, murmuring pleas for mercy. The sounds were laced with a strange mixture of pain and pleasure.

Another voice was deep and mature, much lower than Huo Xingzhou’s youthful tone. Each word seemed to strike right at the heart, leaving people weak in the knees. Paired with the sweet and soft voice, it was almost too much to handle…

Luo Xing almost instantly heard his own heartbeat pounding in his chest. Shocked, he tore out the earphones and clutched his chest, trembling as he asked,
    “W-what… what was that?”

Huo Xingzhou turned off his phone and smiled.
“It’s a radio drama voiced by Ye Qiao and his two godfathers. Just some… early preparation.”

Luo Xing blushed and pushed him away, burying his head in embarrassment.
    “I don’t… I won’t learn it! I can’t!”

“My little cutie is so smart. You’ll definitely get it.”

“You still dare to say that!”
Luo Xing glared at him angrily, but his trembling voice only made him sound more endearing. It tickled at Huo Xingzhou’s heart. Huo laughed and said seriously,
“Okay, okay, I won’t say it anymore.”

Luo Xing blinked lightly, but in his mind, he couldn’t help but replay that deep, seductive voice. If it were Huo Xingzhou…

Eventually, news of Huo Xingzhou’s fight in the gym reached Luo Xing’s ears. Surprisingly, the other party hadn’t tattled or caused him any trouble. However, the atmosphere around the school changed. Many students started avoiding Luo Xing—whether it was eye contact or physical distance.

Sensitive to this change, Luo Xing didn’t pay it much mind. But Hu Jiawen was curious and asked around. Finally, he told Luo Xing the whole story.

“Didn’t they say Huo Xingzhou fought for the class president? How did it turn out to be for you?”
Hu Jiawen frowned, feeling that something was off.

Luo Xing and Huo Xingzhou seemed especially close. He had even seen Huo Xingzhou get handsy with Luo Xing a few times, and Luo Xing never avoided him. Not to mention that time during Feng Jia’s birthday celebration at Luo Xing’s house, with the strawberries…

A thought struck Hu Jiawen. His eyes widened in shock, and he quickly took a step back.
    “You two… could it be…?”

Luo Xing noticed the fleeting rejection in his eyes, his brow furrowing slightly. “No.”

Hu Jiawen breathed a sigh of relief. Then he hesitated for a moment before awkwardly scratching his head.
“Don’t be upset, okay? We don’t mind you being hearing-impaired. Also… I might’ve been a little too harsh before. I’m actually not against… you know… gay people anymore.”

Luo Xing nodded lightly, not showing much emotion.
    “I know.”

Hu Jiawen, once friendless, had found a true friend in Luo Xing. Thanks to him, Hu Jiawen had also grown closer to Feng Jia and the others. His old habit of gossiping had mostly vanished.

He liked Luo Xing a lot—good-looking, kind, and smart. If he really was with Huo Xingzhou… well, it didn’t seem so bad.

“But who on earth leaked the news?”
    Hu Jiawen muttered, still puzzled.
“Only teachers and the principal would’ve seen the health report. No student could access it… wait!”

He suddenly shouted so loudly that even Luo Xing, with his impaired hearing, caught it.

    “What is it?”

Hu Jiawen lowered his voice, ensuring Luo Xing was paying attention before continuing.
“That day, when we went for the medical exam, you said you had to use the restroom, so I went in first. When I came back, I saw someone by the window. The moment he noticed me, he bolted. Then you came out. Could it have been him?”

Luo Xing’s eyebrows knitted together. Could it really be that person?

    “Do you know him?”
Luo Xing asked. He wasn’t particularly bothered by others knowing about his hearing impairment. He simply wanted to understand why someone would spread such a thing.

    “Not really,”
    Hu Jiawen shook his head.
“But if I see him again, I’ll definitely recognize him. He was tall, pale, and good-looking…”

Tall and pale… Luo Xing immediately thought of Xue Jian. But it wouldn’t be fair to accuse him just based on that.

Besides, once rumors start, it’s impossible to track down their true source. Even if he confronted Xue Jian, the boy could easily deny it, claiming it was just a coincidence.

Luo Xing sighed, thinking Xue Jian must’ve lost his mind.

Xue Jian was caught between obsession and madness. Unable to escape his fixation on Min Yao and his struggle with Huo Xingzhou’s shadow, he seemed trapped—like a wild beast fighting desperately to break free but restrained by logic.

He wanted control but found himself a puppet, manipulated by his desires for Huo Xingzhou and the need for forgiveness. It was terrifying.

Luo Xing decided it was best to avoid Xue Jian altogether. He glanced at the bathroom window, where a blurry reflection caught his eye. Though he couldn’t hear the sound of water, it seemed to echo in his ears. He suddenly remembered the first time he had showered at Huo Xingzhou’s house, when Huo Xingzhou accidentally drenched him in water. A strange warmth spread through his chest.

The broken dove tree branch that Huo Xingzhou had snapped before had grown back a little, now provocatively reaching towards the bed again. When Huo tried to break it off once more, Luo Xing stopped him.

He didn’t know the flower language of the dove tree. Looking at the blurred reflection in the glass, Luo Xing whispered softly, “Youth knows no sorrow, hesitates to speak, and misses like the wind…”
