Chapter 38: Sister Shuangshuang…

That person stayed close to Xia Ye, walking with him while whispering in his ear, making Xia Ye laugh loudly. The two didn’t separate until they reached the exit. It seemed like the other person’s family had come to pick them up. Xia Ye waved goodbye, and the two hugged once more before the person reluctantly walked off in the other direction.

“I’m trying to impress Dad,” Xia Li shot a look at Han Mingxiu. “Uncle Han is probably trying to impress Sister Shuangshuang…”

Han Mingxiu gasped in shock. “I’m not, I didn’t, don’t say random things.” He glared at the brat in front of him, awkwardly trying to defend himself. “…It’s not like that.” Typical of a mouse trying to deny it after being caught.

Xia Ye watched the uncomfortable exchange between Xia Li and Han Mingxiu, unable to hold back his laughter. “Oh? Who’s this Sister Shuangshuang?” He thought it was some cute little girl, and now Xia Li was jealous over him and Uncle Han fighting for attention.

Xia Li suddenly scrunched his face, sniffing the air before pointing to the right. “She, she’s Sister Shuangshuang. She said she’s Uncle Han’s girlfriend.”

Han Mingxiu walked briskly, as though trying to escape from some demonic creature, pushing the luggage cart with long strides. It wasn’t until they reached the underground parking lot and arrived at the car that he realized Xia Ye and Xia Li had been left far behind, still leisurely strolling toward the parking lot entrance.

He placed Xia Ye’s luggage in the car, then stood at the door, waiting awkwardly for the father and son, who had been reunited after such a long time, to come walking casually.

“Hurry up and get in, the air in the parking lot isn’t great,” Han Mingxiu said gently. He opened the back door. Xia Li immediately climbed into the child safety seat and buckled himself in. Xia Ye glanced at the backseat and noticed that aside from the safety seat, Han Mingxiu had placed Xia Ye’s small carry-on suitcase there, clearly leaving no more room.

“Sorry, but you’ll have to sit in the front seat,” Han Mingxiu said with a gentlemanly smile, though there was nothing apologetic about his expression. Xia Ye rolled his eyes at him and opened the passenger door, sitting down himself.

The car drove for a while, and through the rearview mirror, Xia Ye saw Xia Li still puffed up with anger. Reaching into his backpack, he pulled out a stuffed toy and handed it to Xia Li. “Alright, Xia Li, no one’s going to send you to boarding school, so stop being mad. Xia Ye felt sympathy for the girl. She really was quite foolish—trying to pursue the father of the child, yet openly bullying the kid. Couldn’t she at least pretend?

“I wasn’t interested in her; she came on her own,” Han Mingxiu said helplessly. He explained to Xia Ye, “She’s the daughter of one of our business partners. I really don’t understand what young girls are thinking these days.”

“You don’t need to explain to me,” Xia Ye replied nonchalantly, then teasing Han Mingxiu, “If you don’t understand what girls think, just date a few more and you’ll figure it out.”

“…” Han Mingxiu was left speechless.

Xia Ye turned to Xia Li again. “Xia Li, you can’t act like this! Uncle Han has the right to choose whoever he likes. Maybe she doesn’t match your taste, but you can’t attack him for it. We need to wish him well, okay?”

“Okayyy…” Xia Li dragged out the word, reluctantly rubbing the bear’s belly. After a moment, he added, “But sister Shuangshuang really isn’t nice. Uncle Han, if you choose her, I’ll laugh at you.”“I’m not choosing her!” Han Mingxiu grit his teeth, clearly frustrated.
