BL Ch113
by soapaIn the banquet hall downstairs, the pre-dinner appetizers had been cleared away, replaced by an array of exquisite and lavish main courses.
However, the guests were uneasy, with little appetite for the food. Whispers, both overt and covert, buzzed through the room, all centered on the scene that had just unfolded.
Some remarked that the last time at the Junyue Hotel, trouble followed Yu Duqiu’s appearance, and this time seemed no different. The young master Yu, true to his reputation, was capricious and unapproachable. The poor bodyguard dragged upstairs for a lesson was likely in for a rough time.
Yu Jiangyue, hearing of the commotion, hurried over and asked Jia Jin, “They had a fight? Where are they?”
Jia Jin, unruffled, replied, “The cause isn’t clear. The young master might’ve acted impulsively. No need to worry.”
Zhou Yi and Lou Baoguo stayed silent, but Zhou Yangguo, with a child’s bluntness, piped up, “Brother Yu bullied Brother Bai. I don’t think he should’ve done that…”
Yu Jiangyue, recalling her son’s earlier words, narrowed her meticulously made-up eyes, her expression mirroring the dangerous glint Yu Duqiu often gave off.
Zhou Yi’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly covered his daughter’s mouth. “Kids say silly things, Director Yu, don’t mind her.”
But Yu Jiangyue wasn’t looking at them. Her sharp gaze swept the room, taking in every guest’s expression. “What’s that boy up to now… Wait, with something like this happening, why didn’t Hong-bo step in to mediate?”
Zhou Yi explained, “Hong-bo’s busy in the dining area, probably didn’t notice.”
“Does the dining area need the head butler to serve? Are we short of staff?”
“Well… maybe because of Master Dong’s incident, Hong-bo’s being extra cautious.”
Yu Jiangyue frowned, sensing something off, but the clues were too sparse to piece together. Another thought struck her. “Have any of you seen police here today?”
Jia Jin shook his head. “No, the guest list doesn’t seem to include any police.”
Yu Jiangyue’s expression cleared, as if she’d realized something. She suddenly looked up, her piercing gaze locking onto the nearest surveillance camera.
Lu Qing, watching the monitors, jumped, leaning back sharply. “Holy—! I swear she saw me!”
“She can look all she wants; she’s not hostile.” Ji Lin kept his eyes on a more critical figure—Fei Zheng in the dining area, leisurely eating and drinking, ignoring the frequent glances from Hong Liangzhang.
The spot where Yu Duqiu and Bai Zhao had their public spat wasn’t far from the dining area, noticed by many guests. Logically, Hong Liangzhang, ever attentive to his young master, couldn’t have missed it. Fei Zheng must have warned him not to interfere.
Just then, someone left their seat in the dining area, heading upstairs. Ji Lin caught it immediately. “What’s he up to?”
Lu Qing tilted her head. “Lu Jingyu? Probably going to find Mr. Yu.”
Ji Lin tensed. “Send someone to stop him. Yu might be discussing the plan with Bai Zhao—I don’t want him walking in on them.”
“…” Lu Qing gave her perpetually single captain a pitying look. “Ji-ge, ever consider that when a couple heads to the bedroom, it’s usually not to strategize catching a suspect?”
…
…
…
The sound of rushing water washed away the heat and stickiness. After drying off, Yu Duqiu slipped the earpiece back in and asked hoarsely, “Captain Ji, it’s been an hour and a half. Got the test results yet?”
Almost instantly, Ji Lin’s tirade exploded in his ear. “You’re still alive?! I thought you died in there! The results came back ages ago!”
Lu Qing muttered, “They came in like five minutes ago…”
Ji Lin roared, “Five minutes isn’t short! The banquet downstairs is almost over! Where the hell were you, going AWOL for so long?”
Yu Duqiu reached into his suit pocket, pulling out a key—identical to the one used to unlock earlier, except this one was gold.
The little beast didn’t know he’d bought two sets, one gold, one silver.
“Played with the puppy for a bit, compensating him.” He smiled, tossing the key back into his pocket. “Now, time to play with the guy downstairs.”
