Eun-myeong had clearly explained several times to this man that he wasn’t an Omega. He had said so before coming here, so surely the man must know he’s a Beta. Yet, he was being made to use his body.

“Do you understand what I’m saying?”

Just when Eun-myeong thought he couldn’t fall any lower, the man reminded him of the mud he had momentarily forgotten.

“Yes…”

Eun-myeong nodded in agreement. Suddenly, his wrist was grabbed. The man left the courtyard without looking back. White breath repeatedly condensed and dispersed in the air with each heavy exhale.

“Ah!”

The man roughly shoved Eun-myeong into the passenger seat. As Eun-myeong, who had fallen sideways, tried to prop himself up with his palm against the seat, the man came around the hood with a fierce expression. His eyes were cold beneath his pronounced brow ridge, and his jaw was tightly clenched. As soon as he got into the driver’s seat, the car shot forward. The man’s large chest heaved noticeably.

“Get me a doctor to the hotel room.”

The man gave a brief order with the phone to his ear. Then, he carelessly tossed the phone at Eun-myeong’s feet. The car cut sharply through the night streets. Eun-myeong felt a light. The scenery outside blurred and merged chaotically. He felt like he was wandering through a dream.

In the enclosed space, the windows fogged up. The air in the car pressed tightly around Eun-myeong. Where was this tension coming from…?

After driving for some time, bright lights began to flood his vision. When he closed his eyes tightly and opened them again, they were already in front of the hotel. With a screech, the car stopped in front of an employee. The man got out of the driver’s seat, leaving the key in the ignition. The leather seat he vacated let out a squealing sound. Then the passenger door flew open. The man leaned one hand on top of the car and grabbed Eun-myeong’s elbow. It felt like his bones were being crushed.

“Come here.”

Eun-myeong was helplessly pulled out.

“Welcome…”

Though the employee tried to greet them with a bright smile, the man quickly brushed past.

Eun-myeong couldn’t keep up with him at all. The difference in height was enormous due to the varying lengths of their thigh bones. Eun-myeong limped along, almost running behind to follow him. However, in reality, he was being dragged along helplessly, his limbs flailing like a scarecrow. 

As if everything until now had been child’s play, the man gritted his teeth and applied force to Eun-myeong. The man struck the elevator button with his hammer-like fist. Soon, the golden doors opened on both sides. He threw Eun-myeong into the corner.

“You can do dangerous things?”

People were waiting for them, but they didn’t dare get on, just stood there with their eyes wide with surprise. Eun-myeong watched them in shock. Then a man stepped in front of her and blocked her view.

“Didn’t I warn you not to go around saying shit like that?”

He cupped Eun-myeong’s chin in his hand. Eun-myeong looked up at him, her jaw set tightly. His eyes, unusually moist, took in the man’s face.

“Even if you’re a Beta, there are ways to knead with an Omega.”

The man smiled with his eyes, slow and pleased.

“I’ll fuck you until you’re blue in the face, and then I’ll make you cum all over the place, and then I’ll sell you for a good price.”

Eunmyeong stared up at him in disbelief at the words coming out of his mouth.

After a few moments of being dumbfounded by the unfamiliar words, he heard the ding of the elevator. They had reached the top floor. Eun-myeong’s wrist was yanked forward again.

I rushed down the hallway and soon found myself in front of the hotel room. At the door stood the thug who had been watching me and a man I didn’t recognize. He wore black horn-rimmed glasses, and a white robe, and was thin and lean.

“You needed a doctor.”

I couldn’t make eye contact with the man, but the way he was shaking, it was as if he was looking at me.

“Come in.”

Eun-myeong plopped on the bed. The doctor was sweating profusely. He wiped the sweat off his face as he tied the rubber band around Eun-myeong’s forearm, the man behind him watching him intently.

His skinny wrists cried out in protest as the elastic strained, and soon a sharp needle pierced his skin. Eun-myeong stared at the red liquid being sucked up along the piston. Blood….

The doctor placed the drawn blood on a piece of reagent paper and sprinkled three drops of colour on it: tap, tap, tap. The reagent slowly began to turn purple.

“Sir, the patient’s diagnosis is in.”

He gulped and swallowed. A lump rose and fell in his dry throat.

“He’s a Beta.”

There was a deafening silence. Eun-myeong, already foreseeing his fate, lowered his eyes. The man’s jaw clenched slowly.

“Are you sure?”

It was hard to tell what he was thinking. He looked even more sinister now that she couldn’t see into his eyes. The doctor’s voice trembled, and he had to chew his tongue to keep from shaking.

“Yes, Sir, I’m sure…. His pheromone levels are high for a Beta, but…, yes, he is a Beta.”

He continued to stare at the door, looking like he wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand, but he felt very sorry for Eun-myeong. 

Even I would have wanted to run out of here and escape right now.

“Then, leave.”

The doctor, who was dumbfounded at first, quickly said, “Yes!” and turned his back 90 degrees and ran out of the room. The door slammed shut behind him. The loud noise had passed, and now the two of us were alone in the room. It was strange. The man rolled up his shirt sleeves. He roughly grabbed his cufflinks and ripped them off. He was like an animal, crawling around on all fours, marking his territory.

He approached, his stride slowing to a crawl. He grabbed Eun-myeong’s forearm as if he were yanking a fishing rod. The man ripped the gauze off roughly. A trickle of blood pooled where it hadn’t yet healed.

“That’s fucking bizarre, huh?”

He stuck his tongue out and flicked the wound. When he stirred the area where the blood had been drawn with his tongue, it was unbearably painful.

“…Ah!”

He sucked on the flesh of Eun-myeong’s forearm with his mouth. The strong suction caused a painful sensation. Eun-myeong flinched. Yet, every time his tongue brushed against the wound, a strange sensation arose, and he felt like his mind was slipping away.

“They said that if I had taken pheromone pills since I was a child, it would have manifested….”

That’s what the doctors who examined me in the old chairman’s mansion said. If I’d taken the pills on time, I would have manifested, but I missed the timing and became a Beta with high pheromone levels…

“You know a crab by its shell, you know if it’s a female or a male.”

The man’s hand slid down, down, down, until it touched something grim. He cupped the soft flesh trapped in his jeans.
