“…Just give me a little more time.”
Cha Yeon-woo was as stubborn as steel wire.
“Alright… let’s do that. If it’s hard for you, then I understand.”
Unable to bear the continued use of “Lieutenant” any longer, Seo-joon’s patience finally reached its limit—and he made a decision.
“But still, I can’t help feeling a little hurt, Yeon-woo…”
Leaning forward, Seo-joon buried his face in his hands. His voice came out, low and full of sorrow.
“You can be so flexible with everyone else, but with me, your partner… you’re this stubborn.”
“…Lieutenant?”
As Yeon-woo reached out in alarm, Seo-joon turned away to avoid his grasp, still covering his face with both hands as he muttered quietly.
“To think I’m still just ‘Lieutenant’ to you… That really stings.”
He let out a long sigh. He could practically feel Yeon-woo squirming beside him through the air.
“Lieutenant… I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Please look at me. Lieutenant? Are you… are you crying?”
Even as Yeon-woo tugged on his arm, Seo-joon refused to lift his face. If he moved his hands, Yeon-woo would see his bone-dry eyes and realize there weren’t even any tears.
“If I had known this would happen, I should’ve at least made Captain before meeting you… But no, I had to meet you while I was just a Lieutenant—smack in the middle of all possible ranks. Not high, not low. Just… medium.”
“…”
“I’m not even eating steak medium anymore.”
The seat next to him dipped. Peeking between his fingers, Seo-joon saw that Yeon-woo had gotten down on his knees again. Just as he was considering whether to fake a sob, Yeon-woo opened his mouth.
“Um, Lieutenant… I’m sorry… I wasn’t thinking. Until we change how we call each other, I won’t call the team members that anymore. I understand now why you felt hurt. Honestly… it made me uncomfortable too.”
Seo-joon sighed again, still without saying a word.
“But it’s really not like what you’re thinking. It’s not like I just stopped using ranks for no reason… There was a promise we made.”
A promise? Seo-joon blinked and quietly raised his head to look at Yeon-woo.
“What kind of promise?”
Yeon-woo clamped his mouth shut and turned his head slightly. Oh, great. Now he was making secret pacts with the team behind Seo-joon’s back? Seo-joon wanted to be the generous, mature older partner, but Cha Yeon-woo just wasn’t making it easy.
He stared at Yeon-woo without showing the growing pettiness in his heart, waiting for him to speak.
“It’s nothing, really…”
Apparently aware that what he did was wrong, Yeon-woo couldn’t hold out for long and confessed.
“The SAU team members… they all still call me by my codename.”
But I’m not part of SAU anymore, and I don’t need a codename now… Seo-joon listened quietly as Yeon-woo, half-turned away from him, continued in a resigned voice.
This was the gist: Cheong-oh had pushed for a shift in tone first. He said there was no need to cling to rigid rank titles between them anymore.
Yeon-woo, who had always been uncomfortable with the team calling him by his codename even outside of missions, didn’t miss the chance. Since he was no longer part of SAU, he made an agreement with them: they could stop using the codename if they called him by name instead. Everyone had fully agreed.
“When they call me that in public, people stare. Even random Center staff who’ve never met me call me ‘baby.’ Jeong-woo’s the baby, not me. He hates being called that now that he’s ten. So how do you think I feel? I’m twenty-one.”
Still sounding more than a little wronged, Yeon-woo, once his mouth opened, poured out all his pent-up frustrations.
“And I mean… I’m in a proper relationship with you, but every time someone calls me that in front of you, it’s honestly kind of embarrassing…”
Seo-joon slowly nodded. He put on a sympathetic face, like he was saying, I see, so that’s how it is… and then added,
“…I should’ve done it first.”
Yeon-woo blinked, confused, and looked at Seo-joon. Staring at that fresh, earnest face, Seo-joon thought to himself: Cha Yeon-woo has no idea—none—how unfair this all feels to me.
Seo-joon had never once, outside of field comms, called Cha Yeon-woo “baby.” Sure, inside, he adored him like a toddling puppy, but he had never treated him like an actual child.
As his partner, he’d always shown him respect—always used honorifics. Even before they got together, it had been the same. Maybe it was because of that slip during their first interview, when he’d mentioned Yeon-woo seemed too young to be his dedicated Guide.
He remembered how Yeon-woo had reacted when he said that. Insisting he wasn’t a baby, demanding to be treated like an equal adult—and Seo-joon had honored that.
And now this was his reward.
“So what you’re saying is, if we’re going to address each other like proper lovers, there has to be a fair trade, right?”
Yeon-woo tilted his head, clearly not understanding. Seo-joon looked him in the eyes and smiled.
“Right? Baby.”
Yeon-woo’s eyes widened in shock. Then suddenly, Seo-joon lunged, pushing him down.
Half-falling backward, Yeon-woo barely managed to brace himself on one arm.
“Lieutenant…?”
“Yeah, your Lieutenant’s right here.”
Seo-joon grabbed Yeon-woo’s wrists and pinned them above his head, then yanked up the hem of his t-shirt.
“If baby wants it that bad, then we’ve got no choice. We’ll just have to start over from the beginning.”
“S-st… stop Joking around, Lieutenant!”
“Joking?”
Seo-joon slipped his hand inside Yeon-woo’s training pants and pulled down both his underwear and trousers in one go. Exposed without warning, Yeon-woo let out a short scream and squirmed.
“Since when do juniors and seniors joke around like this, baby?”
Gripping the dry shaft tightly, Seo-joon stroked up and down a few times until fluid began to bead at the tip of the penis. Still holding Yeon-woo’s wrists down, Seo-joon kissed his cheek and rubbed his thumb hard against the slit.
Yeon-woo groaned, his eyes scrunching shut.
“It’s my fault… Just don’t call me that. It’s weird… ngh, it’s weird!”
“What are you talking about, baby?”
Seo-joon smiled and looked into his eyes.
“I told you, I’d always be your Lieutenant.”
A slick sound came from his hand moving in steady, eager strokes.
“As long as you keep calling me Lieutenant, you’ll always be my baby.”
“That’s not fair! I’m not a baby! I won’t— ngh… I won’t do it!”
“Then who raised you, baby? Fed you, tucked you in? Who let you walk around with such a cute little penis?”
Maybe the words had crossed a line. Yeon-woo flushed and thrashed in embarrassment.
“With a baby…! Doing this kind of…! I’m doing this kind of thing with my baby.”
“You’re out of your mind— ngh… You’ll get arrested, Lieutenant…! Stop, I’m really going to get mad—ugh…”
As Yeon-woo writhed to push him off, Seo-joon pinned down his lower half and kept teasing the sensitive tip.
“Ah, ah, Lieutenant, Lieutenant, ngh… it’s too much, ah… gentler…”
The sudden stimulation had Yeon-woo’s eyes brimming red as he bucked his hips uncontrollably.
“Baby, repeat after me. ‘I’ll never call you Lieutenant again.’”
“Never, Lieutenant, ah—Lieutenant, Lieutenant, gentler…!”
“I’ll never call you Lieutenant again.”
“Never… What even is this… seriously…”
“Do you not understand the chain of command, baby?”
“I’m not a baby… I’m not a baby. I was wrong, no—darling, honey, ah, ngh, Lieutenant…”
“You’re not a baby? That’s weird. I’m still a Lieutenant. Why wouldn’t Cha Yeon-woo be a baby?”
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby… Seo-joon whispered it like a madman into his ear until Yeon-woo came—unsatisfied and flushed—after hearing it dozens of times.
Then, out of sheer stubbornness, Yeon-woo pounced on him. Their positions flipped, pants were flung away, legs spread wide—and even then, Seo-joon kept calling for his baby. Not to be outdone, Yeon-woo started calling him Lieutenant again.
“You really like doing this kind of thing with a baby, huh, Lieutenant? You’re out of your mind.”
“Well, baby likes fucking his Lieutenant so much—I’m just trying to go along with it. What’s the big deal?”
The vulgar banter was interrupted only by the sound of skin slapping against skin. When Yeon-woo quipped, “Ever seen a baby this big?” Seo-joon shot back, “Never seen a baby with a dick this big.”
So the immature back-and-forth went on, a senseless war of pride between two people flipping each other over. Seo-joon, who had no interest in babyplay, and Yeon-woo, who hated being treated like a baby—neither of them gained anything from that kind of sex.
