    “Ashler.”

Ashler turned his head into the darkness at the small voice calling him. It was Roster, who had gone to meet the war profiteer. Among the members of Norhox’s entourage, the most surprising person was undoubtedly the war profiteer. Although they had only spent about a year together on the battlefield, everyone was familiar with him as they had crossed the death’s threshold together.

Not only that, but he had also grown into a force that could oppose the King’s Heart, so they were even more pleased to see him. However, he came this time with the role of managing the Regas’. He demanded that the King’s Heart’s Regas be placed next to the emperor’s side immediately. It was a demand that Norhox would clearly make, so it was clear who was controlling it from behind, but he still couldn’t help but frown.

“He confessed first that he had infiltrated the King’s Heart.”

Roster pointed with his eyes towards the direction of the war profiteer’s quarters he had visited.

“He specifically asked me to explain well to Sir Kin to avoid any misunderstandings.”

The whispering voice flowed casually, but underneath it, there was distrust. Roster’s eyes, still looking back, narrowed and stared into the darkness. Ashler followed his gaze and stared into the darkness, then asked softly.

    “What about Sir Kin?”

“He’s still in the unit officer’s tent. He doesn’t say anything yet, but who knows what’s going on inside? If it were me, I would have grabbed my sword and rushed to Norhox right away, but Sir Kin managed to endure it well.”

“I’m more worried about him just enduring it.”

Ashler muttered, prompting Roster to ask what he meant but he only shook his head. Kin was the most loyal subordinate, however, that also made him the most dangerous person. He couldn’t help but worry knowing that some of his loyalty came from his resentment towards the King’s Heart.

With the unit officer injured, Kin whose hatred has reached its peak, could have gone astray. Even more so now, that he knew the emperor who is his only hope might abandon all his goals for Abel.

He wouldn’t act alone, would he?

Ashler’s thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the continuing Roster.

“If His Majesty doesn’t wake up tomorrow, I think things will get a little difficult.”

“What did the war profiteer say?”

“He was talking about just disguising it, asking to be allowed to keep a Regas by the emperor’s side. He said that if he didn’t do his job properly, he would fall out of Truyde’s favor.”

Roster added, frowning as he remembered him.

“But even though he claimed to be undercover, he didn’t have any useful information at all. It’s suspicious no matter how you think about it. Why on earth does Sir Kin believe that person so much? Is it because they came from the same hometown?”

Ashler nodded in agreement with Roster’s thoughts.

“Yes, they are from the same area. Perhaps, that’s why Sir Kin vouched for him to His Majesty from the very beginning, saying he knew him well.”

“Honestly, all he did was spend a year hiding behind Sir Kin’s battalion after being forced to risk his life on the battlefield. I didn’t like him from the start, but I didn’t oppose it either because Sir Kin recommended him.”

Ashler shared the same sentiment. He disapproved of the war profiteer but since it was none other than Sir Kin who recommended him, he didn’t oppose it.

“In any case, if His Majesty doesn’t wake up tomorrow, we might not be able to hide his condition any longer. D*mn it, we’ve struggled for six years just to get this close to the King’s Heart.”

Although Roster’s low curses seemed to be directed at the heavens who created this situation, Ashler scolded him with a solemn expression.

“Watch your words. The victory that led us through those six years of hardship was all thanks to His Majesty.”

    “I know. Just… haah, I’m frustrated, that’s all.”

Roster said he would go to see Sir Kin and disappeared into the darkness. Ashler also turned his body to look in the direction where Roster had disappeared. If he wandered around the emperor’s quarters for no reason, it would only increase Norhox’s misunderstanding.

He knew that he had to pretend that nothing was wrong, however, Ashler’s heart became heavier as he moved further away from the emperor’s quarters. Somehow, he felt like this night would be long.

Hopefully, both of them will wake up soon.

Flinch. A slight movement of the hand moved first in the dim light. Soon after, his eyelashes trembled, and his eyelids slowly lifted. Through them, green eyes still drowsy from sleep became visible. However, as the fully opened eyes widened, it also grew shockingly large as if realizing something.

    Huh? The prince?

“They’re all useless anyway. He has only gathered a bunch of worthless fools with dyed fake blond hair and had no skills. But just in case, go and confirm it for yourself. See if there’s someone worthy in the emperor’s eyes.”

He must probably want to check if the real Regas is among them, not someone who would catch the emperor’s eye.

Erei slowly moved forward, recalling Norhox’s command. Unlike Norhox’s quarters, the Regas’ quarters where he has stayed at were close to the emperor’s quarters.

The Regas were positioned to be near the emperor, but it’s actual purpose was to be far from Norhox’s quarters. That way, if any problems arose, Norhox wouldn’t receive any suspicion. On the other hand, the war profiteer’s quarters were near the Regas’ quarters, as he was responsible for managing them.

It was clear that the one to bear the blame would be the war profiteer. Now, all that was left was to wait for the night to deepen a little more. Before that, Erei had to check the Regas’ one last time according to Norhox’s command and see if everything inside was in order.

However, Erei was passing by the place where the Regas’ were staying. The soldier following behind called out to him in confusion, but Erei didn’t slow down and continued towards a place in the distance. There was no need to check for himself the Regas’ inside the quarters.

After all, those rookies who hadn’t even seen their faces were probably trash just like Norhox had said. Norhox was still worried that the Emperor’s Regas might be among them, however, Erei wasn’t. If there was a Regas that the emperor would fall for, it would surely be someone like him.

    To catch the emperor’s eye…

For that to happen, he had to show himself to the emperor first. So, even when the soldier following behind called out to him, he continued to move forward. He never considered that there would be a rival in front of the emperor’s quarters, which were surrounded by several layers of guards. And that rival is a Regas who was as beautiful as a fairy with perfect blond hair and green eyes.

“Ple, please let me in. I beg you. I need to see His Majesty. Please, let me see him.”

The fairy was pleading to the guards, wearing only a white robe that reached his knees and barefoot. Erei stopped in his tracks and stared at him. He thought that all the Regas who came here were trash, but there was such a little rat hiding.

With a cold smile on his lips, he moved forward.

As soon as he woke up, without even realizing where he was, he immediately went outside.

What happened to the prince? Where is Sir Ashler?

As soon as he realized that the emperor’s quarters were right next to him, Abel immediately grabbed hold of a soldier and started pleading.

“If that’s not possible, please call Sir Ashler. If not, then at least the Battalion Commander.”

“With Sir Ashler, I understand, but the Battalion Commander? What?”

The guard frowned and looked down at him with more suspicious eyes. Abel struggled to calm himself and opened his mouth again.

“My name is Lil. Please just call Sir Ashler. He will know once you mention my name. No, I will only make sure that His Majesty is okay.”

“Lil, I’ve been looking all over for you.”

Suddenly, someone greeted him warmly from the side. Startled, Abel turned his head to see a blond man in lavish clothes. Though the man was unfamiliar, there was no time to question his identity.

    “Did you call for me?”

Nod. Erei repeated the name ‘Lil’, as if he had always known it, after hearing it from Abel’s mouth just a moment ago.

“Yes, Lil. I’ve been looking for you for so long. You shouldn’t be here. I told you that His Majesty is not someone you can meet casually.”

“What? What are you talking about? Ugh.”

Erei suddenly reached out and grabbed Abel’s arm, twisting it slightly as he was speaking. Abel’s face contorted in pain, but Erei only tightened his grip more and smiled.

Up close, Lil’s face was even more breathtakingly beautiful than he had imagined. Perhaps even more beautiful than his own. The thought twisted his insides, however, Erei’s smile only grew wider. However, his eyes narrowed with a wicked gleam.

“Since His Majesty’s Regas disappeared, of course, we have to find him.”

At the word “Regas,” the green eyes widened greatly. That’s right, he must be startled because he has something to hide. Erei, still holding the other’s arm, turned his body.

Norhox was right. Among the trash, there was still someone useful. Of course, Norhox would never know that fact. Because he would soon be dead.

The hand gripping his white arm so tightly that it bruised did not loosen. However, being dragged along suddenly, had no time to feel the pain. He needed to know why this man was pretending to know him and calling him a Regas. However, every question he asked while being dragged was dismissed with “You’ll find out when we get there.”

Fortunately, the place where the other person who was dragging him was not far. In the middle of the emperor’s camp, there was an island-like place that stood out. Even in the darkness, there was a magnificent quarters that could be seen, and only a few people who did not look like the emperor’s soldiers were standing guard.

The guards were sitting a bit away from the quarters, drinking. Abel finally began to grasp the situation. Time had passed while he was unconscious, and someone had come to the emperor’s camp near the capital. He also noticed the appearance of the man holding his arm. He wore makeup and was dressed in embroidered silk clothes, emitting a strong fragrance.

    Suddenly.

Abel planted his feet firmly and stopped right in front of the quarters. Erei, who was about to lift the quarters entrance, turned to him sharply. He was about to ask why he had stopped however, Abel’s question came first.

    “Are you a Regas?”

    “Huh, what?”

What kind of ridiculous question is that?

At first, Erei thought it was absurd but then guessed that the other might not recognize him. After all, he too didn’t know the face of this guy or any other trash in the quarters. Erei turned his body towards the other person without letting go of his arm. He decided to show his last kindness to this useless guy who’s soon about to die.

“Yes, I am a Regas just like you. Surprised to see my face for the first time? But you should have figured it out if you used your brain a little. There is a Regas who followed Lord Norhox here, not one of you trash who were brought in here in a pack like a cargo. And that would be me.”

At the mention of Norhox, Abel’s eyes wavered. Erei interpreted his reaction as a mere surprise and bared his teeth in a grin.

“I am the real Regas of the King’s Heart.”

The voice filled with superiority flowed low, hoping to intimidate the other person even more. However, the vivid green eyes that had been wide for a moment instead calmly settled down. And as if seeing this place for the first time, he slowly looked around and muttered.

    “The King’s Heart.”

Abel’s voice was soft as a whisper but absorbed like a cold breath by those who heard it. Perhaps, because of that, just hearing it sent a chill down Erei’s spine. So much so that It was enough to momentarily loosen his grip on Abel’s arm.

Erei, momentarily entranced, couldn’t speak until Abel’s beautiful face, now devoid of confusion, calmly turned to look at him. It was only when Abel asked another question that he finally regained his senses. It was another absurd question.

“Then why is it you? The emperor’s Regas should be tall and have a more rugged appearance.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

Erei raised his voice in confusion, but Norhox’s soldier who was following them stopped him. “There is no time,” the soldier urged, and Erei tightened his grip on Abel’s arm again.

“After seeing the trash you came with, you still ask that question? Or did you just now realize that I, a real Regas, also have blond hair and green eyes? Did you finally understand why you were chosen as expendables?”

    Expendables?

Abel’s curiosity was soon forgotten as Erei suddenly dragged him inside the quarters. The place was so large that there were enough places for a dozen people to lie down, and it was brightly lit with lanterns placed throughout. As soon as they entered, a pungent smell assaulted their noses, however, the sight before Abel was even more shocking.

There were actually a dozen men lying there. Abel heard the sound of the soldier who had followed them closing the entrance of the quarters. Inside, there were two more people dressed in the same clothes as the soldier, however, Abel’s eyes were only on those lying down.

The men, who looked like they were all dead, had beautiful blond hair. Erei’s laughter mixed with his explanation could be heard right next to Abel, who couldn’t take his eyes off them.

“Surprised? Well, it’s understandable. When you came here, you must have been excited that His Majesty’s taste had finally changed and that there was hope even for trash like you. That’s why you secretly went to see His Majesty alone, harboring the foolish dream of becoming a real Regas.”

His voice became sharp, however, his laughter didn’t disappear. Erei confirmed Abel’s astonishment reflected in his eyes and smiled like he had won.

“But you, you didn’t even receive proper Regas education. Did you really think you were qualified? Haha, surpassing seniors who are much more skilled than you? Listen well, you arrogant brat.”

Erei brought his face close to Abel’s, glaring at him with eyes full of murderous intent as if telling him who was superior.

“You are nothing more than a means to destroy the war profiteer who has taken over Lord Norhox’s position. You can just lie down here quietly and die. Do you understand?”
