    Chapter Index

Early the next morning, Yan Yuzhou, worried about Xiao Mu, gave him a call.

When Xiao Mu picked up, his voice was hoarse, a result of the drinking from the night before.

Hearing Yan Yuzhou’s concern, Xiao Mu chuckled softly over the phone. “President Han rented me an apartment outside. He said that once I debut, staying in the dorms would no longer be convenient.”

Yan Yuzhou teased him, “Doesn’t that make it easier for you and President Han to develop your relationship?”

Xiao Mu let out a self-deprecating laugh. After a brief silence, his voice turned rough, “Zhouzhou, President Han treats me just like any other superior cares for their subordinate, nothing more. And honestly, with someone like him, I wouldn’t be good enough anyway.”

As he spoke, Yan Yuzhou could clearly hear the sadness and despondency in Xiao Mu’s tone. His own mood seemed to sink along with it, and he couldn’t help but think of himself and Shen Ci.

At the end of the day, he and Shen Ci weren’t exactly equals either. He had checked his own bank account—its balance was pitifully clean, not a cent to spare. He’d also looked into his family background: both his parents were gone, leaving him with no one in this world except Yan Yuhe.

After hanging up the phone, Yan Yuzhou sighed repeatedly, silently relieved that Shen Ci didn’t care about social standing. He also felt a strange sense of luck that their pheromone compatibility was so high, allowing him to become Shen Ci’s lover.

Unknowingly, he had already let go of the initial resistance he had felt when he first arrived in this world against same-sex love. He had nearly come to terms with the completely unthinkable notion from his old life: that Shen Ci was his husband.

And, in the world he came from, he had never experienced how exhilarating it could feel to be bitten.

Blushing, he touched the gland on the back of his neck. The area was still marked with deep imprints from Shen Ci’s bites the night before. He went to the bathroom, retrieved the gland care products Shen Ci had previously bought for him, and carefully applied them to the marks.

    Then, the doorbell rang.

When Sister Song came to inform him that Yan Yuhe had arrived, Yan Yuzhou’s mind instantly sobered—and then sank.

He had promised Shen Ci that from now on, Yan Yuhe would never set foot in this house again.

With a sullen expression, Yan Yuzhou stepped out of Shen Ci’s bedroom, frowning in displeasure at the sight of Yan Yuhe’s defiant face.

Previously, he hadn’t paid much attention, but this time Yan Yuzhou noticed that Yan Yuhe was dressed head to toe in designer brands. Even the accessory on his ear, if he wasn’t mistaken, was a recently released luxury piece that cost tens of thousands of yuan.

He couldn’t figure out where this kid was getting so much money.

“What is it?” Yan Yuzhou asked coldly.

“Is Brother Shen Ci not home?” Yan Yuhe ignored Yan Yuzhou and began wandering around the house.

“He’s not here. If you have something to say, say it to me,” Yan Yuzhou replied with a frosty expression, glaring at him in displeasure.

“Brother Shen Ci temporarily marked you, didn’t he?” Yan Yuhe suddenly stopped beside him, staring at the marks on the back of his neck. His gaze was unsettling, flickering with an eerie, indecipherable light.

Yan Yuzhou felt a chill run down his spine under Yan Yuhe’s scrutiny. Instinctively, he took a step to the side, turning to face Yan Yuhe directly while making an effort to shield his neck from view. He gave a curt “Mm” in response.

Yan Yuhe’s expression turned peculiar. Ignoring Yan Yuzhou’s discontent and guarded demeanor, he stepped closer, his eyes brimming with grievance. “Brother, you’ve had Shen Ci all to yourself for so long. Can’t you let me have a chance for once?”

Looking at Yan Yuhe’s face, which looked  as though he were the one who had been wronged, Yan Yuzhou was momentarily speechless. Then, he recalled the day when this brat had selfishly gone into Shen Ci’s room in the middle of a heat, only for Shen Ci to break into a cold sweat and gag uncontrollably in response. Disapproval filled Yan Yuzhou’s face. “This isn’t about ‘letting’ or not ‘letting.’ That’s not how it works.”

Hearing this, Yan Yuhe’s expression briefly twisted into something sinister. His voice remained quiet, but every word seemed to be forced out through clenched teeth. “Then what is it? Pheromones? Just because your compatibility with him is higher than mine, you think that entitles you to this privileged, upper-class life and exclusive rights to Brother Shen?”

Suddenly, he sneered, his gaze full of mockery. “Maybe you’re not the only one around Shen Ci.You should understand, rich men usually have… plenty of partners.”

His words struck a nerve, leaving Yan Yuzhou frustrated and irritated.

“Are you done? If you are, leave this house immediately,” Yan Yuzhou said firmly.

Being told to leave, Yan Yuhe’s expression shifted slightly. However, perhaps realizing it was pointless to linger—especially given Shen Ci’s obvious coldness toward him—he didn’t press further.

“Brother, I forgot to bring an inhibitor today. Can I borrow some of yours? It’s crowded outside, and I’m worried—”

As he spoke, he slung his designer bag over his shoulder, genuinely looking as if he were about to leave.

Yan Yuzhou went back to his bedroom, fetched a bottle of inhibitor, and handed it to him.

Yan Yuhe accepted it, nodded silently, and turned to enter the bathroom.

Yan Yuzhou frowned, puzzled as to why his brother needed to use the bathroom just to spray an inhibitor. Maybe in this world, Omegas treated their glands as a private area, akin to how people in his old world regarded certain body parts.

Yan Yuhe soon emerged, handing the bottle back to Yan Yuzhou. His lips curled into a strange smile. “Though it’s clear Brother Shen really likes you, let me give you a piece of advice. When it comes to inhibitors, make sure you use them when you should.”

With that, he smirked, turned on his heel, and walked out without looking back.

Yan Yuzhou shrugged, recalling Yan Yuhe’s mysterious smile and resentful eyes before he left. For some reason, a chill ran down his spine.

Shaking the inhibitor in his hand, Yan Yuzhou smiled and shook his head. With how often Shen Ci had been biting him lately, this thing was unlikely to see much use at home.

That evening, when Shen Ci returned, he frowned the moment he stepped through the door. His face was dark as stone, and without saying a word, he immediately dragged Yan Yuzhou into the bedroom, pressing him against the door. With an unhappy expression, he questioned sternly,

“That cheap little brother of yours came by again, didn’t he?”

Yan Yuzhou stuck out his tongue and silently griped to himself about how Shen Ci’s sense of smell was sharper than a cute puppy’s. Patiently, he explained, “He didn’t stay long. He left pretty quickly.”

Shen Ci’s expression didn’t improve much. Instead, he leaned closer, his tone laced with malice as he whispered by Yan Yuzhou’s ear, “Were you two scheming together again about how to get something out of me?”

“Not at all! How would I dare covet your fortune?” Yan Yuzhou replied in a sycophantic tone, inwardly lamenting how badly Lin Xiaoguo had set up his character.

“You’re mine, Yan Yuzhou. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you. But as for your brother, I suggest you keep your distance. Have you already forgotten? After you married me, your dear brother made a fuss and transferred all your assets into his name. Don’t let it slip your mind!” Shen Ci reminded him sharply.

Yan Yuzhou was shaken. He had genuinely been unaware of what Shen Ci was describing. So he used to be rich? No wonder Yan Yuhe always wore such expensive outfits.

“Mr. Shen, I won’t. I’m devoted only to you.” Yan Yuzhou raised his hand to his ear in a mock swearing gesture, his eyes sparkling with playful mischief.

He wasn’t afraid of Shen Ci at all. On the contrary, he could sense that while Shen Ci was occasionally stern, he treated him incredibly well.

Hearing his assurance, Shen Ci’s gaze softened, and some of the tension in his eyes eased. He reached out to tap Yan Yuzhou’s nose lightly. “Smart choice.”

Then, leaning in again, Shen Ci spoke slowly and deliberately, his breath brushing against Yan Yuzhou’s sensitive ear.

“If I catch you playing any tricks, I’ll give you a thorough, permanent mark.”
