Chapter Index

When Fan Qidao arrived at Shen Ci’s house, he was unexpectedly greeted by the strong aroma of black tea.

In the ten years he had served as Shen Ci’s personal doctor, this was a first. He instinctively glanced at Shen Ci’s face and noticed that Shen Ci’s eyes weren’t on him but entirely focused on the deeply asleep omega on the bed.

A look of disbelief flashed across Fan Qidao’s face as he walked toward the person on the bed. However, as soon as he reached the bedside, he felt an imposing presence follow closely behind him.

“I’m checking his body. Why are you so close?” Fan Qidao teased Shen Ci, who was also standing by the bed.

Shen Ci’s expression stiffened slightly. Seeing another alpha like Fan Qidao approaching Yan Yuzhou, Shen Ci instinctively took a step forward, a completely subconscious reaction. When he realized what he was doing, his face darkened, and he returned to his original position, sitting back down.

Fan Qidao suddenly felt immense curiosity toward the omega lying unconscious on the bed. An omega who could evoke such a strong protective instinct in a patient who had suffered from omega rejection syndrome for over a decade must be extraordinary.

After examining the young omega, Fan Qidao removed his gloves, took the stethoscope from his ears, and turned to look at the motionless alpha.

“He’s fine, just exhausted. By the way, what exactly did you do to him to knock him out like this?” Fan Qidao risked asking, and as expected, Shen Ci’s face darkened.

After a long pause, Shen Ci coldly replied, “I just bit him once.”

“Hiss~” Fan Qidao intentionally made a sound, “You didn’t hold back with that bite. I just saw the mark; it’s at least this deep.”

As he spoke, Fan Qidao spread his thumb and index finger to show the distance, looking at Shen Ci with an expression that said, “I can’t believe you’re such a beast.”

Shen Ci gave him a cold glance, ignoring his exaggerated remarks, and looked at the bed. After hesitating for a moment, he stiffly asked, “How long will his heat last?”

Fan Qidao shrugged and answered truthfully, “Like other omegas, one to three days. During this time, he’ll be very clingy and have a strong need and dependence on the alpha who temporarily marked him. Moreover, once his body heats up, he’ll need frequent marking by the alpha.”

He then looked at Shen Ci’s face and uncertainly asked, “Frequent marking—are you sure you can handle it?”

Shen Ci didn’t answer, probably unsure himself. After all, as a long-time sufferer of omega rejection syndrome and having been sexually indifferent for so long, he wasn’t used to indulging himself.

Even though the omega’s pheromones smelled incredibly appealing, making him want to inhale more each time. However, precisely because it was so irresistible, he preferred to avoid it.

Recalling the tragic incident he witnessed over a decade ago, where a completely unguarded alpha died at the hands of an omega he trusted deeply, Shen Ci’s expression tightened. The warmth in his body quickly cooled, dispelling inappropriate thoughts, and he repeatedly reminded himself:

    Honey is also poison.

Facing Fan Qidao’s eager face, he regained his usual cold composure, expressionless as he said, “You should give him an inhibitor.”

Fan Qidao shrugged, understanding Shen Ci’s persistent mental block, knowing this issue couldn’t be rushed. Severe conditions aren’t cured overnight.

Moreover, the fact that Shen Ci was willing to mark this omega even once was already a significant improvement.

He glanced sympathetically at the omega on the bed, took a syringe from his medical bag, prepared the dose needed to get through the heat period, and then walked to the bedside. He injected the medicine into Yan Yuzhou’s arm.

After everything was done, Fan Qidao spread his hands towards Shen Ci, who was sitting on the side, “Now, can I give you a check-up?”

Shen Ci reluctantly agreed with a simple “Oh,” as if it had little to do with him. Lazily standing up, he raised an eyebrow at Fan Qidao, gestured with his hand, and said, “Study.”

The study was more like a workspace. The shelves were filled with business-related books, and a black office desk sat there, spotlessly clean.

Fan Qidao wasn’t entering for the first time, but every time he did, he couldn’t help but shiver. Shen Ci really was indifferent; the study’s ambiance was enough to freeze him.

The routine check-up for Shen Ci followed a set procedure. For years, Fan Qidao had been checking him almost every month. Today, without the necessary equipment, he had to rely on questions.

“Lately, have you found the scent of omega pheromones more tolerable?” Fan Qidao asked.

Shen Ci was silent for a moment, raised an eyebrow, and replied, “It depends on the person.”

“Oh?” Fan Qidao seemed to understand, “You mean that omega’s scent is okay?”

Shen Ci didn’t answer directly but instead said, “But others, no.”

Fan Qidao nodded knowingly, understanding that Shen Ci indirectly admitted he liked that omega’s scent.

    This was quite a breakthrough.

“It’s alright, take your time,” Fan Qidao encouraged, jotting something down in his notebook, then seriously asked, “When you bit him, did you feel strong repulsion? Like shivers or nausea?”

“No,” Shen Ci shook his head expressionlessly, then after thinking for a moment, added, “It felt hot.”

Fan Qidao stifled his laughter, finding Shen Ci’s serious response amusing. Feeling mischievous, he leaned forward slightly and boldly asked, “So… did you enjoy it?”

Shen Ci’s mouth twitched slightly at the question. He looked at Fan Qidao with a scrutinizing gaze and after a while, said threateningly, “That’s my omega. Don’t get any ideas.”

“…” Fan Qidao was speechless for a moment, rolling his eyes several times before finally calming his urge to punch and chuckling quietly.

Since Shen Ci said that, it meant he had developed a protective and possessive instinct towards the omega after temporarily marking him. Recalling Shen Ci’s instinctive wariness and protection in the omega’s bedroom earlier, Fan Qidao, as Shen Ci’s doctor, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

    The condition was genuinely improving.

Putting away his notebook and stowing it in his bag, Fan Qidao exhaled a long breath and smiled, “You can come to the hospital for equipment checks later. We’re done for today; I’ll head back.”

Shen Ci nodded, instructing his driver to wait outside the villa to take Fan Qidao home.

At the door, as Fan Qidao changed his shoes, he seemed to remember something and said to Shen Ci, “By the way, in the next few days, he’ll be psychologically and physically vulnerable, needing an alpha’s comfort. Since you’ve already temporarily marked him, be kind and show some care, alright?”

He finished with a teasing smile as Shen Ci’s expression changed slightly.

After a long pause, Shen Ci reluctantly responded with a gruff “Okay” from deep in his throat.
