    Loves Balance
    Chapter Index

Yan Yuzhou looked up and met those furious eyes. A cold, biting question echoed in his ears: “Yan Yuzhou, did you really cheat on me?”

He could feel a wave of heat rising around him, Shen Ci’s blazing Dominant Alpha pheromones scorching his senses, leaving him slightly breathless.

But he met Shen Ci’s gaze bravely, offering a seductive smile and explaining gently, his voice soft and sweet, “Mr. Shen, you misunderstood. That was just an excuse I gave the doctor.”

Seeing a flicker of hesitation in Shen Ci’s eyes, Yan Yuzhou pressed on, his expression utterly calm. “I know Mr. Shen has always denied our relationship, so I wanted to prove my innocence to you.”

“But I couldn’t just tell the doctor that my alpha doesn’t believe the child is his, and that’s why I need a paternity test. If I said that, what would the doctor think of you, Mr. Shen? I couldn’t bear it.”

“So, I’d rather let them think I’m the unfaithful one and shoulder all the blame myself. That way, they won’t misunderstand you, Mr. Shen.”

When he finished, Yan Yuzhou’s eyes reddened slightly, but he still smiled faintly. “Did saying that upset you, Mr. Shen? Do you think I overstepped, or that I said all this just to get your attention? If so, I apologize. I just wanted you to know—I did it willingly.”

He said no more after that, simply gazing at the man before him with clear, innocent eyes. Seeing Shen Ci remain unmoved, his heart ached a little.

Shen Ci had no resistance against a Yan Yuzhou like this. Though his face remained expressionless, his heart had already softened.

An omega who would take the fall just to protect him… an omega whose face looked cunning and flirty, but whose eyes were filled with sorrow… an omega who acted indifferent but was actually devastated inside.

    And this omega—belonged to him.

Even though he claimed he had no feelings for him, when faced with those bold, innocent eyes, for some reason, he just couldn’t bring himself to be cruel.

“Yan Yuzhou, you’re testing how much you mean to me,” Shen Ci said, striking the heart of the matter.

“You’re betting on yourself,” he added, a little angry. “And what if you lose?”

If he lost—was this omega really planning to go and terminate the pregnancy?

To accept every consequence… even divorce?

The very thought sparked an inexplicable fury in Shen Ci’s chest.

He closed the distance, caging the person in front of him and pressing in closer, forcing the question out, “Tell me—what were you planning to do if you lost the bet?”

There seemed to be a flicker of tears in Yan Yuzhou’s eyes. But he stubbornly lifted his head, his gaze unwavering, as if yielding yet never truly yielding. Then, the corners of his lips curved into a soft smile.

“If you remembered how much you used to love me,” he said, “then you’d believe—just like I do—that I could never lose this bet, Mr. Shen.”

Yan Yuzhou was fully brought back home by Shen Ci to be looked after.

Perhaps it was the effect of Yan Yuzhou’s final words that day—after that, Shen Ci surprisingly let everything slide without a fuss. The reckless things said in the consultation room? Shen Ci conveniently chose to forget them all. From that point on, he treated Yan Yuzhou exactly how a pregnant omega ought to be treated: with utmost care and attentiveness.

Noticing that Shen Ci no longer mocked or ridiculed him, Yan Yuzhou’s heart gradually began to warm. Even though Shen Ci still didn’t remember how deeply they had once been in love, his demeanor was just as considerate as it used to be.

Every duty a husband should fulfill, Shen Ci fulfilled—and with remarkable patience.

Feeling emboldened, Yan Yuzhou grew increasingly daring.

“Mr. Shen, I really want to eat grapes… but they’re so cold and such a pain to peel.”

“Grapes are too cooling. You can’t eat them,” Shen Ci replied flatly.

“Mr. Shen, I want to go to an amusement park—ride a roller coaster, go bungee jumping, and visit a haunted house.”

“Too dangerous. Absolutely not,” Shen Ci refused without a second thought.

“Mr. Shen, I want to eat Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs.”

“You’re allergic to seafood. Are you trying to die?” Shen Ci shot him a glance.

After being denied three times in a row, Yan Yuzhou patted his still-flat belly and started muttering under his breath, “If I’d known it’d be like this, I wouldn’t have gotten pregnant. Can’t do this, can’t do that… Mr. Shen, you’re so annoying.”

Mr. Shen, having just been called “annoying” to his face: …Fine. Not going to argue with a pregnant omega in the throes of mood swings.

Then, suddenly, he noticed the omega’s eyes start to gleam mischievously, spinning like little wheels before finally locking onto him. Shen Ci’s brows furrowed.

Sure enough, Yan Yuzhou scooted over with a beaming smile, eyes twinkling sweetly. “Mr. Shen, I want to sunbathe.”

Shen Ci’s eyelid twitched as he glanced out the window—9:30 PM—and shot him a cool look. “Want me to sneak into Hou Yi’s house and steal the sun for you?”

Yan Yuzhou giggled, tilted his head, and stole a kiss from Shen Ci’s cheek. Tugging on the corner of Shen Ci’s shirt, he started to whine playfully. “With you here, why would I ever need Hou Yi?”

In that moment, Shen Ci finally understood—so this whole elaborate act… was just this omega’s sneaky way of asking for his pheromones.

Looking into Yan Yuzhou’s expectant eyes, Shen Ci couldn’t bring himself to refuse. With a quiet sigh, he compromised—releasing a soft wave of his pheromones.

Yan Yuzhou felt it almost instantly. It was like basking in sunlight—lazy, cozy, his whole body wrapped in a gentle warmth.

    So warm.

Yan Yuzhou, gathering his courage, slowly reached out and wrapped his arms around Shen Ci, all the while gauging his reaction under that steady gaze. When he saw that Shen Ci didn’t have the heart to push him away, he buried his small frame into Shen Ci’s chest and took a deep, deep breath.

    “Mr. Shen… you’re so warm.”

Suddenly, Yan Yuzhou felt a sharp pain in his lower abdomen, as if something inside him was thrashing about wildly. The stabbing sensation made his whole body shiver.

Shen Ci immediately noticed the change in him. He quickly helped steady him, scanning him from head to toe before his eyes finally settled on Yan Yuzhou’s belly.

“Does it hurt?” Shen Ci asked, his brow deeply furrowed, his expression grim.

Yan Yuzhou had initially wanted to shake his head. But realizing this might concern the baby, he nodded honestly. “Just now… it felt a little off.”

Right after saying that, another wave of pain hit, draining more color from his face.

Shen Ci didn’t hesitate—he immediately called the hospital and had a doctor dispatched at top speed.

After a thorough check, the conclusion came: the baby had sensed the presence of its alpha father’s pheromones and had gotten excited, kicking around in Yan Yuzhou’s womb.

Fortunately, the reaction was positive. The presence of the alpha father would help the child grow stronger and healthier. However, for the omega carrying the child, it could be rather unpleasant. Every time the baby got excited, it would wriggle and kick around energetically inside the womb, which meant Yan Yuzhou would have to bear the discomfort.

The moment Shen Ci heard this, his face darkened. No matter how much Yan Yuzhou pouted or begged, he flatly refused to release even the tiniest wisp of pheromone again.

Watching this utterly unmoved alpha, Yan Yuzhou—already in the throes of pregnancy hormones—grew even more upset. He flung Shen Ci’s hand aside, locked himself in his room, and refused to come out.

“You won’t even give me a little pheromone… I knew it! You don’t love me at all! Wuwuwu…
